I have never seen a football manager's contract but it would be pointless giving someone a 3 year contract but allowing you to pay them off with 6 months wages. This would give the manger no security - only the club - who could receive compensation if the manager is "poached" by another club as happened when CW was appointed by us. Of course if a manager has a 3 year contract and is paid off after one year he will not get the full 2 years salary as a pay off as it will be discounted for accelerated payment and the possibility he may get other employment. There will also be tax implications. It is pretty unusual for a manger to get another job before he has received his pay out. This is for the very reason that his pay out will be reduced so he will be advised not to take another managerial appointment in the meantime. My point is that I cannot recall hearing of a case where a club refused to pay off a manager or pay a reduced rate on the grounds of his incompetence.
That's because they're rarely incompetent. Some club has to get relegated. How would you prove incompetence? And I didn't address that particular point as I wasn't replying to you.

And I've heard ex managers in interviews explaining exactly what I've said about 'six month clauses'. Why would a manager go on national radio and lie about it?

Both Adkins and Clough agreed their final compensation packages from their previous clubs just before they joined us; there was a delay because Clough wouldn't agree his until his staff's compensation was agreed and Adkins was on gardening leave at Reading, being paid monthly, until he joined us.

Unfortunately managers are frequently incompetent - we have had a few over the years - but it is usually difficult to prove. However giving Hammond the option for another year (as opposed to the club having the option) seems pretty good evidence of incompetence for a start.

There's a big difference legally between not being great at your job and being incompetent. Otherwise, about 70% of our workforce would be deemed incompetent.

And any manager's defence would be that he failed because his employers were incompetent and then you'd have a court case where all the stupid things a board does, all the petty disagreements etc would be exposed to the world.

He is a true blade, a proper manager, good touch at the end, nice punch of the badge and apparently he has a lovely Blades badge tattoo under that game winning tracksuit.

Nice to have a manager that cares.

UTB!!!

Have a good one
Was chatting to him this morning, really filled me with confidence, great guy!

I place quite a bit of significance on this comment from Freeman about Wilder:

“The gaffer showed with his tactics that he knows what he’s doing, and he’s a great motivator too."

There was never any sort of comment like that about Adkins next season. When the manager shows he knows what he's doing tactically, the players will start to trust him and listen to him, and that's important. The players clearly had no respect for the manager last season and we saw what happened.

Sky kept comparing him to Warnock and Bassett, which is a bit unfair. But I hope he takes lessons from both of them. One thing they both did was to cultivate an close, tight atmosphere in the dressing room that made players want to play for each other and the team. Warnock and Bassett also knew how to wind down the tension and have a laugh too, favoring outings instead of training once in a while etc. Hope Wilder has a lighter side. He comes off as very much a disciplinarian in his interviews.

I think it's a bit unfair as well. Tufty wants us to play football.

If that was the Sky comments from there reporters , commentators , they do not know any better . They read off a script trying to show some knowledge of the clubs playing especially when it's league 1 fill in time .

Wilder in my view is more professional than the Harry Colin comparison . Also fuck me the game has moved on since then .

We complain of local radio and co presenters Keith Edwardsc, John Pearson , but at least they are passionate and know there local football .

Gillingham fans were very surprised with the skill , pace and energy of our players , which made a refreshing change backhanded compliment . What are we going to be like when we actually gel as a team .

I noticed that the Sky commentators kept rubbing it in about how long we had been in League One!

What they said is that CW had mentioned in an interview that our most successful periods in modern times had been under Harry and Neil (fuck this Colin shit, that's what the pigs call him) when we moved the ball forwards quickly and that's what CW wants to do, play the game in their half.

Given we're the biggest club to be in L1 for this length of time it's a valid talking point.

It would be good to have a manager who can actually get us promoted. Until then, I'll not be kissing someone's ring on the basis of him being a 'true Blade'.

Bush , please except my apologies . I will never call Neil , Colin ever again . :D

I like how Wilder conducts himself, his obvious passion and determination to get it right and whilst he's done all his managing in the lower leagues, his persona gives me the distinct impression he's a winner

I for one am right behind him. I was last week when we hadn't won a game and I'm even more convinced about him now

Don't forget his job hasn't just been to put together a competitive side. It's had to be done on the back of reducing the squad numbers, reducing the wage bill and at the same time as trying to change the whole ethos of the club and staff in terms of attitude

I think he's getting there. It will take time. There'll be more downs as well as ups, but he's the man to do it
