What's up with people?
Just my initial honest reaction. I've always been a Wilder supporter. What he's done for the club is immense and he'll probably always be my favourite United manager. But realistically, when new owners come in, how long do incumbent managers last? And from Wilder's point of view now, it's a precarious place. Get promoted, then he's probably fucked. We'll struggle, and he isn't really up to it at that level. Don't get promoted, then we go into next season on a downer, and it'll probably get harder. On top of that, there's the performances and style of play. The fans are bored of it. So if it doesn't bring success, it won't end well

This is a great day in our history

Watch Wilder build a dynasty that will be felt for generations. ❤️
Well he didnt do that a few years ago. He pissed his dream team off and failed to focus on attack suffering a very bad relegation dumped on Paul H.

Would have earned more respect had he stayed to the end. I dont doubt his commitment, but his methodology at the moment regarding playing style is poor. He needs to adapt. I think the deal smacks of naivety on the part of COH. Should have waited till the Spring.

Wasn't his fault that was on the chairman not able to fund the team.

Great news for the longevity of this club. That summer rebuild on a strict budget plus having a team second in the league when he started on -2 is why he fully deserves the new deal.

Having a manager with less than 6 months left on his deal going into a promotion race isn’t ideal for anyone.

What id like to see us improve on is wins in big games now. We need to step up against Leeds and Burnley, he’s got the squad for it now. No excuses
Not without a CB he hasnt. That may happen but I wont hold my breadth.

Shame really. Was hoping we would go the way of Villa and Forest and get a modern manager at some point.

At least if Mr Wilder gets us up then takes us back down there is money there to be made.

Can’t wait to see more overpriced and average British players come to the Lane.

Arthur Arbuckle should be his first signing.
Can’t believe we didn’t put in a cheeky bid for Emery personally.

Well, when you put it like that...

What he's achieved in a short space of time, given the situation he walked in to, is pretty phenomenal.

Were you off school when they did maths ?

January 25 to summer 28 is three & a half years
Have you actually read this thread numpty? It's been clarified as 3 years already. His current contract doesn't end at the end of January 2025. It ended in the summer, hence it's 3 years.

Brewster, McBurnie, Berge.

Outstanding business with Brewster sold on to Arsenal for £35m got 12 full England caps, Berge to Spurs for £27m and following McBurnie's four goals for Scotland in the Euros sold on to Athletic Bilbao for £22m.

We never learn do we….lose in the play offs, have a rubbish start to next season….and then he gets a payout….
Wilder wasn’t going anywhere regardless of what division we were in….totally unnecessary (see also Tom Cannon).
I did think the new owners being American would suggest they were business savvy….how wrong you can be

Meh, If he gets us to the PL and keeps us there then it’s justified. If he doesn’t then he won’t make it until 2028.

Hopefully he sticks to this one and doesn’t use media speculation to renegotiate a new, improved one every year like last time.
Have you considered changing your name to Houston Negative Blade?

I’m not overly enamoured by this news. Apologies for having an opinion that differs from yours. I’ve stated previously why I don’t think Wilder is the best long term manager for us, fully appreciate there are others who disagree with me, my reasons are:

- I don’t think Wilder is the man to spend money on the rebuild we need, he’s a wheeler dealer and has done much better with little or no money available.

- I don’t like his approach to foreign signings (or his lack of foreign signings), I don’t think he can hide behind the ‘culture’ argument for much longer, he bottled lightning with the L1 to 9th placed PL team, it’s unlikely to happen again without broadening his horizons a bit.

- I don’t think he’s going anywhere because his reputation in the game above our level is non-existent after Boro and Watford.

- The current football we’re playing is attritional and boring, Hecky’s promotion season was said to be dull, this is much worse. Granted, Hecky had Ndiaye.

He’s my favourite Blades manager in my 30+ years of watching the Blades but I don’t think Wilder mk2 is anything special and I’m convinced that it’s parochiality that causes a lot of our fans to be blinkered when it comes to his failings.

And then you woke up... oh fuck!

like others have said I get the impression these new owners aren’t gonna mess around.

There will be reviews built in to the contract period so that if certain milestones aren’t met he will be gone.

I would imagine there’s a very good chance if we aren’t promoted this year he won’t be here next.

Great news. There isn't really a likely scenario where he wouldn't be here until the end of next season. It'd have to be a Championship mid table finish/relegation battle if we're being run properly.

If we go up he'd get at least the following season after relegation to try and get us back up up if we went down. If we're somehow still in the Prem only a complete moron would sack him. That'd be the time to be worried about the ownership imo. Two years are necessary for basic stability, attracting and keeping players, and general medium to long term planning. I'm hoping this is a sign we have sober custodians with realistic plans already in place for multiple scenarios, rather than the entitled, unrealistic, trigger happy fans we seem to have picked up.
Absolutely no way they stick with him if we are promoted and not picking up enough points by Xmas … these lads a tree by here to mess about

Difficult to begrudge him of it because of where we are and what he’s achieved but I think Houston’s summary is on point. If anything it looks like an advanced golden handshake to me.
