I’ve just read the thread on that forum. Most of them put the Pigs down as bigger than them and a bigger fan base. Same category as Villa and Everton.

Rivalry aside I just can’t fathom why I read shit like that. Can someone explain to me, please, what I’m missing?

I genuinely cannot understand what they see when they put the Pigs down as a bigger club than just an average sized 2nd tier club. Four league titles when the world was in flickering black & white granted but so has Huddersfield.

Fan base keeps getting mentioned on that thread but does anybody actually have a look at historical attendances. If they bothered to they’d see that the Pigs are nothing out of the ordinary. Just a bang average club similar in size to many others.

It’s all just a self perpetuating myth. Fans read shit like that and accept on face value without checking and then go on to repeat it.

Credit to the Pigs though, they’ve somehow pulled of the illusion of the century, this and last.

Its confirmation bias

Derby in stature are a club in a smallish city, whos biggest claim to fame in the last 50 years is been the crappest team in the premier league

However they want to see themselves as been 'massive', above EPL staples like Southampton, Leicester?!, Burnley , and Palace

So they have to view similar teams to them in that category too - Sunderland, Forest, WBA.... and of course the Pigs

They believe that aligning themselves to other shit teams somehow elevates their status, above teams that have actually had greater success than them in recent memory - Stoke, Norwich, Bournemouth, Blades.

Can anyone name a DCFC player since Kinkladze (2003) - Keogh for been a bellend and looking like a howler monkey doesnt count.

This is just what fans of shit clubs do. Invent some purely subjective table to how big they are to feel relevant. We did it a bit in League One. It's just fans trying to convince themselves it will be alright in the end.

None of the clubs in the second tier have won anything in 3, 4 or 5 decades. A couple haven't even been in the top flight for over 2 decades. Saying any of them are bigger than Leicester is absolutely insane.
Does this mean Wigan are bigger than all the other clubs in 2/3/4 th Div’s as they won FA cup recently
Its all make believe to sooth how shit they really are

They have won the top flight league twice in the last fifty years so a bit harsh mate.

Why does this shit even matter? It’s history. Who cares what Derby did 50 years ago or what the pigs did 30 years ago? It doesn’t have much bearing on now or tomorrow. It’s like a bunch of old, fat, bald blokes sat in a care home saying “remember when I shagged that reight fit lass, wi’ miniskirt, looked a bit like Twiggy”.

For me the definition of a "big club", is not about how many leagues or cups you've won, how long you've been in the top flight, or how big your ground is. I think the best way of defining a big club is how many fans travel to away games although this has been skewed in recent years with many clubs limiting the number of away tickets. For example, take Leeds, for me they are one of the biggest clubs in the country with only Manchester United and Liverpool bigger. No matter what division Leeds are in, or who they're playing, they will always filll their away allocation.

Leicester won The Premier League and got to a Champions League quarter final. They're in a FA Cup final and are probably going to be top 4 again. All within the last 5 years. I doubt any of the clubs listed above them will achieve any of that in my lifetime.

Us, Wednesday, Derby, WBA etc are all in the same tier of clubs with good fanbases who are unlikely to ever challenge for honours. Put them in what order you like but we're all in the same tier

These sorts of "My club's bigger than your club" debates are tiresome, pointless and a bit sad.

It's indicative of how horrendous our season has been that this is the most engaging thing we have to discuss at present.

It’s a narrative perpetuated by the media and then parroted by others. A lot of those currently working in tv and print media will remember Wednesday in the 90s and therefore have that as the bench mark for what they are as a club. Give it another decade without them being at the top table and those working in the media will naturally shift to a younger demographic and the narrative on Wednesday will change.

Aren't Wednesday great.

Haven't been insulted on here in a while so just casting a line. :)

I also consider Wembley allocations. I reckon we can just about fill half with nobody missing out.

Agree Roy , we’re all much of a muchness ,
All they were short of saying was “ tin pot “ and little clubs

So by that table, we're smaller than the pigs but bigger than weeds.

Certainly didn't see that coming! 😅

thing is derby know theyve got to go for a win highly unlikely but if toytown win at cardiff even a draw isnt enough to save em mind got to be honest think pigs will win and stay up really hope im wrong though utb fto

Maybe the grading needs looking at. We've had 11 more top flight seasons than Leeds and have won more cups, but they've won more Leagues 🤷‍♂️
I was wondering whether you should include appearances and/or wins in European Competition as well, but that just sounds like I'm trying to make a lot of work for you 😅
