we and Macdonald missed him hugely in the last 2 and three quarter games.

We have been missing Doyle since the play off final. Looked a bit out of sorts and could have been sent off in games prior to Scunthorpe. Hopefully the new long term deal will settle him down and we will get that play off final leader back

Stability Bergen, stability. Part of a settled squad with no need for him to start whinging about sorting his future at least for this season

Didn't realise he was that old but I'm happy about this. We've missed him in the last couple of games.

Fully agree with that. He's under contract though. I think the club should have assessed things in a few months and a one year extension may have made good sense if he'd continued to do well. If Whitehouse starts partnering McDonald after christmas and we go up I don't think Doyle will be good enough for the following two Championship seasons.

Trevor Birch said that when he dished out lengthy, luxurious contracts for Morgan, Quinn, Cresswell and Monty.

Not too sure about this........ Thirty one year old and a 3 year contract ?? must be his scintillating start to the season that sealed it o_O

Words fail me. 32 is past it in the modern game so we tie him down until he's 34. Why do we never learn?

yes lets watch him have a blinding season and leave for fuck all at the end of it ,while we search for a replacement next year , always something to moan about ,unreal :(

Well part of the trouble is that because of modern contracts, the last year is basically a chance for a player to negotiate or become free agent

Why three years?

Why not wait until the end of the season to see how we do and offer him one then as we did this year?

Why would we need to protect the contract of a 32 year old defensive midfielder playing in league one that no other team has ever shown any interest in at the end of the season?

Are there really no other prospects around that we have to be resolved to play a 34 year old in central midfield two seasons hence?

He certainly won't eb whinging, he'll be laughing his arse off that we have given him a 3 year contract.

3 years contracts for people over 31???

Have we learned nothing for gods sake?

You are kiding me. Who the hell would take him. His legs are going and without Ched the lads who remain from last term are quickly getting found out. He is a very average pub league player who will be shocking in 3 years time.

But, having said that, hopefully we will be in the 2nd tier and god help us if he is in the team at that point. Or is McCabe setting his stall out to run a proper pub league side.

Last laugh is on him , we will be out of business next year lolz

I can think of a few decent players older than 34 who are not 'past it'. Doyle's game is hardly based on skinning an opponent is it? I agree that a 3 year deal is more than generous but age is only a number. He is probably fitter than McDonald who is about 7 years his junior!

Perhaps, just perhaps our manager thinks that his club captain is worth a decent contract.

Perhaps, perhaps the last few years have all been a dream and we're still in the PL with loads of money. Oh wait a minute, we're not.

The club never learns. It will be Money and Cresswell all over again in 2 years

The fans never learn more like.,. Since when did a contract duration = financial disaster.

So lets get this right:
We don't want players on short term loan
We don't want players on long term loans
We don't want older experienced players
We don't want kids
We don't want players contracts running out
We don't want to give players long term deals
We don't want
We don't want
We don't want....

Christ we complain at virtually every type of player.

Im surprised any players want to sign for us when we whinge at everything the club does

Not sure why 3 years, but there's a difference that as you'd expect, is ignored by all the usual suspects queueing up to slag the club off.

His game is not based on pace and shouldn't drop off in the way a forward would. We have no knowledge as to what were paying him - our wage structure has obviously plummeted since the silly days of extending Cresswells contract by 3 years. He's currently a major player in our team, as our best player clearly flourshes by his side.

UTB

Is it just Blades ,we give our club and team captain and obviously influential player a 3 year contract ,when we have not secured players over the last couple of years and all we do is moan like fuck ?

Mind you its the same usual names ,what would their reaction have been if he had left at Xmas leaving us bare in the middle ?- no foresight.
what would there reaction be if he had a one year contract - no ambition
2 year contract ,we will lose both Macdonald and Doyle next season - pathetic ,McCabe is a prick.

Moan moan moan :(

If he's our team captain then he needs to start acting like one by setting an example.
