We could end up with some strong character in the back 4 if this goes through.

We already know Moore is a much more vocal Keeper than we are used to.

We could have Morgan who captained both Wigan and Rotherham to promotion alongside Wright who Oxford fans spoke highly of as a leader and captain.

Not inconceivable these two could be flanked by O'Connell who has captained at a young age and Basham who has worn the armband on occasion.

If we also went for Luke Murphy, then he was also captain at Crewe.

5 put of the first 6 skippers in their own right and all 6 above 6 foot.

Exactly what we need to get out of this division the right way.

Promotions are built on spirit, drive, determination and leadership as much as ability.

We better sign him. That's the most important signing we'll make in this window. I'd give Wallace another crack at left back and get O'Connell next to Morgan at centre half let them grow a partnership.

Wilson and Wright proved they can be very adequate back ups. Still need a lot more in midfield though.

I'm happy with Wilson and Wright as back up centre halves.

I agree Morgan could be a real key signing. Moore, Morgan and O'Connell should be a solid base. O'Connell will be better with someone like that alongside him.

JOC looked ace yesterday at full back with Wright telling him when to stay and go, that's exactly what Morgan would do in the centre.

Keep him at full back if he doesn't trust Wallace and play Morgan and Wilson. Wilson's pace is a big asset for us and I think Morgan and Wright would be too slow - as well as Wright played yesterday.

Lots of good permutations if we sign him anyway.

Would love this signing to come off but after the Morsey pantomime I would be surprised if we have even put in a bid. Not sure if it's someone at our end or just Wigan repeatedly pulling our plonkers?

Any news Sunjihi or Treeton Blade ?

Just that talks were still ongoing after a late hitch on Friday.
Nixon knows his stuff, so it's looking good.

This must be the 'experienced centre half', I was told about last Sunday.
Would be a great signing IMO.

Footnote: He is ONE booking from a suspension, following 4 yellow cards in 5 appearances

If we sign Morgan then I would definitely keep JO'C at left back

Cheers mate. Agree it would be a top signing. Just learnt not to get my hopes up recently but your post is highly reassuring. :)

I would for now but ideally JOC is a long term centre half for us, would like to him to get most of his first team play there.

If Morgan signs he's not coming to warm the bench which means O,connell will be the one to drop out,its a learning curve for him and he looked use full at left back, Morgan is short term so he's a good pro to learn from.I like Wilson and he will do us a good job,we needed pace at the back and he supplies that ,rated him when at Oldham, hopefully in the next few days the team will take shape with a couple more signings.

I am guessing nobody shares the same concern as me, paying so much money for a player to get us out of this league yet not good enough for the division above. Morsy the same. Wigan are and have repetitively moving on from these players.

Too old and win no resale value. The transfer committee didn't last long did it.

We will not sign old players on long contracts. Or players on their way down. This is not the kind of football club Sheffield United now is. Honest.

Think you could do with staying dry for a night old boy.....

You suffer too eh?

Tufty has made it clear that he wants one lefty and one southpaw at CB. That'll be JOC and the new guy. Wilson and Wright look to be more than satisfactory back-up to me.

Make your mind up. I thought you'd joined my NITFK society?

JOC won't drop out, Morgan will be used to compliment him since they're left and right footed respectively.

Someone that's left-footed and uses their left hand too? Yep, that's definitely JOC based on his games so far. I think Wilder probably wants another right-footer though...

A southpaw leads with his right. That's what I meant. Anyway, I know what I meant...

:)

Precisely. JOC did a great job as a makeshift left-back for 45 minutes and that's good to know for future reference. That's a far cry from installing him as our regular LB though. The lad will be a good CB for us once he settles in properly. He needs a 'main man' alongside him though. His role is 'second' CB.
