Does Basham come back into the side?

Got to pick our games with Basham. He is well used away from home, particularly against the better sides. However, against weaker teams and particularly at home, he should be nowhere near the pitch as he isn't good enough on the ball and slows us down. Horses for courses basically.

The 3 midfielders ran the show today so as things stand no, but as Ricky says we could well use his physicality and energy against Bradford.

Tactics will dictate. In Wilder we trust!

One thing is for sure, you can see the desire to keep the shirt from whoever gets on the pitch. Wilder knows what he's doing.

Bash has to wait for his opportunity

Wilder said that players who get the shirt will keep the shirt as long as they perform and today they performed :)

Done well this season has Bash but it would be unfair on the midfield 3 who all performed well in a big win. Same again for Tuesday but can Ricky being right and Bash returning against Bradford. We might just need that little bit more bite for that one

If the oppo has multiple 6 footers in the middle of the park then yes. Wilder won't leave us exposed in this way.

Otherwise probably no.

UTB

Agree with this. I have no idea how the next opposition line up, so there could be good tactical reasons to add the extra height. That's what Wilder gets paid for.

Based on the performance today, absolutely not!

Sadly, as much as I love basham I think it is also probably in the interest of the squad that he is on the bench too. His versatility means competition for multiple places and that means inadvertently upping the overall standard of players on the pitch.

He'll have to fight his way in that's for sure. Probably worth giving the team that played today a good run of games together now and see how far they get before a bad patch, as there is bound to be one. Then that'll be Bashams time as he knows how to dig his heels in!
He still has a part to play yet I think

Totally agree.

It does make you wonder whether today's fluidity, control and Barcelona seque interplay from Coutts, Fleck and Duffy was just a fluke and one of them days when everything clicked

Or is the new midfield 3 gradually striking up an understanding and these types of midfield dominance will become common practice throughout the season?

Maybe Wilder has found the magical formula

I reckon there's a chance (particularly as Wright played 90 mins) that he may take Wright's 3rd centre back option. Basham was preferred as a centre back at Scunthorpe so it could happen again.

Wright was excellent. He's an experienced campaigner who read the game so well he hardly broke sweat. No reason whatsoever for Basham to take his place. Why would you?

So soon our bench will also include bash and Clarke. They can then earn the right to be in the 11 when they get a chance.

I'm inclined to agree. I wouldn't change anything for now, but I don't think Bash will be out of the team for long, if at all.

There's nobody that deserves to be dropped to bring Basham back in. I said we wouldn't miss him and we haven't. The best performance in years yesterday.

Basham lacks Wright's organisation ability, the key reason he's in the side and a big part of why O'Connell and EEL are performing so well. I'd be shocked if Wright was dropped for Basham.
