clough has said if he cant sign one of the strikers on his list he will not sign anyone just to make the numbers up .he is not one for panic buying and can use the loan market with a view to buy in the next window.
INT IT REFRESHING TO HAVE A MANAGER THAT STICKS TO HIS GUNS '
i am sure he will get one of his targets he ,s a lot more patience than most punters on this forum

Is that aimed at me?!?....
It should be, because I want a striker NOW... NOW DAMMIT NOW!!
haha

I think a powerful striker such as ogrady is just what we need.

I wouldn't be gutted but it's getting late in the day and we seem to be pinning our hopes on him signing.

It really isn't, and I doubt we are. Clough's made it pretty clear we're looking at a number of options, and the situation is fairly fluid - a player signing for one club may suddenly make new targets available that weren't previously. I've no doubt we'll have a team ready to hit the ground running come the start of August, but we really don't have to finalise anything till the end of August.

Spot on, Loughboro. Cloughy is canny enough to realise that agents can turn a players' head in an instant, so it's not wise to put all your eggs in one basket.

Even without a known striker, we may get off to a flyer and priorities may change.

Pleased with this to be honest.
Obviously COG wanted a Ched-load of cash and I'm guessing a three year contract what with this probably being his last big move at 28.

He's decent enough but not worth breaking the bank for. I mean rumours of £300-500k fee!?!?!?

MK Dongs only offered £100k for Winall!

We have a number of strikers already at the club. They may not be the best we could get but they may turn out to be great until we get the right one. None of us has seen Mcnulty play yet he could be the one. Clough signed him and Scoogs raves about him.

IN CLOUGH WE TRUST

COG didn't strike me as a great signing but I notice the tSar today is saying we are still in the hunt for him. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/shef...iker-receives-a-message-from-clough-1-6735282

My big doubt about him would be his apparent weakness in holding the ball/keeping possession.

Maybe the lack of anxiety/activity re signing a striker is because the fall-back position is to muddle through to October or so and Evans will come back in. It will be on a new contract obviously and as his options will be more limited due to the stigma and long lay-off caused by the prison sentence etc and I would have thought he is likely to cost less in wages than previously as a result. It would be a gamble but it may well free up some money in the salary cap for the bearded one. Just a thought.

This is a daft idea, as he won't be in any sort of shape until January, by which point we will have scored about 30 goals in 25 games playing Chris Porter on his own up front, and conceded a similar number having sold our best defender.

I am afraid, however, that however daft it is, this is what we're going to do.

Pinchy will not be happy with this news.

No mate, I think he would have been ideal for us. I'm sure Nigel thought so too. In a sense, however, it's a further example of our new found robust approach to transfers. We have a valuation and we stick to it. Sounds like we would have had to pay COG wages well in excess of the others and that , as we know, can cause problems.

We'll just have to find a different partner for Ched, I guess!

Yes im as gutted as you,i thought he'd have relished upfront alongside anyone in our team, but there's no point trying to compete with a championship club at the moment. We still need that man though pinch but i'm willing to bide my time as all of us should do.

Should this quote from O'Grady on our interest be a bit worrying?

"It would've been quite ironic to make the move and it could've happened but for what they're going through on their end with their own transfer dealings but yeah, it's something I would've possibly been open to had it been an option but it wasn't an option."
