If Sunjihi and Mike Stephenson are right, Adkins is out at the end of the season,so we are in eessence starting from scratch again.

when did Mike Stephenson say that TB?

Edit: just read back through his tweets and he mentions hearing rumours and that there's no smoke without fire etc

I hope he's got it wrong as I feel we'll be going a further two steps back after already going one step back this season

We may have played well the last few games but that is zero excuse to totally disregard every game before it. After what this club has been through, three games of playing well shouldn't even scratch the surface for encouraging optimism, and if it does then you have an extremely high acceptance level. The majority of the evidence from this season suggests nothing is going to improve any time soon, I'm sorry that's just the reality of the situation.

It's actually pretty grating to see threads like this as it lets those at the club that have subjected the supporters to such disappointment year after year off the hook to a certain extent. It makes it seem as though we're not bothered about finishing outside the play offs in league division three and we'll let 'em off. Which is an insult to all those that have shelled out season after season and are generally and genuinely pissed off with the sheer amount of underachievement we manage every bastard season.
Nobody is disregarding the awful season we've had but you're only as good as your last game. New system, freshened squad. 6th time lucky?

If I remember correctly Sunjihi didn't mention any names when he made that post did he ? It was just assumed he was referring to Adkins by other posters

Very much hope so but nobody can dispute that on the balance of evidence, it doesn't look good.

But he did state that CW (Chris Wilder) was favourite to replace him and then that we would get a DoF too. I don't know what else he was talking about. I'm hoping he was wrong though.

I've been excited for every upcoming season while we've been down here and as always it turned out to be a major disappointment every time. I think we will be better somewhat next season but we still might not even be in the promotion mix so I'm not going to fall for it/get carried away again this time.

We're not even sure if NA is still going to be here after the summer, I hope he is as I don't think changing the manager yet again is the right answer.

McEveley and Flynn are just playing for a new contract in my opinion, they have been solid but I reckon once they've got their new contracts under their belt they'll probably revert to being their inconsistent selves. They're only average players, we need a little more quality in the first team than these two if we want to gain promotion.
I think Danny you can take it as read !! Adkins will be here next season, all the signs point to this I would be amazed if we changed managers again.

I'm excited too but there again, I am a backward simpleton from a remote farming outcrop. Anything has got to be a more exciting prospect than the daily beatings, the constant diet of slurry and offal and my two 15 stone sisters forcing their moustachioed selves on me every other evening so yeah, roll on August. Whoo-whoo..!

Absolutely no excitement for next season whatsoever. This season has been a complete disgrace and I am far too pissed off with the lot of them to get excited for what will no doubt be another embarassing shit stained season of immense pain.

Was it after Sunjihais post?

If Adkins has been told he has to sell Brayford, Adams and Done and replace them with kids or frees then he may well have decided it's a lost cause here and already agreed to some sort of "mutual consent" stitch up.

Yes it was after Sunjihi had posted.
Hoping he's just jumped on the original post, one or two on VIP Blades said the same regarding Adkins.

Would be insane to get rid of Adkins now, Sunjihi hinted we are going down the Director of Football route, time will tell, but I can't recall the lad being wrong before.

Generally speaking, and despite the lower league position, I am more optimistic of our prospects for next season than I was this time last year. I think it's taken longer than it perhaps should have for Adkins to shape the squad and style as he'd have liked, but I think you're starting to see things come together. All we need this summer is:

– sensible recruitment
– moving on the deadwood
– a nice lovely red & white striped home shirt

just to add to your list:

- don't sell our best players (not that they're worth much anyway)

Impossible not to start getting some faint little stirrings in the nether regions about how things are going now.

We're passing tests week by week.
Can we sustain intensity & attacking intent throughout whole games, not just first halves? Tick.
Can we replicate the much improved home form, away from home? Tick.

Not saying all our problems have been miraculously resolved, nor that we don't face some, erm, "interesting" challenges over the summer. But, seriously, we're starting to look like we're heading in the right direction.

Credit to Adkins. Credit to a much maligned group of players.
The challenge is to keep it going now till the end of the season.
Momentum, momentum, momentum, & all that.

I have traditionally been the eternal optimist and been excited every pre season. Sadly Age and Kevin McCabe have turned me into a cynical old barsteward.

I was excited after Nigel Mark 1's first season only to see the spine of an exciting team go up in smoke as loans finished and KM sold the family silver (again).

Sadly after one of the most mediocre seasons I have ever witnessed the limited green shoots have come too late and will not be built upon for next season. The Edgar and Baptiste loans will finish and whilst Edgar may return, Baptiste almost certainly won't.

This is before our Kevin has his annual 2nd week of the season fire sale when one of Brayford, Che or Billy will be on their way.

All of the above is without factoring in another round of managerial musical chairs which means we start again.

I have no hope or optimism that anything will change soon, as Jim Phipps pointed out in January.

favorite with who ? The bookies ? I think he was being a little mischievous . it reminded me of the posts EIGHTEEN89 used to make on Blades Mad. Very vague and didn't really give anything specific just so he.she could say they were right all along

He did once say that the guy representing Ched Evans had never lost a case which was nonsense.

But football related he's been bang on.

Been playing extremely well though, can't be denied

Yep. But absolutely no evidence of anything to give us optimism for next season. This lot are playing for their jobs. Amazing how they have suddenly started to put results together now the day of reckoning is amongst us.

Agreed. Great win. The real work now starts in the close-season.

As soon as I read the story about Baptiste, where a clever get touched his wife's arse in a bar, and he chinned the bloke and knocked him out with one punch, I knew he was the sort of bloke we needed in the back line, no nonsense!, OK we might not be able to sign Baptiste, but someone like him with the same attitude is what is needed for starters.

Every team needs a hard nut (more than one if possible), and he is a good start.

If we can't afford Baptiste, then someone similar please.

Same physicality and mentality in midfield, no nonsense, hard as nails.

Hopefully we are already scouting these types.

Agree Grappier. Although football especially in the premier league is slowly becoming a non contact sport , we do need a couple of players who can mix it , when required , especially at league 1 level of football .

Our problem in the past is that we have been too soft and bullied in games , certain players earn respect just by the opposition looking at them . Baptiste is one of these players , hard but fair .

Hope we can sign him or equal class.

It wasn't Marlon King that he chinned was it? If so even more reason to sign him.

It just goes to show how badly this club is being run when Blades fans are easily content with the possibility of having such low calibre players in McEveley and Flynn remain at the club, especially despite what is probably the second worst darkest period in our history.

I'd say it's the worst. Our one season in the 4th Division was our 'Falklands' - in, out, get the job done quickly. Our continued stay in the Third is becoming our 'WW2'. Will it ever end? Will it turn into our 'Hundred Years War'?

However, I'm beginning to feel that the tide has turned. Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. (OK, no more 'war' analogies :D). If Baptiste goes, that's the nature of loans as we've seen with Coady etc. Who had even heard of Baptiste a month ago?

A good finish to our season (ten points out of 12?) is vital, not to get into the play-offs, but to give us some optimism for 2016-17.

Although football especially in the premier league is slowly becoming a non contact sport...

I take it you didn't see Leicester v West Ham? :)

All we need to do is sign this lot, job done! (well, re-sign Butler of course, and Billy is already here)

I'd take much of that team, TBH Grappler.

Youd still need a lot more talent to stay up in the Championship mind
