Ajax's wage structure is pretty strict: Kluivert reportedly asked for €1.5m per year which would have made him their highest earner. That said, the exposure is higher in the Dutch first division than the English second tier: very few players move anywhere other than within the Championship or the Premier League from the latter but from the former there's well-trodden paths to the Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga and La Liga.

That's before you consider the fact that signing for Ajax means playing for one of the most prestigious clubs in Europe and playing in European competitions.

Exactly, the brand is what makes them attractive, but I believe that will only last so long now as the standard is so poor. Look at the likes of Davy Klassen, looks like a lost boy playing in the Prem and they paid 20-odd million for him.

Well since I'm from Amsterdam, and I'm at least twice a week at Ajax' training ground I think I can settle this dispute ;)

Guys like Ziyech,Neres and De Ligt earn like 1 million a year (only salary) and I think the average pay is around 500-600k. . So in theory Sheffield United could probably match any contract offer but here's the thing: If a player outside the Netherlands joins Ajax, they don't make that decision out of economic perspective, but they choose for their development. They play European football every single year (whether it's CL or EL), they are in the spotlight of every scout in Europe, they play for championships, they have the best facilities in the world.

Players who pick clubs only for money don't go to Ajax, so they are not going to Sheffield United either. It's all about attractiveness.

The reason why Ajax can compete in Europe with a budget like that is mostly because we can sign the biggest Dutch talents, while here at Sheffield United we have to compete with the Manchester clubs, Leeds, pigs and you can go. If Sheffield United was based in the Netherlands, or was the biggest club in the region with this budget it would be a whole different ballgame.

Yep I agree, the prestige of playing for Ajax and being in the european shop window is a huge bonus, Ajax make shit loads of money on a yearly basis through player sales.

However, don't you think the Eredivise is losing some of it's draw? The standard is dropping pretty quickly it seems. Look at the Dutch national side these days, they're terrible.

Yes definitely, level of the Eredivisie went downwards real quick. Dutch national side too, but that's because a lot of talents go abroad when they're 16 or just after 1 season in the first team. Guys like Rekik,Bruma,Fosu-Mensah,Van Velzen,Redan,Malen,Castillo etc. all went to England when they were 16 and it's hard to really develop you when clubs buy so many good players and don't give you a shot in the first team.

I heard from a little bird, just a few minutes ago, that WE are in for a player who is at the WC...............i wonder if its Daniel.

Brooks departs and we are left with no exciting prospect. Someone suggested that we are looking at a player at the World Cup. Put 2 and 2 together and come up with Australian prospect Daniel Arzani a similar type player, more of an out and out winger.
Now, I realise that he plays for a side linked up with Man City, and I see that Juventus are making noises, but he doesn't seem to be interested in either of these. So it would not come as any sort of surprise if we were vaguely interested in bringing him to BDTBL.
He is younger than Brooksy but plays with assurance and not a little bravado, so what do you think?
Or just maybe there is a Portuguese lad on the horizon? Anyone know anything about the Portuguese squad players?

Already "wanted" by AFC Ajax, so impossible. Also, the transfer policy still is Great-Britain only right?
His great great great grandparents were from great Britain, just thieving bleeders, sent on the convict express.
