Hoping it's a part ex, for Beckford or Snodgrass.
If it is though, why has nowt been mentioned?
Somebody must be coming in the next 7 days surely.

just let all know, Blackwell offered weeds Bromby, Sharpe & some cash for Beckford ____

BUT he wants to go to Newcastle and that is no shit! got that from snoddin relative

well can't say I'm too bothered if he goes but surely that means we've someone coming in. e won't be getting beckford for sure.

Clearly Bromby's agent has engineered the move and as McCabe said we are powerless to stop these pesky agents from taking our players away!

UTB

oh no not Bromby! :)

Really couldnt give a monkeys aslong as a replacement comes in and who ever comes in will play 2nd fiddle to Killa.

I find this baffling. We could have just let him go back after the loan last year, but instead we sign him to a new deal, and now we are looking to sell him before he's played a game? What are we doing, laundering money or something?

A Leeds fan told me weeks ago that he'd heard a deal had been sorted for Billy plus cash for Snodgrass but that was before we bought Treacy in. Maybe his injury has resurrected the move but it seems a long shot.

I still can't believe Blackie was talking about CB cover only last week and then lets Bromby go with the threat of Killa going on top of that. Do we have any CBs in the academy or just right backs ?

When we signed bromby on loan we had a binding agreement to sign him permanently in the summer so we had to go through with that.
Agree we need two centre halves now, even if killa stays, however you are talking about two who will be back up, for his faults (and there are a fair few) bromby did play that back up role ok.
I will be disapointed if we don't sign 4 players in next few weeks, I do expect majority to be loans

Mmmmm, intrigue! What is the plan? If Fortune has been abandoned (no apologies for that pun :) ) and Bromby does go, what next? Walker can more than cover at centre back (he'll finish up replacing Ferdinand in the England team - there's a prediction!!) and we have a surfeit of right-backs coming through to fill in there. Alternatively Sam Wedgbury is another who could float into the squad as centre-back cover.

As for signing a replacenment, I wouldn't be surprised if we throw a bit of money towards a club desparate for some cash, struggling a bit to break even because season ticket sales failed to reach the target and their gates aren't what the chairman was expecting!

Why can't we assume that the club treats it's players correctly and imforms them of any approach made along the lines of:

KB We've had an approach from Leeds. We don't want you to go but you are only cover here, at Leeds you will probably be a regular. What do you think?

LB Well boss at my age I need to play games not hang around waiting for a chance so I'll go and have a chat with them. If it doesn't come off I appreciate the fact that I'm wanted here.

??????????????

Don't worry, Blackwell has it covered, with a French striker and a Swedish midfielder who are on trial with us. That's about the best we can do at present.

I remember that lot at S6 having a French striker on trial. They didn't sign him though. I wonder what happened to that lad.

Blackwell better have a replacement or two lined up.

He's just rejoined us and we are already short of cover at the back. I'm struggling to figure this one out.

How much did we actually pay for him the other month?

This is great business, sell a guy for £600k buy him back for next to nothing and then sell him again for another nice profit.
I would imagine that this major squad trimming also has something to do with our lack of a reserve team, players that aren't playing in the 1st team are just not going to get any games at all.
As long as Killa stays then I don't really see the problem as Walker can cover at CB. We have 2 LB's when Nay is back and a couple of versatile players that can cover at RB. Midfield is well populated and we have 4 strikers. Don't see that the squad has to be bigger just maybe of a higher standard. It will be interesting to see what Williamson can do or if Hendrie gets a chance beofre I get too worried. Defence is solid and once Evans gets settled I think that we will score goals as long as we utilise the wingers that we have.
Overly optimistic??

Not much, he left football early and now does films or something.

Now whatever happened to that Argentine we were too stingy to buy? He came to nothing, right?

Why don't we just not bother with contracts anymore and have players on pay as you play deals? They're clearly not doing any good if we can't hold on to the players we have.

Funny how it doesn't seem to happen to other clubs quite so much, though.

We should never have re-signed him in the first place.

The same should go for Brown & Tonge as well.

It does happen to almost all clubs as much, maybe even more than it does to us. Difference is the Blades fans have a very strong paranoid streak! :D

I'm sorry, I don't believe it does. Other teams hang onto their players for slightly longer when the bids come in. Are our contracts not as good as those from other clubs? Or are we that short-sighted that cold, hard cash always comes out above keeping a player?

Time and again we're told that players have the power. In that case, why don't they have the power to come to us? Are we that unattractive a proposition? If so, why? And should we not be looking at changing that? If Leeds - a club in the third tier of English football - can poach our players away, there's something wrong there. Wigan's bad enough, but at least they're in the Premiership, for now.

How are Leeds "poaching" our players?

Bromby is a back up player at the Lane and probably isn't on that much money. Leeds can probably match that money (or offer him a bit more) and give him first team football, almost certainly a longer contract and a good chance of being back in the 2nd tier next season. United will probably make a tidy profit on the sale and perhaps free up some money for other signing(s).

United are happy, Leeds are happy and Bromby is happy. I don't see a problem.

The problem lies with a shortage of defensive cover. Bromby may not be everyone's (or anyone's) pick to start a game but he's handy to have on the bench. If it goes through we'll just have to see who KB brings in, be it an academy player or a new signing.

Exactly. And if what you say is true, Darren - what was the point of signing him in the first place?

Is that what we've become - not a football team with hopes and aspirations of its own, but a business that provides players to other teams?

Let's just cut out the middleman - fold the team, keep the academy and a bunch of agents, and see how much money we can make in human traffic. At least we'll never lose then.

It'll probably be a lad from the academy as we are definitely NOT going to sign anyone before Tuesday

Bromby wants to play games, rather than being on the bench at this stage in his career.

Means he'll probably sign for Leeds if the financials are right :)
