Chris Wilder new contract

He’s earned it against the odds to get us where we are. If we get promoted this season I think it will be a decision the new owners will soon regret if there’s no get out clause.

His current contract doesn't run out at the end of this month.

Great news for the longevity of this club. That summer rebuild on a strict budget plus having a team second in the league when he started on -2 is why he fully deserves the new deal.

Having a manager with less than 6 months left on his deal going into a promotion race isn’t ideal for anyone.

What id like to see us improve on is wins in big games now. We need to step up against Leeds and Burnley, he’s got the squad for it now. No excuses
Managers manage better in the last year of their contract……well that’s what some Saudi bloke once told me.

Deserves it and I don't think it's excessive. He needed tying down for the stability it gives our players as much as anything else.

Brilliant news

Meh, If he gets us to the PL and keeps us there then it’s justified. If he doesn’t then he won’t make it until 2028.

Hopefully he sticks to this one and doesn’t use media speculation to renegotiate a new, improved one every year like last time.

Stability is far better for any club and manager

How are we anymore stable now Wilder has this contract?

I don’t think anyone would be surprised if he’s gone in less than a year, that’s very much a possibility if we are promoted.

There is no such thing as stability when it comes to football clubs and their managers.

Looking forward to Football Heaven: “Chris Wilder has signed a new 3 year contract, keeping him at the Lane until 2028. Should be a lot to talk about, so, Sheffield Wednesday fans, please call in and tell us exactly how long a contract YOU think Danny Rohl should get, based on his miraculous achievements.”

Shame really. Was hoping we would go the way of Villa and Forest and get a modern manager at some point.

At least if Mr Wilder gets us up then takes us back down there is money there to be made.

Can’t wait to see more overpriced and average British players come to the Lane.

Arthur Arbuckle should be his first signing.

I’d have thought a 12 month extension would have been plenty..
We never learn do we….lose in the play offs, have a rubbish start to next season….and then he gets a payout….
Wilder wasn’t going anywhere regardless of what division we were in….totally unnecessary (see also Tom Cannon).
I did think the new owners being American would suggest they were business savvy….how wrong you can be

Why does everyone think all Americans are business savvy?!

I’d say most businessmen who have accumulated enough wealth to invest in a football club are ‘business savvy’ regardless of their nationality or country of residence. There are those like Chansiri who are rich through family ties and those who are just government backed like Newcastle but it doesn’t make them more or less savvy than Americans!

Or alternatively kick on and win promotion. Without massive investment survival is unlikely whoever is in charge.

25 Years ago Warnock recommended to McCabe that investment in a training facility & academy infrastructure was the priority.
Since then Shirecliffe has seen some excellent, international players develop and continues to deliver success to this day.

So even if you discount the incredible job Wilder has done this campaign, it's reassuring to know that the new training facility & ambition for Category A status shall have Chris Wilder fingerprints on it. It's a critical project that needs his staff involved from the get-go.

Here's hoping for another 25 years of academy success 🙏🏽

Is that you Rob? (From a Man City fan)

Football clubs are more than just a manager, having a manager that plays a certain way will allow the club to continue to invest in academy and development players and coaches which also match this style

Many modern football clubs invest in a DoF and a head coach, but the principle remains the same - supplying the first team with players for now and the future

This is something we’ve done well and should remain the ethos of the club. To bring players through to play or sell on.

As for the manager, he will also want stability of a longer term contract to build and work with the academy and development players. The manager or head coach and DoF all have to buy in and be aligned on how best to take the football club forward.

Outside of this the commercial, the recruitment and other aspects of the club will all want to be clear on the way forward

The club has had elements of these things in place for a while, despite having an owner trying to sell the club, he did eventually align all of these elements as much as he could and could afford to

In the owners they have backed Wilder now and that sets a tone for the rest of the season at least. The longer term planning will come in the next few weeks and months. I’m sure many of the players will be glad to come here and resign here knowing that their 3-4 year contracts will be aligned to the managers 3 year contract rather than a month to month deal

It would be nice to have a sort of "trainee" manager for when CW either goes upstairs or steps back from the managers role, somebody aligned to the same methods as CW for continuity, (a Billy Sharp type figure) but only if they have the potential to be a top manager! (not because they played for sufc)

Some players in the January and Summer windows might not want to sign permanently if there's a chance CW could be off with having a short contract.

Every single player that signs bigs up Wilder as one of the main reasons they joined our brilliant football club.

Didn’t stop Cannon from signing, I doubt many players know or even care what length of contract the manager has.

If a player signs based on a manager being there long term, it’s likely they’ll be disappointed.

If Wilder doesn’t get results, he’ll be gone, the length of contract doesn’t matter one bit.
