6ft 3 in centre half at Shrewsbury. Just the sort of player i think we need to be looking at, tall, strong and athletic.

Has he done any of the following recently:

- Slagged off his own fans
- Slagged off a well-respected deceased former player
- Played for Derby County
- Suffered a serious long-term injury in the last 24 months

If no to all, then does he have any of the following:

- A fit bird
- Plenty of experience in this league
- A promotion to his name

If yes to all, sign him up

This would be a terrific signing. But do we do terrific signings? If so the fee is gonna be quite a dear one. Still a young lad isn't he? Personally can't see this happening.

Unless we get £2.2m for Jamie.

He's been heavily linked with Bradford recently.

Shrews fans on their forum reckon he's worth £1m, and they turned down "derisory" bids of £175k - £200k for him over the summer. £500/400k + add-ons would probably get him

Fantastic signing if true

Too right, Dan. He'd be top drawer - the sort of young, up-&-coming, already-done-the-business-in-league-two type of signing we never seem to make.

It wouldn't happen, being realistic.

Stop it Alf.....I love him I want him, I love him I want him! Can't we just for once (Brayford and Done apart) sign a shoe-in who'll return the favour and give us no worries in his position?

I'd take losing Murphy to replace him with Goldson and Byrne. Without a doubt.

We would never get Byrne.

Tend to agree. Personally, I'm amazed that a championship club hasn't snaffled him yet.
If by some miracle we did make a serious effort to sign Byrne, it'd be showing real serious ambition.

If we replaced Murphy with Byrne then I would be very happy.

Although us doing something like that is just a pipe dream.

We are going to sell Murphy and his replacement Woolford is already here. Ambition.

Byrne would cost the same if not more than Murphy alone.

I'd have Goldson though any day of the week.

I don't know much about Byrne other than what I saw against us; he's a diving, cheating bastard with a bit of pace. However, I've just read that Murphy scored more goals last season alone than Byrne has in his career. This being the case, why would Byrne be worth more? Even we can't be that bad at negotiating, surely!

Byrne is an attacking right wing back, so I assume he has spent some of his game time actually defending. :)

Sorry but I think Byrne is class and performs way more consistently than Murphy.

He's a quality player IMO and I would snap at the chance of purchasing him.

Byrne seems to have been converted from his previous wing-back position into a forward this season. In his first game in his new position, he hits a hattrick!

Don't think we'd need worry too much about him not scoring goals.

Not playing tonight. Withdrew after picking up "a hamstring injury during the warm-up".

... But, QPR apparently in for him.

Missed the boat on this one. Should've got it done early.

In gutted, I thought he or Mawson would have been the ideal compliment to a more experienced partner at centre half.

While he's clearly not at Turner's level I would have prefered him due to his potential and hunger to play alongside Edgar, but perhaps it was never on the cards, especially if he's gone to Brighton.

Ah well, plenty more fish in the sea.
