Cooper or Dyche

It's such a frustrating question as we already had the perfect antidote on board last season. He'd have only left for a big four club in the future and did a magnificent job all things considered. There really isn't a likely better scenario for us than what we already had. Even if we get a good one we're a short term stepping stone to a WHAM, Everton etc and then you're back playing manager roulette. The one window rebuild last season to make us competitive was miraculous and with another summer building on great foundations, with more permanents... The people calling him in such disrespectful ways throughout last season must feel really embarrassed now.

As frustrating as it is at the moment I'd give Selles another half a dozen games. Sacking managers is expensive and I'd feel even more sick if we'd unnecessarily paid of Wilder and then Selles without even giving him a proper chance. There's not much to hang your hat on so far admittedly... Looking at who might be available if it goes to shit I'd probably go sausage or Cooper . CW won't be back imo. That would take an enormous amount of humility from the owners few people possess.
So might I ask which big 4 clubs would Chris Wilder have left for in the future?

That’s fine mate

Just to clarify I’m not sacking due to 92, I’m letting go because he was going to find it extremely hard getting away with it again

I want to see us as a per prem team, that’s not going to happen under Chris and the evidence based on his time with other championship teams, because Oxford or Northampton were not getting there , that it wasn’t going to happen

And there is absolutely no evidence to suggest any of the the managers touted will have us as a “perm prem team”. It’s cloud cuckoo thinking. The first step is to actually get there. We’re going backwards.

Why would it have to be a big four club? Any more attractive than United is my point. The next successful manager at United will be ripe for the picking then you're back to square one.

That’s fine but fact is we have seen wilder there with us and we saw him last year

Doesn’t matter if cooper or Anceloti or pep hasn’t managed us

We know wilder won’t

I don't understand your point?

You want our next manager to be the one who keeps us in the prem permanently? Have you looked at the league table?

I want us to start the process or build or whatever you wish to call it that leads us to getting up and then staying up like a Brentford/Brighton/palace etc etc

Wilder is not the man imo for that and we need to move away from the bladey blade way to achieve that

You can't get much less Bladey Blade than Selles, unless we're in for Megson.

Dyche would seem like an enormous climb down from the route we've taken. Having sacked CW I really don't want to hire dyche, it'll make it all seem pointless.

Cooper I don't really rate as highly as some do on here, but he'd still be one million times the preference of the two.

Ideally neither

Can we please please please stop thinking Wilder is coming back. Why would he come back? His side that he had last year has been torn to pieces and he just got sacked. Plus the board would simply look idiotic sacking someone to bring them straight back.

The other names people are throwing around won't be coming either.

Which experienced championship managers are currently available or who from lower level European football is highly rated? Then we can have a serious conversation

We’re in agree to disagree territory, which I’m fine with.

Do you think Leeds and Burnley deserved all of their 100 points or were there games they also got away with? Burnley beat Norwich later in the season; apart from a few stupid errors, Norwich should have won. For 70 minutes Leeds didn’t deserve to beat us. Plenty of opportunities to throw that same comment at those teams too

This notion that you’re going to be the best team for every game in a 46 game season just doesn’t hold water. It’s about marginal gains. It’s about getting on the right side of a result in a tight game, which we did after a summer of huge upheaval.

Many managers are incapable of a successful rebuild of the magnitude Wilder managed. Hecky was alright to add on a manage a good set. I’m not sure he could have started from a blank page for example.

Wilder would have had all summer to make gains on his 90 point team. Darling and Dunne were two signings he had in the pipeline and would have been logical additions.

You can point out certain trends but Wilder would have had all summer to offset those trends.

If you think someone deserved sacking after 92 accrued points, then hold that bar to every incoming manager too.
Leeds came up with a lot of late wins too, in particular the Sunderland game in February which gave them great momentum and even Plymouth away to win the league. It would have been interesting to hear what Wilder would have said if the board would have kept him but got rid of Anel, Souza and Moore at the times they did and not sign anyone for 3 weeks. It was a difficult one with Wilder as the objective was clearly promotion, the owners have their objectives and it’s when they want to refresh the SUFC brand. If they had said stay on and try it again are they going against internal discussions but if Wilder had achieved promotion surely they wouldn’t have got rid of him or are they that ruthless? Guess we will never know

Chris Hughton got Brighton promoted and kept them up, not done a right lot since mind you, a few others that are more of the Big Sam mould that we are probably not wanting.

We supposedly started that the moment we sacked Wilder. Check the table.

Might I add, the players who played on Saturday who Wilder brought in, Gus, O’Hare, Burrows, Cooper and Tyrese… do you want to get rid of them in order to “move away from the bladey blade way”?

I don’t need to check the table, Rome wasn’t built in a day, there might not have been a Rome if people shit themselves and said let’s go back to the mud huts

As for moving players on it depends on the system but maybe they thought the way they played last season was pretty meh

We haven’t had a top tier stable side for over 30 years, come back at me with your way when you finally get around to producing one, until that moment let’s keep trying to establish one

Heckie brought in Gus!
