Chris Wilder and rebuilding Sheffield United

Why?
He's an employee of the club, and not a very effective one.
I'll continue to back Sheffield United, but I really can't back him. He's done nothing to demonstrate that he can make things better. I'm not going to get personal about him, but professionally he no longer seems to have what it takes, in all sorts of ways.
No other choice and he will be our manager in the summer so short term if you continue to back United he’s a big part of that

Well he's not had the best of starts with his 3 signings so far.
Grbic - disaster
Holgate - poor
BBD - good
He needs to improve on that success rate considerably.
He definitely had nothing to do with Grbic. He did an interview where he didn’t even know his name & referred to him as ‘the new keeper’

There isn't one it's bollocks... just like when we signed brewster 100% on wilder .. the Prince didn't want him
There’s an article knocking around that outlined how each prem does their business in the prem from the last time we were in the league (about 4/5 years old).

Not seen it for a while but that article suggested that wilder and knill have a pretty free role when it came to signings. Most clubs had a very structured approach and for us it was the opposite. Wilder + AK are heavily involved.

Ndiaye existed pre-wilder and he wasn’t playing him. Berge too and slav also brought Gibbs White in but still made a pigs ear of things. If you think it was a one player team you clearly didn’t rate the excellent loan signings. Loans ok short term and are no way to develop a squad but they made fantastic signings.
nidaye's goals got us promoted the teams performances were average all that season

it’s all about opinions and i differ. There is a reason we wanted Macatee back and doyle. The goals scored by McBurnie were match winners on a few occasions and so were Anels. Wes was fantastic last season. Irrespective of what players have been like this season the contribution of these players last season was the reason we were promoted. I was sat with someone last season against Luton when macatee put in the shocking performance and said he’s powder puff kid from man city he said that macatee was signed because he was regarded as someone the coaching staff believed would be crucial in winning us promotion and he said you will see and he was right. The same coaching staff that made shit signings😂 let’s hope the new ones can make just as shit signings.

Hecky decent few games at the end of his first spell in charge. When put in full charge well into a season he made the play offs and ran forest very close. A semi final FA cup appearance and promotion. Many of the players in the academy were under his tutelage. My point is he hardly lacked experience.
I believe he lacked experience, (and clout) at fielding a side in the Premier League. He was beholden to the board and the owner, when trying to buy players for the budget he was given!. He was also obliged to send a team out minus NDiaye and Berge.
He had a very difficult job, as Wilder has since proved.

Point taken. And well made btw !!!

However. I’m as certain as I can be that this very same shit show of a squad we have had to endure this year would have been VERY competitive in the championship this last season and I’ll go top 6 as an out there prediction hypothetically. The gap is that wide now.

So if we do manage to recruit well, I see no reason why top 6 next season would be out of reach. No reason at all 😃.

This shit shower couldn’t even beat Lincoln
Top six your on deludamol

It’s gonna be without a doubt our biggest pre-season in years with so many out of contract players ( that in itself was poor management by the way ) .
In truthfulness I’m shitting bricks ... this could be such a pivotal time around the clubs future.
I have serious doubts around CW being the man to take us forward & even more serious doubts about the war chest he’ll be given by the owner... I hope I’m wrong on both scores & add to that our recent transfer purchase history & im reaching for the Imodium Extra .
As I said before I wish we’d took a change of direction & gone for the likes of Mark Robins .. a fresh start , new approach and unlike the situation when we brought Slav in a chance to bring in their own players & not be hamstrung with current incumbents .
But were are where we are ... and i’ll back whoever’s in the seat
Fingers toes & everything crossed as the last pre-season was one of the worst I’d known & that was on the back of a promotion !

Mark Robins , Mork and Mindy , the Flower Pot men …..

Doesn’t make a bit of difference whilst the Prince owns the club .

Agreed…..The Prince is the fundamental problem. His survival since 2019 was wholly because we have had circa £350 million of Premier League money. We are scrambling around for cash now because he is back trying to balance the books because he has little money to actually invest himself. Let’s not forget he made us default on £8.5 million of missed payments to other clubs for transfers last season over an 18 month period = a 2 point deduction next season.

I think someone once said we have managed to find the only Saudi Prince without an oil well at the bottom of his garden!

He needs to swallow his pride & either sell at a realistic price or find an investor to work with us asap. Otherwise it will be a fire sale & loans and frees this summer.

If I had any confidence in Wilder I would back him to the hilt......I have zero confidence in Wilder.
All this talk of ' we'll get it right next season, don't you worry about that' will wear perilously thin if we're not in the top 6 come the end of September.

Let's hope we're in the top 6 come the end of September.

im also not sure wilder is the man to rebuild us i certainly was first time round but abdullah has appointed him again so we as fans have to give him a chance personally think its a 50/50 shot as to whether he succeeds but i do think if were struggling by the end of october i think he will be gone

Players with 1st team experience, currently under contract next season who aren't rumoured to be "up for sale" or "open to offers of the amount United paid". Players in Bold are the main ones rumoured to have received contract offers

GK - Grbic
RB - Curtis, Seriki, Bogle
CB - Trusty, Robinson, Egan
LB - Buyabu
CM - Arblaster, Brooks, Davies, Osborn
AM -
CF - Osula, Brewster, One, McBurnie, Jebbison

Wilder needs to find, as a minimum

Starting GK, RCB, LB, CM, AM, CF. Plus back up/competing to start GK, LB, CB x 2 (if 5atb stays), CM, AM, CF

That's 13 new players, if all the ones in bold sign (4/5 have had a decent number of recurring injuries and Egan just missed a full season). The "8-10 new players" rumours leave it as an incredibly thin, injury prone squad

Honestly, I won't particularly blame him if we are bottom at the end of September. This is trying to build a team from almost scratch in a league where we won't have the biggest budget (as in 16/17 L1 where we could outbid almost everyone on wages)

Tbh there will be negative views next season no matter what.

Our best hope of competing at the right end will involve recruiting a number of gnarly Champ players not good enough for the PL and PL loanees. Nothing wrong with that imo but if we do well then people won't have any confidence in doing any better if promoted.

The alternative strategy may well result in not getting the same results to start with.

The other issue next season is if the Pigs do better than expected. Being above us will mean plenty of fans lose sight of the real picture.

I suppose what I'm saying is that I expect plenty of fans to see negatives next season whatever happens.

Exactly this but a load of chest thumping appears to pull the wool over the eyes of some.....and he's "one of our own" don't forget so we can't question his ability. Those blinkered fans are are the same ones who thought Billy could have "done a job" this season....

I seriously hope someone with enough influence on HRH suggests that Wilder may not be the best candidate to take us forward and we replace him, (with Steve Cooper please) ASAP after the Spurs game on Sunday.

I was gutted when he left, I was delighted when he came back, I still am.

Without trying to sound like Del Boy, this time next year we'll be right up there, probably still not millionaires though, let alone owned by a billionaire🤣😉!
Hope you’re right. Personally have doubts. I’ll be the first to acknowledge I got it wrong if he’s successful.

When Wilder was saying to'ther week about fans wouldn't be wanting to leave early next season after the big rebuild... What he meant was exits weren't being opened until the full time whistle 😆

Agree

Some very bullish comments being projected by CW - I hope he really has confidence in his ability to recruit effectively and that this belief is in line with an already agreed plan with our owner .

Because if not things will quickly turn nasty .

Apart from the back door obviously....
