Compared with last season...

That first half was as good a 45 minutes as I've seen in years at the Lane. Near perfect. 100 League goals, Billy just one away from his ton and another brace for Leon. A bloke said to me at HT 'I didn't think it would be that easy.' I replied 'It isn't easy, Bradford are at the top of their game, but we're simply too good for them.' That's about the standard I expect in the Championship next season. Bring it on!

Derby v Huddersfield confirm that.

Right. Opinions required. Just as it was pointless to do a 'Compared with last season' for the season just gone and the Adkins debacle, I've been wondering how to fill the long, boring days until next season. :) So I've done this:

upload_2017-5-8_8-40-55.png

Taking the team who just missed out on the play-offs (Leeds in 7th) and the team who just avoided relegation (Forest in 23rd - these are their actual results), this could be called the 'safe zone' and one which we must realistically look to occupy next season.

I've made up United's results up to the season's halfway point and, as next season progresses, it will show if we need to fear sliding into the drop zone or could mount a promotion challenge.

So, is there any value in this?

I quite like that Graf.

Will look great when the little red line has peaked above the yellow one as well.
But a decent indicator of where we are, although the issue at that level is how close it is. One run of 4 defeats in 5, and no win in five and you drop like a stone into the mire from a seemingly good position near the top ten.

I think there is value in this, though I'd rather not finish 23rd if you don't mind. Seriously graf, standards are slipping!

:p:p:p

Is a bloke allowed to get pissed on a bank holiday? Here ya go:

Somehow missed that when you did it. That is actually unbelievable. Can you imagine predicting that at the beginning of the season and how much stick you'd have got? Almost a third more points than we got the previous season. It's going to be a hard act to follow.

I'd change the Leeds line to Fulham. I'm not saying we've got a chance of Play-offs next season but it would be good to see how we compare with those who got play-offs this season.

Get Newcastle on there too!

This is what I feared...anyone for Brighton? Blackburn? Wigan? As Nyb says, keep it simple. Stupid. :D

I agree, keep it simple. Just compare the teams in the main positions i.e. 2nd, 6th and 22nd.

I totally agree that simplicity is best.

Although you could perhaps add:

7th - the point at which you miss the playoffs
8th - last place in the top third of teams
9th - would show how we compare with the 2007/8 team
10th - Billy's shirt -natch!
11th - legs eleven
12th - just scraping in the top half
13th - the point where you miss the top half
14th - two fat ladies
15th - on its own
16th - bottom of top two thirds
etc etc etc

A pity there isn't an update for this season. Last season at this stage we had one point, this season we have three. By my calculations we are on course to getting 102 points this season. Up The Blades!

Going back a bit now and gonna have to do some digging but maybe compare this season to the team that got relegated from the Championship?

46 points after last night. :( This is why stats., tables etc. are unreliable with such a small sample size. After we beat Brentford, we were on course for 138 points over the season. After the defeat at Middlesbrough, we were looking at a projection of 69 points. After Cardiff, we've got three points from three games, ergo 46 points over this season.

I'm working on it. I see what you mean but, as we all know, the Championship now is a different beast to 2010/11 when we were last relegated from the Championship. For example, Palace, Leicester and Swansea were in the Championship that season. Just as I changed the format last season to comparing 2016/17 to season 2011/12 as comparing last season to Adkins' diabolical effort would be futile, this year I've decided to compare United this season to last season (2016/17) in the Championship. (I don't think we'll get 100 points this season...) It's what I call the 'safe zone'

Obviously, I'm open to suggestions. I've really got nowt better to do...:D

Be good to keep this thread going, but maybe comparing us to our unprecedented season last year will get depressing. I agree that our last season in the Championship would be interesting and hopefully will cheer us up that things aren't that bad. Yes it is different to six years ago, but we shouldn't fall for Wednesday fans propaganda that it is La Ligaesque! :)
