Doyle?

I thought Doyle played well last season, and has a lot of the attributes Utd supporters look for - energy, determination, steel, skill and likes a tackle. He also scores goals from midfield.

The season before we played Cardiff and their supporters were raving about him before the game about what a good player he was. I was pleased when we got him for the season and I haven't deviated from that.

He's 21, an England U21 midfielder, with fantastic pedigree and coming from the best club in Europe where he's on the verge of their first team squad, AND he wants to join us.

Genuinely, what's not to like about that???

Some of the sandy vaginas on here really boil my piss - no suggested player is ever good enough for some of them - too old, too young, injury prone, too expensive, too cheap FFS. Some on here wouldn't sign Messi as he's too small, and Ronaldo because he styles his hair....

Doyle's a good player who is young and likely to get much better, he fits our model perfectly.

Get him signed
The real question is what we do with limited funds. I doubt he will come as a loan, so we have to see whether his style of play is what we need or if there is a more attacking/exciting player available.
There is no doubt TD is a good player and with unlimited funds could be brought in, but we are not in that situation.

Gdpr won't allow such information to be released. Transfermarkt has his contract at city to 2025. £50k pw =£2.5m per yr. £75pw =£3.75m . Not job stopping numbers for such a key player.

But the point i’m making is with the amount of players that have contracts up for renewal; means there’s a chance of having to pay similar sums to 5 or 6 players or risk them walking away and starting next season needing another 8-9 players.

Not trying to upset the apple cart but I'm going to continue speculating on Doyle's wages (hear me out), I'd suggest the wage we're offering is better than what he is on now but if we drop to the Championship it will be worse so speculatively saying he's on 20 we're offering 30 but cut to 15 should we get relegated.
I reckon he's holding on for us to loan him to protect all his interests, will we? Course we will we still have another EPL loan and even more from elsewhere.

If we get relegated and he’s as good as he believes he is then he’d gets a move back to a prem team and stay on high wages. So don’t see the issue 🤷‍♂️.

Only becomes an issue if he’s not actually good enough to play at this level (yet) and then it just shows his current wages are over inflated…..but he’s still earning over £1m a year playing in the championship for a year or two before raising back to pre-relegation level.

Bumping this as it's slipping off the first page and this might help to get the deal over the line 🤣

Even though TD has indicated he wants to come back, it's still a little too quiet for me :(

Maybe this might get Doyle side moving a bit if he genuinely wants to come to us

Whilst we might still want Doyle, and he may still want to come, surely the priority has to be on an AM and a striker now?

We have Souza and Norwood for the holding role, Davies and Hamer as box to box, then Slimane and the rest to cover. That feels like it might be enough for the CM positions.

This.

I like Doyle and would have had him in if possible.

But we have added significantly in his area of the pitch. Where (now) does he fit in ?

Priority HAS to be at the top of the pitch now. At least 2 needed. Probably 3.

Rocket Man doyle on a perm is surely dead as dish water now?
Not at all. 2 types of deal live with Tommy: Buy or LTB. This one is juggled against the Archer deal. Villa less likely to loan Archer without a heavy downpayment and a mandatory buy. We are juggling available funds. Tommy is in the ear of City to make things happen.

Where has Doyle publicly stated he wants to come back that people are alluding to?

Good lad Tommy ⚔️

I agree in general but you could play a mid of Souza holding then Davies and Doyle behind Hamer in a diamond behind a single striker
Makes us narrow but compact and gives wingbacks space down flanks in possession. Just a thought...

That could work, but if you had the money to spend on Doyle, why not use that to buy someone like Ilias Chair from QPR to play behind the striker (probably a lot cheaper than Doyle), and play Hamer in his natural position next to Davies in that case?

Yep again that makes sense to me too. I do think we can only play one up top, I think Hecky wants a more solid base in midfield and that is understandable, I agree we still lack creativity but I do see a way of bringing Doyle in to the mid.

If we bring in more midfielders it opens the door to let some of the standby midfielders to be sold to the Champ before the deadline.
Do we have standby midfielders? If Doyle joined our "worst" would probably be Osborn or Fleck (injured) and you would imagine Osborn would be kept due to his versatility. Maybe some youngsters would get out?
