Player Suggestion Connor Goldson

Can’t see Wilder signing a defender. Loan Heneghan out, if he’s a genuine contender he can go on loan with a recall clause.

I will add though Matthew the blade that he does seem a CW type player, worked his way up the leagues and Hughton does pay heed to having good lads and good team spirit so not a daft suggestion by any means, just not at this time.

No recalls until Summer for any players we loan out. Personally I think we need another centre half in if Heneghan goes out. We've addressed the problem of lack of bodies in midfield this window but with CCV already gone we run the risk of being light at the back if we get a couple of injuries there. One of the main reasons we missed out on promotion when Ched was sent down resulted from leaving ourselves short of adequate cover up front.

I think someonelike Goldson could be a summer signing

Last year moving up to the championship I’m guessing a few players were a little unsure on signing for the Blades not wanting to end up in League one.

This Summer will be different as players won’t have that in there mind. Which can allow us to bring in players like James Wilson and the players like Goldson.

Not allowed these days I believe - if he goes he goes for the remainder of the season unless he's a GK and is allowed to go on an emergency 7 day loan.

Sky sports claiming Rangers are looking to sign the centre back for £2m. If Brighton are willing to let him go for that, we really should be putting a bid in. Quality player at championship level.

Surprised he'd be available for that amount. If he is then he's definitely one we should (and probably will) consider.

I very much doubt Utd will be paying £2m for anyone this summer, especially for a player who recently suffered a heart scare.

Paid a million for a player last close season. Don't need as many players this time round and supposedly have more to spend.

I'll be disappointed if we don't spend 2 million at least once this close season.

Agree, we definitely need experience and quality if we're to lift ourselves over the line. One or two decent forwards, perhaps one commanding central defender, a goalkeeper in case JB isn't persuaded to return, and possibly one more defender to compete with fullbacks or wing-backs. If we get quality in those positions anything else is a bonus.

I also think wilder may have said what he said to stop other clubs taking the piss with asking prices, can’t just say he’s got more to spend he’s said that to our fans but been methodical about it in the media.

Prepared to be disappointed then!!

Well CW said recently
We're looking for quality additions now, we're not going to be making big changes, given a lot of players have got that last year under their belt.
So I’m also in the camp that reckons we’ll spend more than £2m on (more than) one player

Agreed...also the better players in the team will be watching what we do as sign of our ambition. The likes of Fleck, JOC and Brooks will want to see that we are serious about challenging for promotion otherwise we risk losing them.

Resurrecting a very old thread…
Currently playing in Cyprus, rumour on X/Twitter that he was at the game today, and is signing?

Anel and Robinson are likely to be the first choice pairing so an experienced defender that is happy to be a squad player would be ideal.

If Goldson is happy to come in as a backup then, he could be a decent addition.

I'd hope that whoever we sign as a centre back will be as a first choice. If we're just signing a 32 year old currently playing in Cyprus than even I as one of the most optimistic of Blades fans would be very disappointed with the level of ambition. And I was positive on the prospect if Barnes signing I may add!

Yep, I think this would be an odd decision to say the least. League One club maybe.

To me, he’d be a signing similar to Craig Short, Ciaran Clark and Martin Cranie from previous promotion season.

Dependable and can do a job when called upon, but won’t be playing every week.

That's fine but we need someone to come into the back four better than Robbo essentially, with all due respect to Robbo.

That's fair (and that's my view of Barnes fwiw), I just don't think Goldson is it. He's been playing in Cyprus and before that a lower quality league in the SPL (rofl). I'd be happy with someone like those you flag though.

Feckin Aldi if true, same old (excuse pun)

Pair him up with Barnes and bring Sharp back, typical Wilder

With these sort of rumours wouldnt it be amazing if anyone in the crowd had a phone with a camera on it , just to prove he was at the game. I know almost no one has one of these things, but it would show if the rumour could be verified

That’s the question, I’ve no idea whether he’d be good enough at this stage of his career.

If he does sign, hopefully the recruitment team have got it right.
