It is absolutely NOT something Chelsea came up with. Spreading the cost of an asset over its expected useful life, is standard accounting practice. This allows the expense to be matched against the period in which the asset earns income. To write off a player's cost in one season, would be an artificial distortion of the reality of the situation.

What Chelsea did, was to move from the usual 3 or 4 year contracts, to 6, 7 and 8 years.

I'm not sure how you'll manage to blame Wilder for this accounting sorcery, but I'm sure you will find a way.

Stumbled across an Instagram post earlier about this, and a Cov fan was adamant Hamer was a "Box to Box" midfielder, and we are playing him wrong. He kept repeating it too.

I love how you’ve extrapolated that from a poorly worded turn of phrase on a web forum I typed on my phone while on a teams call.

I’ve worked for 20 years in capital purchasing, I know how amortisation and depreciation work, which you clearly don’t as in your example you’ve described depreciation of a tangible fixed asset. You would only amortise an intangible asset which is unrelated to income generated. The incentive for amortisation rather than depreciation is because the UKs Corporate Intangible Assets Regime allows Amortisation to be deducted from corp tax calcs, whereas depreciation isn’t (beyond limited capital allowances anyway).

Amortisation was not commonplace in football until FFP was introduced and accounts needed to be massaged. Regardless of what you think BlueCo were pioneers in pushing the limits of this, to the extent they had to change the rules to stop them.

We have already made a few big money signings including 22.5m on Rushworth that will be finalised any time now. We have players that are not good enough for next season, so bringing in Hamer would be a no brainer if the price is right. We would play him in the middle where he is best.

Problem will be if u only have 30-40% possession in a lot of your games...which you will...Gus is a liability as his defensive attributes are zero, he gives away a lot of fouls and he also gives the ball away a lot. He'd be good off the bench chasing a hame but hes actually a lot better in a top Championship side who see a lot of thr ball.

Obvious why you'd want him back though amd if he moves i for one will wish him all tje best and hope he does well in the PL

You are talking bobbar. Nothing is owed on him, if he goes he goes for better wages and we'll get £8m-£10m back.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago.
He had NEVER played LW in his career until joining United.

Hamer played most of his game as a CDM with Coventry in a 3-4-2-1

Flicking through the filters on TransferMarkt, it suggests he played 131 times in that position and 135 times as a standard CM (132 of those were at Coventry).
He never played on the left for them.

This is his position map over his career. LM, LW, AM & SS are all for United. Right Back and Right Mid are at Zwolle

So it appears United converted him to a LM from a DM... but, his output at United is far better than when at Coventry (and that includes a woeful PL campaign).

I have nothing against Coventry even though your fanbase seems a bit weird but you were above average in a very poor league last year and even with rusworth and the big defender you don't have one single premier league quality player
