Squad far more suited to 3 at the back

Not sure we’ve waved convinced that much workout a four.

The original overlapping centre backs only fell down when O’Connell was never replaced.

Maybe we have replaced him. It sounds like Zatterstrom has similar attacking attributes.

I’d say the current personnel are far more attuned to this type of system if you include those we are closely linked with:

Godfrey Peck Soumaré Burrows
O’Hare Hamer
Campbell

Henderson
Basham Egan O’Connell
Baldock Norwood Fleck Stevens
Duffy McGoldrick

I see a lot of parallels. You actually have pace in defence, you have pace and creativity out wide. You’d create a platform for O’Hare and Hamer to have fun together without weakening us defensively. You have a poached up front who actually has some pace.

You’d be able to bring in Seriki and move Godfrey into a more central defence role if that was required. McCallum would be better as wing back than full back as clearly Burrows is.

The main losers are perhaps Brooks and Barry, but Brooks could cover left wing back and also left central midfield or even a role further forward. Barry becomes a good impact alternative to O’Hare and Hamer with less pressure to perform from the start.

Our reluctance to use a back 3 for the last couple of years has been bizarre because we've had the squad for it

The current prospective defence especially

We'd get a bare minimum level of performance out of this that we can't rely on otherwise

There's plenty still wrong there however

It wouldn't be good enough at controlling possession, and the forward balance is off. There is also no reliable RWB and the LCB is right footed

It was totally unnecessary to leave ourselves with such a poor balance. We haven't even got a strike pairing, FFS

It’s his reluctance to move away from 3 in the midfield that’s costing us , we gone from a side that was creating chances to one that isn’t ( last 15 mins apart yesterday) . Millwall , Brum & Bristol C have all pushed their full backs out wide & up on us opened us up at will . Peck , Hamer , O’Hare midfield isn’t working , need Soumare in there in Souza’s old roll to start getting a foothold in there

Ironically we’d be better off with Moore if we move to 3 at the back.
