I've just been looking at the route for Saturday (my dinner break is that exciting) and decided to check how much it was for the Dartford Crossing... only to find that you no longer pay by cash at the barriers. Thought this may be handy for anyone who wants to get it out of the way before travelling:

Aye, was going to mention to you... Our drivers at work regularly use the crossing and it all changed a few months back.

You can pay retrospectively too, up to 72 hours I think but worth checking as it might be 24.

Put it up 50p each way too, the bastards!

I have a mate who gets very agitated by the Dartford Crossing and has to use it several times weekly.

The essence of his agitation is that the original deal was for the cost of construction to be recouped, at which point the crossing would become free to use. All costs had been covered by about 2002, at which point, the payment changed from a toll to a charge, which means we'll pay to use it forever and my mate will be apoplectic in perpetuity.

The last time I used it, it cost £1.50, not that long ago, so it's a very inflationary piece of transport infrastructure and if it's gone up again, my mate must be mad with rage.
