If he's been accurately quoted then the article in The Daily Star might shed some light on where his problem lies.
He seems to be saying that he's not match fit because his offered - and accepts - too much food when he's away on International duty!
I've just read a couple of his interviews and his comments are an absolute disgrace. Blaming Blackwell for him being crap all last season because he can't be expected to win aerial challenges against "big, ugly players like Morgan" (Why not? They're both 6 Foot tall). Blaming the Welsh setup for him not being able to finish a match because they're force-feeding him three meals a day. I've kept hoping he'll come good for us but I don't see it happening on the pitch. With such an apparent lack of backbone and self-control it's hardly surprising.
Is it really too late to swap him (on loan at first of course) for a decent, pacy, skilfull striker who'll compete for the ball and take responsibility for his own fitness levels? We've already forked out £2M + massive wages on the bloke. A club in our financial position can't afford to chuck another £1M away waiting for him to pull himself together.
Self-pity alert! :- 'Evans, who was finally substituted five minutes after his second goal of the season, added: “I’ve been coming off around that time regularly. “I’m not 100 per cent match fit yet. When you go away on international duty, you’re not always working as hard as you should be, you’re eating twice the amount as well. You have your breakfast, then your lunch, then after training you have some more. It’s all laid on for you, and you have to go and show your face. You wouldn’t really get that here, so sometimes internationals can be a bad thing when you go away.'
"Defenders in this league are like Chris Morgan, big and ugly, and they are always going to win balls in the air against me.
