United score early through Webber and hold a comfortable three goal lead until two late goals provide some nervy moments.

July 15th 1 year ago. United's youngsters win 3-2 at Steels as they rally late after trailing 2-1. Joel Coustrain scores a superb winner.

The David Weir era at the Lane starts with a 2-2 draw against top class greek opposition that nobody had heard off, or since.
Atromitos. Porter and Lyle Taylor with the goals.

For the younger readers, the top picture is of what we used to call a 'central defence'.

Sometimes I think...

Another trip down Misery Lane.

Imagine though supporting a club that's only "misery" wasn't qualifying for Europe or winning the PL?
We have a lot to be thankful for, the sterling work of the last few managers/players.
Great set o' lads they all were.

11 years ago 2005. Steve Kabba scores the only goal in a 1-0 win. Sunderland should have had Nozza in the starting line up. He'd have stopped us.

It ws the start of the promotion campaign. I bought the little un' his first United kit. It had the HFS Loans beer mat on the front.

The middle fell out after a few washes. Ca La vie

Ironic that they had both Collins and Nos on the bench. The two central defenders in probably the worst Blades' second division side I've seen. Certainly the worst CH pairing I've seen at that level.

We had to bring Webber off after a dirty foul on possibly their keeper, Sunderland players went nuts and Warnock took him off so he wasn't injured. Can't believe that was 11 years ago!

12 years ago Today July 31st 2004. Reserve team friendly at the 'Theatre of Chips'

Plenty of familiar names on the team sheet for both sides. A 1-1 draw with Forte scoring for the Blades

Good video of that season on viewfromthe johnstreet

It's 2005-06 when the Blades won promotion back to the Premier League. A season that, as always, began in hope and expectation. It ended with an open top bus tour of the city centre and joyous scenes as thousands of fans amassed outside Sheffield Town Hall. Anything seemed possible after that. No-one can have imagined then what would happen to the club after just one season in the top tier that followed.

Come next May when hopefully United will have another promotion to look back on, it will be 10 years and counting since the Blades were a Premier League club, six of them in League One.

The film, made by Televideo Productions 2006, lasts for an hour and 50 minutes so you might want to watch it in bite-sized chunks. Or like me, settle down in a quiet corner and immerse yourself in a campaign which embodied everything Sheffield United is about. Click arrow on the clapperboard.

Anyway to catch up:

August 1st, 6 years ago A 1-0 win courtesy of Matty Lowton against Estudiantes at the Lane.

August 2nd, 44 years ago, 1972. The Watney Cup Semi against Peterborough. TC Sent off after 26 minutes, but we still won 4-0 with goals from Mackenzie, Dearden, Woody and Hemsley. Surely, nothing could stop the Blades bandwagon heading for Watney Cup final glory.

August 3rd 34 years ago 1982, A 3-0 win at Raith Rovers. Programme a double sided typed single sheet paper of a larger than average size.

Goals from Edwards and a couple for Trusson

and finally today August 4th. 37 years ago. A 1-0 win at the Abbey Stadium in the Anglo Scottish Cup.

John Flood was the goalscorer. The programme was an awful b/w 4 pager.

Wednesday score two goals in the 2nd half, Tommy Craig (some papers credited the first goal as Colquhoun og) and Jackie Sinclair the scorers. John Tudor came on as sub replacing Gil Reece and scored the winner that went through Peter Grummitt's legs

A soft shot that went through Grummitt's legs similar to Deane's goal that went through Woods' legs in November 1991

What has happened to the photos I posted, Foxy

Ta for clearing that up................but sticking with John Tudor can you remember the headed goal that he scored from the edge of the area........can still see a headline on the front of the Green Un.

Think that headed goal was against Preston or Bury. Tudor had only just joined us and he scored a couple of goals.

Three of Tudor's goals for us in 1970-71 were headers (home against Carlisle, Oxford and Portsmouth) from close range. I started watching the Blades regularly from January 1970 so bornablade is probably right that the header you are thinking about id in either 1968-69 (more likely) or 1969-70 season

Talking of down memory lane....yesterday was 46 yeas to the day since Blades beat the Piggy's 3 - 2 down at BDTBL (the day I was born)
