JAMIE MURPHY will travel for talks with Sheffield United this week.

The Motherwell striker waved farewell to home fans after netting in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock.
Boss Stuart McCall later admitted he was resigned to losing the talented 23-year-old to an English club when the January window opens.
SunSport can reveal the Blades, who previously had bids turned down, look to be that club.
Their boss Danny Wilson has long been an admirer of the former Scotland Under-21 star.
He made him one of his key winter targets as he seeks added firepower in a bid for a return to the Championship.
United sit second in League One, a point behind leaders Tranmere.
Murphy is expected to head to Bramall Lane in the coming days to talk terms and then undergo a medical.
But it’s also likely he’ll play for Well at Celtic on Wednesday before moving.
Murphy, thought to have featured on Rangers boss Ally McCoist’s list of out-of-contract targets, snubbed the chance to join Blackpool when Well accepted an offer for him a year ago.

No way is it that much. They only wanted 200000 for him. Mind you with our record of negotiating you may be right
 
Well McCall has managed to get a picture of this lad in nearly every paper I'll be surprised if nobody else comes in before he is signed for us.If he is signing why would he be allowed to play against Celtic ,a chance to be in front of the cameras.
 
Jamie Murphy is back training with Motherwell having held talks with League One club Sheffield United.

The 23-year-old forward is out of contract in the summer, having come through Well's youth system.

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall told his club website: "If negotiations and discussions have gone well then he'll probably sign for Sheffield United."
However, Motherwell are hopeful that Murphy will play against league leaders Celtic on Wednesday.

Murphy will have further talks with Motherwell after training on New Year's Day.
"They're a great club and, if he does go, he goes with our greatest wishes," McCall said of the Blades. "Jamie is a model professional, even for somebody so young. He is an excellent player, no doubt about that.

"For me, Sheffield United are a Championship club at least. I had five great years there and it looks like, hopefully, they'll get promoted and become a Championship club next year.
"He'll certainly be in the side for the game against Celtic."

McCall is hopeful Murphy will be Motherwell's only January departure.
"The board since I've been here have been very good to me and always gone by their word," he added.

"Who knows what can happen in a month? If the club were to get a really good offer for a player then we'd have to look at it. You can never say never.
"I understood we would have to lose one player in the window. We probably decided it would be better to be Jamie for the fact that we would get nothing for him in the summer.
"At this moment in time, I'd be confident I'd be only losing Jamie."

Rob Staton tweeting DW has said it's a done deal, but can't be officially done till Jan 3rd when international window opens, which is why he's available for Motherwell tomorrow against Celtic.

Motherwell's Jamie Murphy deserves transfer, says Chris Humphrey
Motherwell forward Jamie Murphy deserves a likely transfer to Sheffield United , says team-mate Chris Humphrey.

Murphy has held talks with the League One club about a January transfer.
And Jamaica international Humphrey believes the 23-year-old's impressive form has earned him the move.

"He has been terrific for the four years that I have been here. I think it's a long time overdue. He has done terrifically well and I wish him all the best," said Humphrey.
And the former Shrewsbury Town winger thinks that Murphy, should his Motherwell career end in Wednesday's match away at Celtic as expected, will depart the Fir Park club on a high.

"I'm sure it will be emotional for him and I'm sure it was emotional for his last home game," he said.
"Obviously we will see him for the game on Wednesday, but he deserves everything he gets because he has been fantastic."

And, despite already scoring an impressive nine goals in his last 13 games from midfield, Humphrey believes Murphy can improve further.
"I think he can be unbelievable," he said.
"He has always had the right head on him to do well and I think he can go on to big things."

if the bloke is THAT good,why the hell is he coming to league 1?i find it bizaare,i know scottish football is a total waste of oxygen,but if the hype about this lad lives upto expectations we`ll be promoted by the end of march!

I just can't see this move coming off. Surely if it was a done deal then he wouldn't be anywhere near Celtic Park today.

He wont sign for us.
 
Murphy tripped for a penalty. The penalty was missed, but not by Murphy, who I'm assuming was too injured to take it...

Apparently cross-border signings can't be completed until tomorrow, so there's nothing sinister.

Of course there's still the chance of another club hijacking the deal, but we'll find out soon enough.
 
Rangers, Huddersfield or us... See pros and cons to each. Decent player, hope he's chosen / chooses us.
 
But that still doesn't explain why he is playing today....remember Beattie and his bought of flu.....

I'm looking from Blades tinted glasses now as I'd like to see him here;

Hudders will come down and we'll go up. Plus they are a 'smaller club'.

Rangers - got to climb back up and he wants to play in England...
