Once again we are dragging our heals just when we should be picking up the pace .
The clubs decision to sack Adams without a new man lined up will come back to bite us.

Its at this time that players looking for clubs and visa versa will be doing deals ,the only ones left by the time we get sorted will be the ones no one else wants.

The pigs announced there pre season dates last week and its quite a good quality programme ,clubs dates are filling up already ,we will no doubt do a tour of non leaguers who are not busy ,the fixtures come out in a month and pre season training starts just after ,I cant be doing with all this "theres no rush " bolox ,of course theres a feckin rush!:mad:

It needs to be the right appointment and therefore we should think this one through before making any quick decisions. This next one will literally make or break SUFC for years to come. If we are serious about changing the philosophy at the club and thinking outside of our usual box then there is no need to worry about available players as we shouldn't have similar plans to other clubs anyway.....hopefully a new manager will have his own original ideas regarding recruitment.

No need to panic in IMO. It need not drag on for too long but at the same time there's no rush. If I were making the decision I would be aiming to appoint someone by the start of next week (following a week of interviews and consideration). Nothing much will happen transfer wise until the playoffs are over. A lot of players will be mulling over their options at the moment and they have no obligation to make a quick decision themselves.

len? len? Is that you?

By definition, everybody we ever sign is somebody nobody else wants. you should know that by now.

The season hasn't really even finished yet, there's certainly no need to panic. To interpret a methodical approach to appointing a new manager as 'dragging our heels' is crazy.

If McCabe is to restructure the club over the summer, it will take time and the new manager is vital. Looking back, we found an instant replacement for Robson in Blackwell - who we were twisted in to appointing fully on the strength of his results as caretaker. Though Blackwell did well for us, i'd suggest that his appointment and tenure carried us in a direction were now trying to back away from, mainly in terms of the attitude and style of the team.

There isn't one perfect match out there who we need to hire before we miss the chance, its likely all of the managers we've been linked have the potential to do well, its a process of logically identifying the most appropriate candidate long-term. I'd imagine that generally takes some time.

Given our acquisitions over the last 2 years that's not entirely inaccuarate though is it.

Who are these players weve missed out on? season hasnt even finished yet, players will want too see who's up and who's down before making moves. The club will still be getting calls from agents managerless or not. This decision needs to be made soon, i agree, but we are not falling behind. Wednesday should have preseason sorted by now, their manager has been there a while. If you're wanting a quick fix to satisfy your need for "act now mentality" then so be it. The club is changing dramatically and whoever gets the jobs needs to be the main part of that process, not some fucking yes man who fits the 'he's a blade bill'.

keep the faith, UTB.

Fail to prepair ....prepare to fail................ piss up brewery........
but don't worry Blades we'll find our level....then get better !

Talk about over the top. The season has barely finished (and has actually not for many) and most players and teams will be going on holiday/leave.

There is actually little or no rush. As A SC says, this is a very important appointment and we should take the time to get it right. We should be looking to appoint someone soon (before the end of the month) but there is no time to panic. I will start worrying if we get into June without any manager.

Again as SC says, there is unlikely to be player movement until after the play offs (maybe later as those teams wil be going on hols). Most contracts end at the end of June, so if we are in the market for free transfers (which we undoubtably are) then that is a milestone.

Relax matey. Have a spring break. Get yourself off to the South of France for a week or sumert. Take your lass out. Chill for a couple of weeks and then worry if we have not landed someone by the end of the month .

Come off it Ollie, the great Kevin Blackwell and his hardy band of sympathisers said football management was impossible if you lose in the play-offs because all the deals have been done by then. Don't you trealise that is why we had to suffer the horrors of 2009/10 - which in my opinion led to our demise this term, with his close relation in footballing terms Alehouse applying the finishing touch? We need someone in - now!!! I'm sure, like our Blackie said, there are hundreds of deals been done as we speak. If we wait until June there won't be any players left to sign.

The difference being that we know which division we will be in and we will be selling...

So now you believe Blackwell? I never believed in him

Sorry, I only just got back from my holiday yesterday. I am in talks with the club tomorrow. If I have anything to report to you this site will be the first to know.
A player who is interested in joining has been in touch but there is no rush forming a team at this level so don't panic.

Neyw mate. The disadvantage of the play offs is that it sets you back a few weeks. By this I mean that your hols (and your players hols) is in ealy June and that is when the activity starts. We all know it was just an excuse used by Blackie and Kevin Mac for pooring planning and an over reliance on loans.

There really is no rush. We have another week or so to take our time and make the right choice. We don't want another Alehouse or another Hoofy!!!??

What would you prefer Mic: a) Paul Harte tomorrow or b) Di Matteo/SOD by the end of the month???? :D

I now realise how ill informed some of you are on here, Ive told you all before I mix with some ex pros including ex Blades who know the game inside out and I can 100% confirm that clubs are signing or at the least tapping up players to sign NOW .

Its no good saying the season hasnt finished yet FFS what league are we in I thought the league season finished the other week.

Most managers will have submitted shopping lists to thier boards and boards will have settled thier budgets we meanwhile are in limbo , and hence my statement that we are already falling behind

Remember some early signings in the summer of 2005 set us up for a really good transfer window. Yes, the sooner we get the new man in, the better. Wonder what his first actions will be. Watch lots of dvds? Speak to Harry? I guess Pembo and Smith will have something to tell about our current players. The new man can't be allowed to give every current player a new chance, someone must tell him that many of them aren't good enough, let alone worth the wages we are giving them.

Whats up, we've got Jamie Ward coming back aint we?

Difficult one this because Swollers is right, we are dropping behind but given the "quality" we have previously knee jerked at I would probably rather we waited and saw than got some spong in who didn't know what they were doing. After all, if we fuck it up this time we could really be in the.....................................................oh.

theyve prob got a short list already, but pending on who goes down from the prem on sat,and a few managers will lose there jobs come saturday tea time.managers the likes of houghton,RDM,allardyce ect,may be on the radar for the newly demoted,or newly promoted teams-leaving the scraps for us to pick of the rubbish tip.

I think that were it not for the fact we're in the Youth Cup Final we'd have someone in place by now. McCabe will be concerned about rocking the boat before the match because of risking destabilising Pembo or the players. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear anything until after the 2nd leg.

Patience, McCabe knows what he's doing............

You need to get a new key board, your's is mixing all the letters up!

Whilst we're on the subject of new managers how's your guy doing that you recommended? Norwegian wasn't he?

Especially if the new manager IS Pembo!!!

Trond Sollied? He went back to Belgium to manage Lierse, a rather weird career choice. Lierse were in the relegation zone when he took over, just managed to escape relegation and thanks to their strange league set up, they could end up in Europa League. Don't know if he'd be interested in a third tier club.

Spot on Glandy, I thought your thread was completely valid and on the money. Just shows, some folks are far more easily pleased, must be a "True Blade" thing.

Ive never made a big deal of it just pointed it out when people question where I am getting information from ,the players I know are all pre silly money days and mostly still working lads but still are aware of whats happening and have contacts themselves .That said instead of posting stupid links why not try prooving me wrong in what I say ?:p

It was a harmless joke. I can't really proove you wrong, but I just don't see it that way. Some clubs with a smaller and more sought-after pool of potential recruitments probably are trying to stop themselves from falling behind, but I wouldnt say United are in the same boat. I imagine we'll sign three or four experienced players at L1 level, sell a fair few players and promote youngsters to flesh out the squad. Experienced L1/Championship players are plentiful and won't be in particularily high demand, I think we'd build a much stronger team by selecting carefully rather than signing nomadic thirty-somethings willy nilly.

As for the manager, I get the feeling were relatively close to appointing someone. Nonetheless very few teams are looking for a manager at this point of the season, so its likely we wont miss out on anyone for the meantime. I'd be very dissapointed to see us use this (albiet slight) vantage point to hire someone like Danny Wilson/Peter Reid, though.
