5 in 42 is a truly appalling record. I bet even Laurens ten Heuvel and Dries Boussatta would have scored more than that if they had played 42 matches for us.

5 in 27 starts is slightly better for a young forward who's suffered a couple of serious injuries and has the weight of a large transfer fee on his back. He's never scored after coming off the bench (which seems to be the role of the older goalscorer anyway).

I'm not saying that it's a great record and I'm as frustrated as anyone about the lack of goalscoring return but I still believe he has the potential to be a very good player for United.

One thing though - perhaps if he didn't hit the ball so bloody hard his shooting would be more accurate?!

I'd still be tempted to play Evans on Saturday. It's obvious he's in dire need of a goal and his confidence is low. Maybe leaving him out would result in another Sharp situation? After all, Ched is our joint top scorer this season...

Well if you look at the 6 games this season, one could argue he has been a tad unlucky.

However, if you then take into account ALL of last season, I think you can't fail to come to the conclusion, he aint a striker and he aint a midfielder, infact wtf is he?

Always thought he was a Donkey

We owe him nothing, just like we didnt owe billy sharp anything. He has had more than enough games, and come up with diddly sqaut. His positioning is terrible, first touch is hit and miss, people talk about his great strike but he doesnt often get in postions to pull that off. if we had only paid 100k for him and if he was on 2k a week, he wouldnt be anywhere near the team. he's in that side on the back off the fee we paid and the expectations people have for him. i dont know where people get that he's a great talent and has the potential. He aint good enough from what ive seen and unless any of you on here are coaches at the lane or spy on our training sessions id like to know why you think this.

Top post.
Sometimes I think Guthery's been reincarnated?

He's got about 2 more games before his announcement on the p.a. will be greeted with boos. Sad, but true.

I would like to see if Quinny copes better in a side that emphasise on playing football. I think it may suit him down the left.

I even think that perhaps Boggy deserves a crack. Give him a chance. He can't score any less than none can he?

A game with Monty and Chedward on the bench wont do them any harm imo. However, I can't see Speed changing things too much apart from Morgs coming in.

I think we will see 442 on saturday with Cresswell & Evans up front.

So the reason I can't see his potential is because I don't have a football brain. Gee, thanks SteelCity, I think I understand now.

It wasn't directed at you was it sharrow? You've chosen to take that personally. I am of the opinion that Ched's potential is easy to see for those that have been involved in the game for a long enough. Some choose not to see it and that is more the point I am making. Its purely out of the fact that people have made their minds up about him and that they dont choose to take a broader view.

Apologies if it offended. It was possibly not put across in the right way and that wasnt my intention. But I stand by the statement in the context of his ability, which is plain to see IMO.

so steel city, whats this potential thats is so easy too see?

name some of the outstanding qualities that justifies his position at the club and the standing he seems to have.

What standing?! All he gets is flack

Some people on this forum seem determined to get into an argument with other posters and I'm afraid I'm not playing fella. Ive offered my opinion, some will like it some wont and I dont mind that.

I have been honest enough to admit in other threads that Ched needs to start giving some return in goals. Indeed we cant wait forever for him to start firing. But the lad has some good attributes and shows flashes of quality (admittedly not enough so far). But he is young and has had a decent scoring record for other teams so its plain to me that he has it in him. That's my opinion and I stand by it because I believe he will prove me right eventually.

I see potential, you clearly dont. End of discussion. I'm not going to enter into a row over something trivial. I think this forum has enough of that. Time to move on.

Value for money"!
Ched has cost us £600k per goal to date plus wages
Not a very good return for the investment!
I have yet to see anything Ched has brought to the side
At that kind of value Ched would be better sat with me watching and let Boggy have a go!
Can't do any worse

Three goals to our credit for the season,we obviously don't have the firepower of a QPR or Cardiff but if Evans isn't getting it done bring Boggy on earlier.
Speed is taking a page out of Blackwell 's book with his late substitutions they don't have enough time to settle into the game to have any impact.

Why bring Bogdanovich on earleir, why not start with him? It's not without reason that when Evans' fans are asked to list his strengths, they don't come up with any. He hasn't got any, other than a hard, wayward shot.

After 25 games it was time for him to start showing potential. After 52 it's time we moved on.

So you're saying we should give him another 10 games?

thats a nice way of avoiding the question, do you work in the public sector?

will someone please say why they feel he has this potential? Everyone who suppports him is too broad, give points or give it up.

It's a very broad question that's why.

He has a good first touch, good shooting power, his link up play with certain players is good, he makes himself available to others, he has good vision, not afraid to shoot.

I'm not saying he is quality, but he has something about him.

However he has a lot of flaws at the moment too, which I need not go over.

evans has got some talent....he scored goals for norwich and scores for fun for wales u21......do u want him to go the same route as sharp amd forte..they were young players and were still developing but we let them go and look what they doing....forte would look good in cresswells position on the left side of the front 3

He scored 10 goals at Norwich over 20 games. Similar to Henderson who's done it over a much greater period yet is pilloried by most. Other than that, his career amounts to nothing. Forget kids football. Billy Sharp has outscored him before and after he played for United, and probably easily outscored him in his time at United, such is the limpness of Evans' contribution.

I want Ched to come good. I want United to come good 100 times more. Our role isn't t be a platform for a young player who might come good, given "enough" time. He hasn't done it for too long, isn't looking like doing it, and we have a half decent replacement sat on the bench. Let's try it and let Ched fight for his place for a change. Either that, or loan him out / sell him and use the £1.5million a year we're currently flushing away to try to find something else.

WOAH WOAH WOAH.

Henderson? 1 in 2? More like 1 in 4..... and that is league goals. His cup ratio is even worse.

I was referring to last season with the 1 in 2, and I'll be honest guessing a bit. His ratio is better than Evans' overall, over a much longer spell. My point holds. Over short spells, many strikers manage 1 in 2. Evans has one short spell, and that's where it ends.

I see,

To be honest though, Henderson is an established player and has a goal record of 1 in 4 for league goals.
Evans, a young player still progressing and with a barron run behind him has a goal record of 1 5 in league goals.

Not a great deal in difference to be fair.

That's not really fair at all though Robbie. Right now in his time for us, Evans' rattles them in at a rate of 1 in 10. That's the stat that matters and if it continues could easily lead to a relegation battle this season.

1 in 8.25 if you want to be fair.
I take your point on his record, and yes it needs to improve. But should we write off anyone who doesn't hit the ground running?
This is the first time he has had a consistent run in the team and he looked very dangerous in the first half against Scunny. Second one, useless.
