Too many players hiding, no-one leading on the pitch, 4-4-2 isn't working.

For long periods only Bob Harris and Jamie Murphy actually wanted the ball.
Foxy it wasn't 4-4-2 though as Davies dropped in for most part.

Grumpy are you on drugs . Forget next season . This season is alive and kicking , and we are pissing up the wall , the chance of a life time to get out of this shit league .

Just pointing out that footie has highs and lows, even as a third division club it has stumped up some highs.

I've not written this season off, still think ten wins will get us up automatic.

Grumpy , mixed with all the frustration and every other emotion known to man , i still think we will do it . Let us hope Clough is a lucky bastard , and succeeds , were others have failed , for much lesser reasons and better football.

You ok fella . You didn't miss much.

Put this down to Clough . No mention of McCabe who is innocent and like us thought Clough was a good shout and godsend.

Am ok now, bit of a funny turn at work on Thursday and spent the rest of the day with the NHS (who, I have to say, were fantastic, each and every one of them, from Consultant to the porter who insisted on making me a cup of tea)

Back to the important stuff... the next match is critical.

4-4-2 will never work with our present squad.

I like Doyle in 5, he can cope - the reason he took so much stick pre Clough was that he played in a 4 and it didn't work then. No criticism of Doyle- he has been excellent under Clough , but never in a 4. As for Baxter in a 4 - when the going got tough he dropped off just in front of defence (hiding as sitters calls it) - anyone can sit in front of the back 4, but not in a 4-4-2 - you have to be proactive in the MIDDLE of the park.

I hope I never see 4-4-2 again with this squad.

Always been a Clough in man but today I'm so dissapointed it's unreal. When a team concedes goals like we have been you would have expected them to emphasise on being an attacking team but were not. It's no suprise the closest we have been to getting out of this league we were massively attacking regardless of who we played. I just don't know who's going to come in and make a difference, i want a manager who can build something but we need instant success to get out of this league. He's bought so many players as well which makes it even more dissapointing. Team needs cutting down, players need a kick up arse and Nigel change your tactics! This stubborn attitude has got to go.

The stubborn attitude wont go because he's too stubborn.
I've also never said a bad word about him but Coventry and Crawley who are relegation candidates, then Peterborough and now Fleetwood has told me all I need to know. When the opportunity is there he wont take it.
If two points had been twelve or even nine we'd be well in the race for second, but no, the manager and players had to once again revert back to being Sheffield United and duly fucked it up.

I am not really in the Clough Out Brigade but I also don't give a toss anymore, if I put the TV on Monday morning and he's gone I wont bat an eyelid. I'll just say "which backward fool is going to get the job next"

Of course it is but that's what makes football what it is.

Think it is twelve (3 prem and champ, 4 L1 and 2 L2) clubs will be relegated at the end of the season, shit happens, take it on the chin and come back next season if you fail with a dream in your heart.

Done that for the last 70 years grumps. I'm just starting to get a little pissed off with it all.

Fleetwood, fucking FLEETWOOD.

At home!

Slow, pedestrian midfield and not one leader amongst them. Shower of shit.

Even when we were towing early last season this is as probably as low a point as a Blade as I've felt. So much resource spent on Derby and Blackpool rejects and we wonder why we're shit - it's because they're mostly average players that weren't wanted by average/wank chapionship teams.

Utterly, utterly embarassed tonight.

I get where your coming from Wardy but Fleetwood are hardly a side dicing with relegation and have made a decent fist of their first season in this league. It's getting to stage now where Fleetwood would have been embarrassed to lose to us, we are that poor at home.

More or less. You just need to put Turner far to far over to the left, have Coutts occupying the same space as Brayford and huge gaps between the full backs and the centre halves and you're about there.

Turner
Brayford------------Basham------------McEv--------------Harris
Courts
Doyle--------------[Absent]---------------Murphy

Done-------Davies

Very poor today - nearly as poor as the players were many so called fans who decided that to abuse the players would lead to positive results. Disgrace.

Basil : ...Oh! Oh, I see!...It's my fault, is it?...Oh, of course, there I was thinking it was your fault because I left you in charge, or _Manuel's_ fault for not waking you, when all the time it was _my_ fault! Oh, it's so obvious now, I've seen the light! Ah well, I must be punished then, mustn't I? (slaps his bottom) You're a naughty boy Fawlty, don't do it again!

Shocking today. Immediate thought is to blame Turner for goals but that would be unfair. For the first goal Baxter under no pressure played a cocky pass without looking as to where it would go, just a sort of "Tony Currie" esque "look how good I am", gave the ball away put them on the attack and bang, one down.

Baxter epitomises this season for me, so much potential but absolutely wasted.

The Club will get the full reality of this when we're playing in front of vastly reduced home attendances next season in league 1

Are the match highlights anywhere yet to review?

It's really easy to blame the manager, but realistically any eleven out of the squad should have been good enough to beat an ordinary Fleetwood side yesterday !
I put the blame fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the players
There is no heart, passion or determination - most of them are weak, who appear to be just turning up and expecting the opposition to roll over and lose !
It is easy to see that most of these players would be able to perform well in the championship but collectively lack the nous, consistency, and desire to get the Blades out of the Third Division
The main problem is we do not have any leaders, just a bunch of semi talented players (still good enough to walk out of this division) that are error prone and have hearts the size of peas !
The biggest factor missing is BOTTLE - it appears that most of the players lack this vital ingredient (I do not include Matt Done in this category - he must wonder why he is running his blood to water when his so called team mates saunter around the pitch)

I disagree about the Baxter played a cocky pass and gave it away, it was Harris who was in space played a short pass to Baxter who had three men closing him down and had to get rid of the ball quickly because he was under pressure. I can't understand United they seem to be doing this all the time where a player gets the ball with time to look for a good pass and they make a short pass to a player who have an opposing player so close to them and are immediately under pressure. Also all season there is no pass and move, they are very static which doesn't create any space for the type of football Clough is wanting to play. I am surprised nobody has picked up on this, but in the first minute of play I noticed that Turner was holding one hand up over his eyes so he could see the field of play, surely someone could have taken a baseball cap round to him ? Bramall Lane has always had a problem at this end of the pitch when the sun is low in the sky, I do think this had a contributing factor to the two goals we conceded. It wasnt rocket science and Fleetwood recognised it after rhe first goal and tried to attack us from the left wing, unfortunately the sun goes down quickly in the second half and we were not good enough to attack them down the left before the sun went down. I would like to know if we won the toss up, because if we did someone made a serious mistake not taking advantage of the sun in the first half

Good Point, don't think Doyle is that bright enough to think of that - It was mentioned to me during the game also !
As regards the passing it also struck me yesterday that we seem to be passing to players that are tightly marked and offer no better outlet for the move !

As I tweeted after the match yesterday, you CANNOT play 4-4-2 with no sort of mobility in the middle of the park. If Coutts, Doyle and Baxter are to play in the same midfield it has to be as a 3 with Baxter supporting the striker and Coutts and Doyle sitting. I'm quite a positive person overall but that was extremely poor yesterday and we don't have too many positives to take,

Poor performances happen (quite regularly with us) and I can half accept that sometimes, but I'm pretty sure we didn't win a single 50-50 tackle yesterday. That is unacceptable. How many times did one of their players get through several challenges? They wanted it more and they got more. I thought the tactics were wrong, but some of the players need to grow a pair of fucking bollocks if we're going to get promoted.

Fleetwood ran straight through us several times and picked up so many loose balls in midfield. I was surprised that we didn't change it to the way you suggested. In fact that's how I thought we'd line up when I saw the team.

I was exactly the same, and suspect many others were too. Very strange decision.

Whoever is in charge of the Fleetwood Twitter account has been going off as though they've beat Chelsea or Man Utd.

Come on, Hillmorton. You've been to other home games this season. You'll get the picture. No confidence, very little skill, terribly-negative tactics for a home team, headless chicken defending, Umpteen corners with little or no end result. Outskilled by a so-called 'little' team. Barely a shot on target.

In other words - cup games excepted - pretty much what we've seen all season.
Think Steve Davies stood out as the only man on the field capable of trapping a ball and passing it to one of his own men. I liked him a lot. A single positive in an awful day.

Yes ..... its interesting that we seem to have lost the ability to pass the ball to one of OUR players. We must practice hard to do that !!

Think Turner had a word with Doyle before the toss to tell him exactly that.

Agree totally regarding Baxter yesterday, he was pants, however, Turner's display of goalkeeping was shocking ..... just as bad as he was on Tuesday night.
He must have a hole in him somewhere as the ball just goes through him. Shocking display, but he wasn't on his own !!!
