It would be great to see all these guys on the Kop looking down to the crowd on the pitch cheering them.
Just a thought. Also would not include Ched or Paddy but would include Kyle Walker as he came right through our academy to play for England, and is still a blade.

I'm changing tact on this now in light of jockdodds painting and an epiphany I had this evening.

I do still need some assistance though. I could do with some photos of bramall lane and its backdrop how it looked 125 years ago - industrial chimneys bellowing out black smoke and back to back housing I imagine?

Also photos of 'typical' supporters from ages. the gentlemen in suits and handlebar tashes of the turn of the 1900's, the flat caps and rattles of the 50's/60's, the skinheads and dock martins of the 70's, casuals of the 80's/90's through to the guy tweeting about the match on his iPhone.

If you have anything that may be of interest then either post it here, PM me or send them to [email protected]

So, just one pic of Mary then?

This clip has a great view of the crowd for the first minute as Adrian Chiles describes it from 1902. I doubt the fashion will have changed much from 1889 'til then.

Which corner of the ground is the match footage shot from?

All time favourite player X1 (not necessarily best player either)
Tracey

Carl Bradshaw
Doug Hodgson
Jags
Vass Borbokis

Dane Whitehouse
Mitch Ward
Bob Booker
Jock Bryson

Tony Agana
Jan Aage Fjortoft

Subs (all strikers!)
Brian Deane
Steven Kabba
Peschi
Dean Saunders
and coming on for the last 2 minutes (for match fee purposes) Chieeeeef

Manager:

Howard Kendall with a finger of whisky and a couple of cans.

Bramall Lane with standing Kop and a John Street terrace. Dodgy turnstiles with manned operaters. Crowd being announced as 14 thousand despite ground appearing to be nearly full.

Playing in the lace up kit, no goal celebration music and Dave Kilner RIP doing the pre game announcements.

The fat one moves quite speedy for one of his size.

Can anyone ID any of the other players?
Harry Thickett (running out of the pitch) and Peter Boyle (with the tache gesturing for the ball to be returned) just before Foulke was taking the goal kick. I can see George Hedley (scored the goal in the game) at 1:00 to 1:05, also Walter Bennett (I read that he had weight problems and he looked a bit chubby there) on the right wing. Herbert Chapman was playing in that game, I am not 100 % sure, he might be the fair hair chap in the inside forward position at 1:57

I've always liked that clip and I've wondered if anybody has ever recognised an ancestor in the crowd.
My Uncle Pete (1927-2009) who was a Wendy fan told me a few times that his maternal grandfather (my great grandfather), John Coulbeck (1869-1954), was an Unitedite and was a Lane regular from the 1890s until probably WW2. I have never seen a photo of him (or any of my other 3 great grandfathers) so he probably would have been at the match!

Foulke, Hagen, Shaw, Currie, Deane, Agana, Kelly, Fjortoft, Rees, Jagielka, M.Brown, Kabba, Morgan, Montgomery, S.Quinn, and the man city balloons from the FA cup game

Don't know yet. There's likely to be 4 or 5 iterations on various themes before I get the paints out.

There needs to be a family and an old lady in there to offset the sinister looking characters and I might mix a handful of players into the crowd.

Goodness me, that's a slap on the wrist if ever I saw one. After just 4 posts too.......
It's not meant to be a slap on the wrist man, just represents my opinion that I'd have Kenny on the picture and don't agree with your statements.

Plus on the 4 posts thing, gotta start somewhere....

Here's my fourpennorth...

oJimmy Hagan, Doc Pace, Cec Coldwell, Joe Shaw, Alan Hodgkinson, Tony Currie, Alan Woodward,Len Badger, Eddie Colquhoun, Tony Kenworthy, Paul Stancliffe, Brian Deane, Bob Booker,Keith Edwards, Colin Morris, Chris Morgan, John Harris, Dave Bassett, Neil Warnock

All of the above for me too

Could you get in the fact that we were both a cricket and football club?

Myself I only played for one of the sections.

You only want him in there because you've got one eye on Mary's birthday present!

Good call, Sir. I'd already got a group huddle, band of brothers, arms around each other scenario in mind rather than a squad photo - I may include the old cricket pavilion and one of the newer stands as part of the back drop depending on how it develops.

Taking the St Peppers idea a bit further; have the later players on the kop watching the old time players perform.
Deano, Currie, Jags and Walker could also have their England shirts on?
