18 corners no goal our promotion Team is f++++d cannot wait untill next season

Ill health prevented my attendance and I felt confident of a positive result to day, so shall be interested to find out WTF went wrong.

For me this week has seen the season over.
Absolutely no chance of a play off campaign if you can't keep a clean sheet, can't trouble the goalkeeper more than once in a half and lose two easy home games in a row you deserve absolutely nothing.

Weak minds. Unsuitable tactics for league 1. Side not enough height to cope defensivlye or to capitalise on 18 corners. Just very very poor.

To be honest I blame Nigel's inconsistent team selections throughout this season...

There is no top team at any level who has switched and changed and chopped the way we have this season, it's through only talented players that we're even up there at the moment.

Last season's run was based on good players with good form playing good football CONSISTENTLY.

Forget Gillingham, this is the lowest point of the season by a long way. That was one of the most lethargic, lazy allround pathetic performance I've ever seen. Not one player showed any enthusiasm. It's not as if Fleetwood were any good, we were just far, far too slow to trouble them. I am quite literally speechless at that, sorry to sound so grim but I just can't believe what I've seen today

What's awful is that it takes something like this for the team to actually wake up...They think they can walk games like Gillingham, Fleetwood, Crawley etc. but they can't any when they get shown up the finally do something about it and its too late.

Footballers and fans forget at the end of the day its 11 vs 11

I felt for murphy today, the only player that wanted the ball and had no options when he received it

Phippsy! Phippsy! Here boy, Phippsy - go fetch. Get him boy, get him Phippsy. Good boy! Bring him, bring him here Phippsy. Good bouuuuuy..!

We have Dingles, Donny and Chessie as well as Scunthorpe in our last 12. I don't think we will beat Dingles away - Donny will beat us with Butler getting the winner and Paul Cook will set Chessie up to frustrate us and we won't have the quality to break them down.

Can't see what effect Coutts has nor Baxter to drive us forward. Only Murphy tries to take the game to the opposition and if he's off the pace we are a nothing team. Done must wonder what he has got in to.

If they are as flat as this at this time of the season then we are well and truly fucked

What the fuck do you say about that never mind the players how do we get up for the next match.
This is the worst I've felt since 81 and I can't see a solution to it we are just a poor side.
Like Foxy said there no leadership from the line or on the park
Any plus points please advise

Can't fault S11Blade's comments! Inconsistent team selections by a manager who I am losing confidence in. Listening to him on P or G & it is the same old rubbish, 8 injuries, find it tough, keep on plodding on, games catching up with us, Oh & we were in a worse position last year......................Excuses excuses..

I am sorry but he is bereft of ideas, just shuffling the pack, bring in this man & bring in that one. According to the manager even JB is struggling with confidence!

Does Neil C get a look in at CB he is asked on P & G &..........................oh he's injured & its too much for him.

Do we change the manager? I'm probably in the stay as we are for the time being, but we cannot just keep swopping & changing every week. Players look short on confidence & are playing well below par.

Without a bit less luck we could easily be 5-10 points worse off! Clough has got to earn his corn or at the end of the year serious questions need to be asked of what he has spent & how he has swopped & changed team selection. Lets be honest he is a non league manager who in his efforts in the Ch & LG 1 has left lots to be desired.

Even if we make the playoffs by a wing & a prayer can anyone see us going up?

Always been a Clough in man but today I'm so dissapointed it's unreal. When a team concedes goals like we have been you would have expected them to emphasise on being an attacking team but were not. It's no suprise the closest we have been to getting out of this league we were massively attacking regardless of who we played. I just don't know who's going to come in and make a difference, i want a manager who can build something but we need instant success to get out of this league. He's bought so many players as well which makes it even more dissapointing. Team needs cutting down, players need a kick up arse and Nigel change your tactics! This stubborn attitude has got to go.

Too many players hiding, no-one leading on the pitch, 4-4-2 isn't working.

For long periods only Bob Harris and Jamie Murphy actually wanted the ball.
And part of the problem was when Bob Harris got it. Wank, though to be fair, he wasn't alone.

Losing JCR and having Coutts on the right hand side looks a disasterous decision. What a passenger.

We play with our backs to goal for far too long. The Coutts / JCR switch sums up Clough's philosophy. Good luck to those who've clamoured for this, but it bores me shitless.

I can't see past a 5th season in the 3rd division right now.

Harris has been shocking at the back recently but at least he's showing some effort and as you say always wants the ball.

So many things wrong with today. Steve Davies didn't look great (early days of course), managing to clear the lower tier with an effort with Done well placed in the middle. The midfield to a man hid and contributed very little, topped off by Doyle once again missing a golden chance to save a point from virtually the same spot he missed that sitter mid-week. I'm not sure where this mythical Coutts/Brayford telepathic understanding comes from either. On one occasion Coutts appeared to be handcuffed to Brayford, despite the fact that Brayford had been waving him down the field before he, Brayford, received the ball. A couple of minutes later Brayford's simple square ball to Coutts went straight out of play. Yet another Harris slip let in their forward just after we'd pulled one back and McEveley had to get him out of bother. Oh yes, and the goalkeeping was terrible.

Oh I forgot, Wallace hit the worst free kick I've ever seen.

Did we line up like this?

Turner
Brayford Basham McEveley Harris
Coutts Baxter Doyle Murphy
Done Davis

Based on our current form, I can see at least two possibly three of the teams [currently] below us overtaking us during the run in. 5 points from the last 15 isn't the haul many on here were predicting a few weeks back. Up to a week or so ago, some were still predicting automatic!!!!!

'The Vicar' is absolutely spot on. If we hadn't had the rub of these last few months we could easily be 8 - 10 points worse off.

If we are really going to go for the play offs [stay there and compete there] then there has to be some significant improvement. For me, it has to start with the players who need to take a real, hard look at themselves.

2 immobile midfielders was the start of the problems. Doyle works hard but the poor bloke runs for 2 or 3 every week and looked knackered.

Baxter doesn't do any running at all defensively. They set up with 3 in midfield and we couldn't get anywhere near them. They won every second ball from both attack and defence.

We looked to have found a winning formula at Bristol (They played 3 at the back but the concept would still work) with Murphy and Done out wide and Baxter/Holt a little deeper than an orthodox strikers role. It gave their defence problems as they had no-one to mark and Murphy, Done, Holt, Basham and Doyle running at them with Coutts sitting and pulling the strings.

We out footballed and out thought Bristol that day, the tactics were spot on. We haven't set up that way before or ever since. Why, I have no idea.

Easy, put two upfront one with hieght and for the first time took nearly all the corners short.

Then, every attack was shoved out to the wings after very slowly working our way up the pitch from side to side and waiting for all their players to get behind the ball. No service in from wings to centre. A heat map would be brought red in their corners and infront of out penalty area where we played nearly all out possession.

I am appalled by that today - another Saturday evening in a bad mood.

Utterly abject performance - if it means so little to them then F off somewhere else and rob some other club for a living as that was not fit for graves park
I totally agree with an earlier comment that Fleetwood were toilet it just so happens we are the contents of that toilet after a hot curry.
It took until 70 mins to make our first sub , 80 for the second and 87 for the 3rd ... Mind you dont know why I am moaning they actually made it worse !!!
And how the F did paul coutts stay on all game ???
He is a centre mid player Ffs anyone can see that - his whole style is totally wrong for the wing and in doing so screws up Brayford ( although he was poor as well) ...
Did paul scholes EVER play wide .. Oh whatever its just so boring and frustrating being a blade at the moment

More or less. You just need to put Turner far to far over to the left, have Coutts occupying the same space as Brayford and huge gaps between the full backs and the centre halves and you're about there.
