Baldock getting a contract has no correlation to Duffy. Judging by what we have seen so far Duffy wouldn’t have made the bench never mind got a new contract. One year contract playing a limited amount of games and probably having limited options at the end or try to win a longer contract elsewhere by playing games. 9/10 we would applaud a player for that, but not Duffy.

When a new manager comes in he will be wanting to bring in the players he knows well during the January window. Wouldnt surprise me if he thought Duffy would be one of the faces that "doesnt fit"
 
Unfortunately for Duffy, he's the wrong side of 30, and, although he's a very decent player still, he needs to fit into the system the club play.
With us, he had a bit of free reign, like all our players, attack or defend, just make sure you do it as a team.
Stoke unfortunately, don't play the game like us, and already have players they've bought, I'm sure Duffy was only ever going to be back up, even though he's probably better than the guys keeping him on the bench, but that's football.
Hopefully he will get his chance, I'm not sure after watching their highlights, that Stoke will be in the Championship though.
 
Duffy's case appears to be a case of bad timing and attitude. I reckon the transfer window and preparing the squad for a step-up from the Championship to the Premiership was not really the best time to go knocking on Wilder's door and ask about a new contract, given that he'd only had one a year ago. Although, I think from Duffy's side, he'd be aware that Wilder had got into the habit of hauling him off after 60 minutes in many games last season, and was probably fearful that he was going to play less and less of a part, so was trying to get a bit more financial security for himself and his family, in the form of a contract extension.

Duffy has got a bit of a track record of lashing out on social media at various things to do with him either not playing or being subbed etc. I don't think Wilder will have appreciated that. Additionally, there's been some stuff previously about him being a bit of a disruptive influence amongst the squad. I imagine Wilder got to the position where, good as Duffy is, it was becoming a hassle having him around the place with his constant bickering and demands. Put another way, I suspect he's a mardy little ....and a pain in the arse to manage.

Now that's o.k. if he's a 24 year old wonder-kid with a high and increasing market value. But for a 34 year old with a falling market value, it's not such an attractive proposition. I thought the words used by Wilder also gave us a clue as to what went on. Wilder said that he wasn't going to be "dictated to" in terms of contracts. So it seems it was less of a request and more of a demand.

Whatever the reasons anyhow, we've got great memories of his time at our club, and it's probably the best period of his career too. It's a pity it all had to end like this, but at 34 it was going to end shortly in any case, somewhere.

I hope the lad has a good season for Stoke. It's surely too early yet to be saying it's not worked out for him? Where do some of you guys get your sense of timing from? 4 games played, 4 not 40. Stoke sit bottom of the table. I can think of another club who found themselves in that position after 4 league games, yet still got promoted. 🤔

I don’t think anybody is saying they want him to fail. I read a mixture of sympathy, bewilderment and sadness. Other saying he’s made his bed doesn’t equal wanting him to do badly.
 
Well it’s not really worked out so far, and won’t work out however it plays out at Stoke this season.
He’s there on loan, so his contract isn’t going to be any longer than it already is! So not playing for Stoke will be a disaster for him going forwards as he will then be lucky to get offered a deal anywhere!

Great player as he was for us, he’s fucked up. Whether he’s done this off his own back or following advice from someone else he’s been very foolish, and should have been doing all he could to apologise and return to how things were. All I can say is that it sounds like whatever went off was more than him suggesting to Wilder he would love to be negotiating a new contract, it must have been much more aggressively done for Wilder to drop him like that.
 
He played a game of poker with Wilder, but unfortunately his bluff (when having a shit hand) failed. That's the game I'm afraid and he'll now have to live with his decision. I actually thought about him after Sundays result and wondered what he would be thinking. Silly boy, silly decision!!!
 
I think it’s a case of ego. In reality SUFC is the only club on his CV where it worked out for him. In the 6 previous years before the blades he scored 18 goals in the league. He was loaned out by Birmingham to Chesterfield and Burton. Ours system and the way our manager tactically played made Duffy. He had great games for us and will always be remembered for that goal but his ego or his Mrs ego has let him down. His own history should have told him what to do. It didn’t and he has to live with it. We move on.

Can’t remember seeing it but I’ve a feeling his family reasons might have something to do with his wife.

Just watched it, didn't notice that before!
Just wished the contract disagreement had the same ending with Duffy seeing sense

Wilder was never very eager to praise him after games compared to other players, I don't think they are that keen on each other.

Putting his fall out with CW aside, it strikes me that Stoke were unwise to take Duffy on, due to their midfield being theoretically very strong, with arguably better players, and Duffy was unwise to go there for the same reasons. Not a good match, and it won't end well in my opinion.

The Stoke fans were saying that when he signed. They couldn't understand why they were bringing in another midfielder. Talk now is that he may play on Saturday but as a winger. I don't think he's played in that position since our 3-0 defeat against Southend.
 
That fookin stoke manager is inept, that's why they are rock bottom, he will be gone in a couple of weeks , Play Duffy u thick twat .
 
We'll never know if Duffy would have offered us anything "different" in the prem but so far we ain't missed him. I much prefer Robinson's pace and desire to run at defenders. Also had L Freeman played in the 10 role I think I can comfortably say who I'd prefer after Sunday's performance
 
Ironic thing is, even if he wasn't nailed on to get in the squad, after just one game, Fleck is a doubt and Freeman did well in his role.

There would be a spot on the bench potentially availa me already.

Silly lad badly advised. No issue with his Mrs supporting her husband, but being on the bench vs Leicester to being on the bench for the bottom club in the Championship is not the best move you'll ever make!
