Gordon Owen also did all the S Yorks clubs except United. Like you, I am struggling to think of someone who played for United and 3 other S Yorks clubs....

Owen also did Chesterfield, which makes it 5 out of 6 local clubs.

Despite Darren Bent to #bhafc, I understand Chris O'Grady to Sheffield United unlikely. Geography to count against #sufc

O'Grady & family settled in Brighton now. Should any loan happen a London club is most likely destination #twitterblades #sufc #bhafc

Mansfield is quite local so 6 out of 7 for Owen who gave Martin Pike a hard time in that April night match at Mansfield in 1989 when Bob Booker started to get popular with Blades fans

Curran has played for Donny, both Sheffield clubs and Chesterfield

Billy McEwan managed the Blades, played for Chesterfield, Mansfield and Rotherham.

Must be right if it's on Twitter.

On the off chance that the statements are correct, United will have been well aware of such a situation long before a hack reporter.

We shall see...

Who tweeted this? Was it a credible source?

Doesn't O'Grady know he can live at home and just pop in the day for before the match?
It's good enough for McCarthy and our need for a striker is much greater..

Wonder if it'll be the excuse offered for not landing him when he decides to sign for Preston, instead?

Also understood that now Bent has gone to BHA then Villa have recalled the striker that Preston had on loan from them.

The plot definitely thickens. Surely a team vying for automatic promotion cannot leave themselves so exposed as to not having any viable striking options left?

O'Grady to Preston then.

Or like the Blades, none to begin with....

Is O'Grady that much of an improvement on the higgopotamus?
I dunno...

I still feel a McNulters/Higdon rotation or partnership can do very well but it's obvious we needed something short term. It might be a bit frustrating if this goes through just when our other strikers are coming back to fitness, but maybe some competition will drive them all on.

Is it really that difficult to find out which players are motivated to join us if their clubs allow them to go on loan? Wouldn't a chat with the players' agents make it clear it it would be something worth pursuing? Blackstock and O'Grady seems to have been a waste of time if the latest info is correct.

Exactly you would have found out pretty quick if the two players you were after would be open to moving or not.

Good excuse though if you wanted fans to think you were looking to sign a player or two when in reality you had no intention of signing anyone.

This has to be the longest running non-starter in history. How many times must this transfer be dismissed before people will stop talking about it?

Please move on

Think he will leave it alone if he cannot get COG, go with Sparky and the big man and see how they go until hopefully recruiting in January.
Be interested to see the Dutch kid over on trial?
We have previously spoken of having no funds but they apparently outbid other clubs by paying around £100k for Adams so we must have some, of he would not have invested again in the future!

The problem is, they will move for £20k per week, might move for £10k and won't budge for £5k.

It's never quite as simple as "are you interested?".

UTB

But if the clubs have agreed the deal for the loan (as we have been told re COG and BHA - Alan Biggs as one source) then it is up to the player.
Then the following factors come into play:
Travel time / hotel
Family upheaval
Standard / division
Quality of squad
Likelihood of success of team results
Style of play
Game time expected
Previous
Weighing up more than one option.
If this becomes permanent do I want to go there?

The money side of things doesn't really feature for the player much at the loan stage, it's mostly about the game time and the standard they are interests in.

The loan deal between clubs can be agreed before personal terms

Think that's where our deals go tits up

Surely wages don't come into loan deals. If a player is on 10k a week at club A then he will still get £10k if goes on loan at club B as he is contracted to Club A. The player won't be out of pocket it will just be who pays what i.e. is it 50/50 or sometimes the club who is loaning the player may pay all the wages just to get the player some playing time if coming back from injury for example

The factors that the player will consider are as Kenilworth describes above
