United 3-0 Charlton

One of United's better performances that season. Edwards makes it 8 goals in 5 consecutive games, and the Morning Telegraph label him 'the King of the Kop.

Chico Hamilton provided the assist for Edwards opener and then found Charlton's keeper Jeff Wood in inspired form denying Stainrod and a Woody thunderbolt. Wood is now manager of Gibralter.

Two goals in the last six minutes sealed the two points, firstly from Stainrod, again assisted by Hamilton, and then a tap in for Edwards.

Charlton remained unbeaten for the remainder of the season.

Jimmy Sirrel was wearing a Blade home shirt (think it was an old one) in the dugout. Dont recall any other managers doing this

An intended late cross from Geoff Salmons found its way into the net. Man U's keeper was John Connaughton who had a good game that night. When he came to us he never had a good game for us!

Leeds fielding 4 future Blades in their XI, and didn't we have also have Matthew Spring at one stage (can't remember if that was before or after)?

Walton joined us on a season-long loan in July 2010.However, he suffered cruciate knee ligament damage during his first outing for the club in a pre-season friendly which proved to be a long-term injury. Following a recovery period at Bramall Lane his parent club, Plymouth Argyle, agreed to terminate his loan and recall him at the start of September.

I was reluctant to put Walton down as a future Blade, but I thought he should count. Didn't we also sign Bennett from Leeds when we got promoted? A friend of mine is an 'Udders fan, and had a lot of time for Bennett, who in turn apparently had a lot of time for us. I think he may still work as a GK coach at Town.

FA Youth Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg

United 2 Villa 0, Elliot Whitehouse with both goals

Attendance: 4,016

Excellent night down at the Lane.

Always interesting to see how they fared later,

Matty Harriot, now at Wealdstone, was present when the little'un signed at U9s,

Aaron Barry went back to Ireland I think,

Corey Gregory went to Matlock

Pomeres was playing in the Spanish 3rd Division.

Ironside - Alfreton?

Whitehouse - Nuneaton? Halifax?

Ironside gone from Alfreton not good enough apparently.
I really thought he'd make the grade

Blades 1-2 Newcastle United.

This one was a real sickener against struggling Newcastle.

The kind of result that gets teams relegated

On a trivial note. Christian Nade scored United's 4000th League goal at Bramall Lane

Today's match sponsor is Meadowhall.

That's ironic as about 10,000 of our supporters now go there instead of the Lane.

This was a bad one, although the match against Everton that season felt worse. Speaking of, why does it always feel bad when you lose in the sunshine (not that the rain made the match the following month any easier to take).

Any particular reason we played Lucketti rather than Morgs?

10 (TEN!) years ago tomorrow.

Webber scores the only goal at Cardiff and we're on the brink.
