predicament ? we are 11 games in , with a new squad lost one home game to bristol city in a gam,e that could have gone either wqay , and played some really hard games , for this league in our first 11 ,
Its october , we havent even started in the fa cup yet and we all know how we kick on when that comes round

If your really that negative try the tram that stops on middlwood road
go and watch them win their six monthly home game win

You might be right. I'm unsure. But wouldn't you rather we went for it and found out?

Yes but I think he's getting it right tactically in most games. I don't think the team is good enough to bring results home.

I appreciate the argument that we should perhaps be more attack minded earlier in games but given our overall dominance in most of them it shouldn't matter. We have dropped a lot of points by simply not putting our chances away and making that dominance count.

If Clough was getting it so badly wrong I don't think we would have been so dominant despite average performances. Just my opinion of course.

I don't think Rochdale, Crawley, Leyton Orient, Gillingham, etc are hard games, and even though we won three of those we played poorly in each game and could easily have dropped points in them all. The predicament is that we never look like we have enough up front to score enough goals to even think about automatic promotion.

so whats your argument we took 10 points out of 12 v the clubs you list , that above average
we only failed to score at coventry so far and are averaging 2 a game recently

we played well v bristol city and got nowt , thats football we were excellent at preston and only got a point

did you watch england tonight , players on 200 grand a week not putting 10 bob a week players to the sword
Ill say it again , THE AUTOMATIC POSITIONS ARE DECIDED IN APRIL ,

My point is that we are only managing to scrape past some of the worst teams in this league, and against the half decent ones (and some of the not so decent ones) we have lost or dropped points. As for England we all know they are shit.

Based on the 11 games this season do you think we have any chance of automatic promotion, because I certainly don't!

AGAIN HERES THE TABLE A YEAR AGO
http://www.brentford-mad.co.uk/snapshot_tables/2013_2014/12/oct/brentford/index.shtml

as you can see Brentford are 12th , absolutely no chance of automatic theyd been indifferent at best
go on bees sites a year go and theres bees fans saying exactly what you are saying
they were 12 points adrift of 2nd

15 points from 11 games , does that look similar to anything your complaining about

I saw Clough screaming at players to get forward frequently yesterday ,some didn't listen and were taken off ,some did and remained on because we ran out of subs. The players have to take responsibility too ,they are good enough as they keep showing but their application is poor at times. Mcarthy took a lot of stick for misplaced and negative passes in the first half but you could see his utter frustration at the lack of options ,only Flynn was moving. Doyle and Wallace were often running past Baxter and Murphy who decided to stand holding hands most of the first half and Scougall was just bypassed. The lack of a centre forward was so obvious which was a mistake by Clough ,but players must start taking some responsibility too.

remember one promotion season we had not started to clever but got a draw against the odds at home 3-3 I believe it was it changed our season, wed started being creative instead of just competing , thats what happened yesterday
One of my favourite photos, Woody jumping for joy after John Tudor hooked in a last minute equaliser (overhead kick assist by Ted Hemsley) against Bristol City in Sept 1970. We were 3-0 down (Hodgy had a poor game), woody pulled a goal back with 15 mins left the Dearden made it 3-2 and then Tudor's dramatic leveller

a home draw that changed our season , , certain players came to life after being so so ,

can see it repeating itself as the young lads weve took on find their feet

Shrewsbury were just below Brentford and got relegated. Just because it happened to Brentford doesn't mean it will happen to us.

and just because we are 11th doesnt mean we are out of it ,,, in october

if your hyper negative you choose the shrewsbury route
or you can believe it is more than possible to emulate Brentford or even go one better

bristol citys on a good run itll hit some speed bumps

At least we're not Portsmouth who currently sit 12th in League Two.

Pompey are now debt free and majority owned by the fans, give me that over the dark cloak of secrecy and Jim Phipps lying face anyday of the week.

Where's the money Jim?

I'm worried.

"At least we're not Leeds" - can't say that anymore
"At least we're not Wednesday" - can't say that anymore
"At least we're not Leicester" - can't say that anymore
"At least we're not Norwich" - can't say that anymore
"At least we're not Charlton" - can't say that anymore

Only Portsmouth are left! What will people say if and when they pass us?

I suppose we'll have to hope Birmingham or Bolton go down...

If things are that bad why don't you start a consortium and buy the club? Christ... the pessimism on here is astonishing, I know you've got to get your weeks worth of moaning done on here but don't be ridiculous!

Jim Phipps is the opposite of secretive? He openly responds to fans and the medias queries, something KC has never done.

We'll see in January I guess. Clough was responsible for the transfer window. He said he needed a few quality players in and ended up bringing in about 13 new faces! Its not a case of weather money has been spent because it HAS. I just think Clough might have abit lot up the wall

No I was only jesting, nothing wrong with disagreeing, it's why these forums exist. My patience is wearing extremely thin now though, despite my pessimism I thought we would stroll into the playoffs almost by default. Even that seems a long way from where we currently are.

We are miles away.

Or 1 point, 4 places and essentially 20 seconds last Saturday.

Show me where Jim Phipps has actually said something meaningful and not just towed the party line of treating the fanbase like Mushrooms?

The only thing Jim Phipps has done brilliantly is blow smoke up your arse for 12 months, the side has gotten weaker since May by not replacing the players they let go.

Him and Brannigan have a lot to answer for but as long as Phipps sits on the other side of the planet replying to gushing tributes on twitter you're fine with it.

Clough is responsible for giving a list of targets to Mal Brannigan, who then negotiates the deals to bring the players in. You can't seriously tell me that every single player brought in this summer were all Clough's first choice targets.

Bournemouth were another team to start badly, and didn't get going until Eddie Howe came back..and even then had a dodgy spell with 5 straight defeats,3 of which were at home..we went and got a 1-0 in that spell at Dean Court or whatever stupid name it's now called.Remember us beating them 5-3 at the Lane earlier In the season...they looked miles off a promotion outfit.

We lost 1-0 at home to Leyton Orient with 11 men. They when they had a man sent off and lined up on the edge of their box we looked good. I can't believe anyone still thinks we'll get automatic promotion!!

Well if that's the logic we only lost 1-0 at Chesterfield which was the score when Higdon got sent off.

Jesus! Its October, who's to say we won't stroll into the play offs as you say, who's to say we can go up auto and whos to say we could be relegated eh!
I've seen evidence of all three already, but I'll stick my considerably thick neck out and say auto is quite possible on some of yesterdays showing :)

Is this optimism based on seeing us miss so many chances in the last 2 home games due to STILL needing a proven striker ? ;)

I agree with all that, apart from Higdon.

I know I'm in a minority, but I believe if played the right way, he'll score freely in this division.

UTB

With the current squad, the only way we would score freely in this crappy Division is if the opponents were made to play without a keeper ....

We shall see. Like I say, a month ago I'd have agreed. But we seem to be able do it regularly in the final third of a match.

For me, that raises more questions about tactics than it does about ability.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right ..... but our inability to convert the chances we create into goals & wins suggests lack of quality upfront. I would agree though that some of our tactics recently have been strange and some of the team selections hard to justify.

My unpopular prediction is that given a run on the side and the right tactics, Higdon will get plenty. There was fuck all wrong with his goal at Chesterfield, and that would have been the start of a bit of momentum (3 in 3).

True ...... his goal was onside and Doyle's was offside ....... typical of the shit standard of officials in this crappy Division !!
