So I was born on a Friday then, didn't know that. No Liverpool in the top division. Wolves were very rarely out of the top 3 throughout the fifties

Yes. He was in goal for about 80 minutes. One of the rare highlights of a dismal season

Some of us (me) are feeling discriminated against. Born end of June in an era where pre-season didn't exist because you were playing Cricket. Looked at my father's, mother's, wife and daughter's birthdays. Not a Satdi Tuesdi amongst em. One of the cat's was born on Sunday May 24th 2015, but we'd lost to Swindon and didn't make the playoff final that day. :oops:

This is from 11v11.com, which provides no other information. Can any older members enlighten me as to our team/scorers etc.

Also, cracking thread. I'd never even thought to look if there was a match on the day I was born!

I'm the same Snowman. June 1955 birthdate. I've worked it back 9 months. On September 18th 1954 the Blades beat our neighbours from S6 1-0 at BDTBL.

I can quite understand now after all these years why Born a Blade was conceived.

Can't help you there, you'll have to come up with your own thread. Who were we rumoured to be signing on the day you were born? Who will we be playing on the day you die? The close season will soon be over.;)

I fear you have extended the life of this thread in a way I did not foresee. Perhaps one of the statisticians on here will be able to plot a graph of birth rates amongst Blades. I reckon a few months from now there will be quite a baby boom on the right side of Sheffield.
 
I'm a post season baby. The nearest result was a 2-2 draw at Huddersfield 3 days after the Bradford fire.

Not read anything about Pace wearing the number 7 shirt. Looking at Clareborough's Complete Records, he did wear the number 7 shirt for that match. It was Pace's only appearance in 7 matches and Shiels was number 9 for these 7 matches but when Pace returned to the team, Shiels wore the number 7 shirt (he played only 4 more times for the rest of the season after Pace's return)
