Well the good news is that although we are now at the same level as the pigs when they were shit ...they are at our level and losing play offs

Well done to Mr Wilder for doubling our squads average age by signing Mr Clarke.
Fingers crossed this signing pays off!!!

Be a good signing if he gets anywhere near this L1 career average.

Wouldn't mind some younger signings now tho. We are looking very much a L1 side (appreciate we are) but there's not much unfulfilled potential if we did somehow manage to go up.

Personally I would like to sign some more experienced players not less. GK, CM and arguably CB are 3 positions where we could use well seasoned heads. Out wide is where we can afford some promising youthful enthusiasm.

I hear your point about potential (or lack of) in the squad but I think we need to focus on promotion at any cost now. CW has already given us 1 clearout, no reason he couldn't do the same preparing for our first season back in the championship.

Thank fuck we are looking a league 1 side . They win league 1 and get promoted .

Unfilled potential never gets you promoted . Finally we are doing things right .

I can't understand some fuckers me Blades fans moan like fuck about goalscorers in the past Beattie Blackman McNulty and Adams have all been criticised on here but they score GOALS and they win games

Whist useless splay footed twats like Mongy, Doyle, Collins et al are lauded as heroes cos they tried !!!!!!!

Fuck me

Yeah, I'm more than on board if these guys turn into the spine of a really strong L1 side. We've tried everything but buying good L1 players to get out of the league. And we've clearly not got the funds to be shopping for future stars

And as has been said no guarantees with potential, just when I look at the side there aren't that many I think would be comfortable a level above.

Exactly! How are we going to entice 'unfulfilled potential' to us that are still good enough to get us promoted? The 4 I can think of are the Wallaces, Adams and Cuvelier...and, arguably, O'Connell to be fair.

Give me promotion any day of the week over a youthful team that might do it in a year or two but will inevitably have been sold by then anyway.

Sign the best from the division you're in to get promoted, ain't that what we've been crying out should happen for a good few years now? In Clarke, Fleck, Duffy and O'Connell we've done exactly that.

I am guessing the line-up Wilder would like to play would be:

Long
Brayford Wilson O'Connell Hussey
Basham Fleck
Adams Sharp Duffy
Clarke

I'd like a new GK, RCB, Basham replacement and winger as inevitably Adams is gonna go and I don't rate Done enough to play him there. The most important being a new goalkeeper imo but not sure one sounds very high up on Wilders list, certainly after a new CB and CM.

Incidentally can anyone think of a good league one winger we could try and use Done as part-exchange for? With DCL and McNulty and our likely formation I see him as surplus to requirements and a decent bargaining chip.

I personally won't believe it's happened until I receive the official text message.

Do we still do those?

best choice of forwards since we have been in this league?

sharp, clarke and mcnulty are proven goal scorers. The first two have found it easy to net in this league time and time again. Have the three fight eachother for a spot and chuck DCL in the mix.

with these options id be more then happy to sell adams for the reported fee and use the money (hopefully) to really finish off the team. A new CB is a must.and one or two midfield players would be nice. But only quality, stand out players.we have enough "ok" players.

I actually believe a GK should be a higher priority then it is. Our downward spiral has coincided with our recent history of poor goalkeepers. They can easily make the difference in promotion or midtable.

Bang on

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've done it far too often. Let's concentrate on what's needed to be getting out of this blood league. We can worry about the rest later

If anyone incorporates "clarkey" into the follow follow song this season, I'm supporting someone else.

Is this the same Leon Clarke?

Sorry if already mentioned and I missed the reference.

Far from excited by this one. Old, no Resale value, bit of a cock by all accounts and he's an ex Wednesday player! (The last one never bothers me too much, but it's an extra point in my post all the same!)

It seems a bit of a 'same owd' signing for me. Another 'solid' league 1 signing, who has 'been there and done it' but you would say the same for McEveley, Woolford, Campbell Ryce et al. I can see is giving him a 3 year deal and then having the issue of trying to get rid of him in a year's time... And the cycle continues.

this is also a signal that we would have to play 4-4-2 to incorporate Clarke. Again, this is fine, but we return to the problem of not having 2 CMs capable of playing in a midfield 2.

Not bad as a squad player, or a 'last 15 minutes' player, but not the type to build a team around for a 46 game season IMO. Still desperate for a winger and a CM. (And perhaps a CB is the reports I read are correct)

Well we should have got Clarke in the January when we were top two and let Blackman go, instead the board decided to rely on Kitson and loaning Forte and Wilson paid for their Idiocy with his job.

Let's hope he still has two good seasons in him to get us up, if he has this could be an excellent piece of business

I went out at 4.15 with the sentiments of one moaning poster ringing in my ears about the apparent lack of transfer movement. I return at 20.08 to find that we may have signed Clarke! Until it's official I'll not say too much, but I do hope those who suffer from acute impatience find something to do that doesn't border on casting aspersions in the direction of our manager simply because their appetite for information isn't being served.

We now have a front two with more than 250 league goals between them.

With some attacking intent supporting them from midfield, there is no reason why we can't push on.

Not sure if we're good enough in midfield or at the back yet but if we sell Adams, we should have the cash to fix that.

Our bench should now be stronger, Adkins had virtually no one to call upon who could change a game.

Hopefully we can consign the negative dull football of the last few seasons to the bin.

I'm almost looking forward to the season now.

We are in league 1 for the 6th season. Established club at this level . We like it or like it not , Clarke is the right player , at the right time , for the right money .

Forget resale value on certain players , we just need there expertise and experience this season to make a meaningful challenge for automatic promotion.

Still a number of players short , tactical formation - leave it to Wilder , the bloke will not let us down

No arguments on his ability, but is he the big bossing forward we need? Not sure on that one myself, but i hope he can be.
