Nevertheless, the worry is that someone like Palace go in for him as Holloway wanted him for Blackpool.

I tend to think the contract is signed though, we just don't have the player registration.

The Blades have moved quickly in the January transfer window, bringing in Jamie Murphy from Motherwell for an undisclosed fee.

Murphy, equally comfortable on either wing or a central striker's role, has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Bramall Lane. He joins Danny Higginbotham, who signed on New Year's Day.

Glasgow-born Murphy has been capped at both U19 and U21 level for Scotland and had made close to 200 appearances at Fir Park since making his Motherwell debut at the beginning of the 2006/07 season.

This season Murphy has been in excellent form in the SPL, scoring 11 times in 28 appearances for Stuart McCall's side, including five goals in his last five outings.

On recruiting Murphy, Blades boss Danny Wilson added: "We are absolutely delighted to have secured a deal to bring Jamie to Sheffield United because the lad is a real talent.

"He is quick, strong on the ball and a good runner in possession. He will put defenders on the back foot and will offer us great versatility in forward positions.

"Jamie has a real eye for goal and will give us that bit extra quality in the final third that we need to unlock some stubborn League One defences."

Murphy completed proceedings on his Blades deal after playing his final game for Motherwell, captaining the side in the SPL fixture against Celtic on Wednesday.

This really does sound like an excellent bit of business and is certainly what we have been missing. Murphy & Kitson up top, Blackman & Flynn on the wings, Whitehouse & McD in the middle then a back 4 of Hill, Higgin, Maguire & Mcmahon, with Long in goal.
Really don't see a stronger team in this division..

Well done on the signing of young Murphy, he's a cracking wee player.

One thing I will say though, is that he can be inconsistent at times, but if you stick with him he'll deliver the goods. He was an excellent player for us since coming through the ranks and making his debut at 17. We're hopeful we see him back at Fir Park one day, and that his move to Sheffield will see him get some Scotland call-ups in the future.

Can only echo what Steelman has put above. He has been the model professional at Fir park, he's a tireless worker and if things aren't going his way he just gets his head down and works harder. He will do you proud, just give him the time to settle and he'll be banging them in. You've just got the bargain of the month in the January sales!!!

Nothing here other than the suggestion that Porter would be the candidate. Apparently one unnamed player is in talks to depart but there won't be announcement until it's done.

If true, don't worry too much about people on here slagging Porter off. He's not the most gifted but he's the sort of player who will do the hard yards for a quicker, more direct strike partner. If you've got such a partner for him, great. If not, he's not the player to buy.

Porter did a good job for us 5 years ago along with Ross McCormack, but tbh injuries have probably put his best days behind him and we've got a big lad, Michael Higdon doing what Porter used to do except better...

Porter by the sounds of it isn't the same player he was when he was at Motherwell - very much more the stronger/target man type than one that plays off that type of player. Which from what I gather is similar to Higdon, so I don't think it would make sense for Macca to replace Murphy with Porter. Given Dave Kitson's less than reliable fitness, I'd be sorry to see Porter leave - he's put in some consistently decent performances this season.

Wilson said on Radio Sheff that Shrewsbury have enquired about McAllister. No offers received for any other players yet.
