Indeed. Now is the time for the appointment. The FA youth cup final is out of the way and there should be no excuses. It is essential that the new manager is instilled before the end of the week (preferably even earlier).

Now thats thrown me.....looking at houso and soton's posts I dont know whether its time to panic or whether its simply peanut butter jelly time! :D

This is not a time to panic. Of course not. But we need to get moving on this. Last season we went on pre season tour on the 12th of July. I stated then (http://www.s24su.com/showthread.php?19287-tick-tock&highlight=) that we had to build a squad by then and that time was ticking. I got poo poo-ed by Dunc, Houso, Swiss, Wards and crew but it turned out that Blackwell did not do enough before 12th of July. We were left relying on loans and it had disasterous consequences. Anyway, if we go on tour around the same time (a reasonable assumption) then that leaves the new manager around 6 weeks to build a new squad. That is providing we appoint someone this week.

Judging by the fact that we have very few contracted players and the big earners are likely to leave, I would say the new manager has a big job. That is not to say getting to know the club and the players etc. He may be able to use some of the youth, but realistically we are looking at bringing in 10-15 players. I would say that we need to give the new manager as much time as possible. 6-7 weeks is not a massive amount of time and hence I would argue that appointing someone this week is essential.

Yessssssssssssssssssss.

In a crew.

*smug*

I am not sure what planet most people are on sometimes. We are bringing in 10-15 players from outside the club? At present we don't have that amount of 1st team players to ditch to raise that.

Simonsen, Long, Lowton, Maguire, Morgan, Collins, Taylor, Ertl, Williamson, Monty, Doyle, Quinn, Henderson, Cresswell, Henderson, Slew, Harriott, Philliskirk, Boggy, Evans, Yeates, Tonne, McAllister, all played 1st team football last year for us.

There are other development/youth players who can come through like Kennedy, Whitehouse, Lukberg, ironside and alot more

That's 27 players.

If the 'right man' can't get that squad performing even with the likely sales of Monty and Evans and a few more then I will just give this game up.The talent is there for all to see

Trouble is, with players under contract for another 5 weeks, the new manager probably won't know what he's got to spend / replace / buy for a few weeks yet. Of course he'll have a general idea what is needed but I'd hazard a guess we'll need to offload before funds will be released and that won't be known for a while yet. Sooner rather than later yes but it's hardly wrist slitting time just yet :)

Nice one. You can take Simmo, Monty, Willo, Quinn, Hendo, Boggy, Evans and Yeates out of that (as they will be offloaded). Others are simply not good enough: Cresswell and Collins. Taylor, Ertl and Doyle may do a job. Then we have got sick note Morgan and a bunch of kids. Great.

Mark my words. We will need to bring in at least 10 players during this pre season to compete. But no worries sheffielder. You walk around with your red and white tinted specs and opretend we do not have a problem and it will not be a big job for the new coach.

You're probably right about numbers but the simple fact is that no-one knows what we're playing with, least of all the manager and whether he's in this week or next isn't likely to make that much difference.

It's not about having rose tinted glasses on, it's about someone taking them off our hands. If you have found buyers for all of those paying full wages I would be amazed.

It's just not going to happen in my opinion

I would disagree with that. I think its very important we have a new manager by the end of the week. Once the playoffs are out of the way the frenzy will begin. The new man is going to have a massive job not only rebuilding the squad but also picking the current one to pieces.

Even if he has to proceed with pretty much what we've got (unlikely) he will have to lift morale and if he's from outside the club (i.e. not Pembo) he will need to find out all about the club and the players so that he's prepared. Its important the new manager has plenty of time.....he's got a monumental task ahead of him.

Agree with what you're saying in theory, all I'm saying is that he won't know about the squad this week and probably won't be any the wiser next week. Contracts aren't up for another 5 weeks and whilst agents etc will be putting feelers out, it'll be difficult for any new manager to make concrete plans in the next few weeks.

All of those players are Championship standard and will attract interest and probably firm offers (maybe with the exception of Simmo) in my view.

Even IF we cannot shift on these players, we are then left with a bunch of overpaid flops, crocks, average players and kids. Hence the manager has a massive job sorting that lot out.

The new manager will have a MASSIVE job to do and the longer we leave it the more of a mountain to climb it will be. I agree that we should have taken our time to find the right candidate, but it has now been around 2 weeks and the play offs are due to end. With most players coming back from hols, contracts nearing an end etc then we need to appoint someone fast. (For me) it is imperative that we instal, the new boss this week (echoing SC's very good post).

agree the new man needs to be in by the end of this week at the latest
