Berge is far and away our best midfielder.

Slimane I have high hopes and his experience tells you he’s way ahead of any of our youngsters.

Norwood and Osborn would be more affective than Arblaster/Neal in the PL.

There’s not denying we need new signings in the area though. It’s the area of most concern for me.

Results don’t matter as such but minutes on the pitch do and getting players familiar with the style and each other.

All that said, great news Ndiaye is still here and starting!

Worth remembering that pre season matches and training is largely for the benefit of players and management.
Any benefit for supporters is only a by product of the primary function.

Supporters expecting additions to the current squad will know that most loan signings arrive late in the window.
I expect at least two more players to arrive from this group, three if PH gets very lucky. Any more come from the unrealistic expectations of dreamers and the very young. I think any of those who have signed already will probably not be EPL ready starters!

My arithmetic says there’s at least $10m left for transfer fees which is one decent player or two bargains.
Then there’s the two loans from PL and unlimited loans from abroad.

Ever the optimist , we must bring in starting eleven quality for :
LCB
Lfooted MF who can both tackle and create better than any of our present MF.
Those two positions are our Achilles heel.

After those two are sorted and depending on injury list , we can look at :
Better than Bash as backup for Anel and Egan.
RWB if Bogle crocked long term.
ST if McB can’t stay fit.
Better MF than Norwood Osborn Fleck Coulibaly , then we can ship Fleck out who should never have been re-signed as always unfit.

Nine injuries before we even start is feckin ridiculous.
How have we managed to sign so many crocks ?
If you add in the loan players who we lost (5) and the ones we released (4) , it makes a staggering total of 18 players down on last season.
To balance that , we have signed 3.
We are holed below the waterline.
Unless the Prince wants us to sink before we set sail , he needs to find some cash - if we start the season looking like certain relegation , he’ll never get a buyer , so it’s in his interests to give us a fighting chance.

Having just read this lot from start to finish I'm now expecting to see the Sheaf full of bodies before we even kick a ball in the Prem.

If our Prince doesn’t find some of his own money - I mean his own money , not the club taking out loans - he could be selling a Championship club (in all but name) by Christmas.
He’s said he wants to sell.
At the moment he’s selling a PL club which he reckons is worth at least $50m more than in the Championship.
So if we go down without having signed any permanents , he faces the prospect of :
A club worth at least $50 less.
With virtually no contracted players on its roster and losing money every week , making it worth even less - probably only its bare asset value , about $45m.
So he goes from his current sale at $150m to holding a lame duck worth $45m if he’s lucky.
Whether or not he loves Sheffield or dem Blades , it must make sense for him to throw in some of his own money to give us a sporting chance of PL survival.
To start this season without Doyle & McAtee , significantly weaker than last season when we were at a lower level , is just bizarre.

I’m not complaining because we scored in the end, but why on earth didn’t Ndiaye square that to Osula who was completely unmarked ready for a tap in? Strange. Did Osula not scream for it? Even if he didn’t, surely Ndiaye could see him darting into the box.
