Outgoing? Che Adams

Adams, who scored 12 goals in 41 appearances for Sheffield United last term, features on the wanted-list of at least one unnamed top-flight club while Championship teams Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town are also thought to be monitoring his situation at Bramall Lane.

United manager Chris Wilder is plotting a major overhaul of the playing staff he inherited from Nigel Adkins seven weeks ago after releasing 10 and transfer listing another seven members of the squad which finished 11th in the League One table under his predecessor.

Although United have no plans to part company with Adams, they have a plethora of options in attack and could recruit a targetman during this summer’s window.

Adams, previously of Ilkeston, returned to pre-season training with United this week. Speaking before Monday’s session, Wilder made no reference to the teenager’s future but did confirm negotiations with “a couple” of potential acquisitions have reached an advanced stage.

“We’re looking to ramp things up over the next seven to 10 days,” Wilder said. “We’re pretty close on one or two things and only want the right people.

“We’d rather do it like that, focus on individuals with the right characters and the right attitudes than rush into something and get it wrong. I think that’s important. Everybody here agrees on that.”

Wilder, who has also outlined plans to “get more” out of United’s existing players, added: “Everybody can improve. There’s talent here and, arguably, we must look to exploit that better.

“That’s not a comment on what’s gone before or what anybody else here has done. It’s not a criticism. Just a statement about what we are trying to do and want to do."

I'm not saying that there is no basis in the 'rumour', but the star have just listed 2 clubs and an unnamed one...no source, no background. Its easy this journalism lark, just make shit up and tenuously link it to a few quotes about bringing new players in.

Hadn't realised (or forgotten) Che scored 12 last term, not bad for a player often played out of position, out of form and in a really shite team.

Che has potential but needs to buckle down and concentrate on his football. Really can't see a premier team signing him up. As Swiss says, more lazy journalism from James Shield. Let's be honest, he has plenty of previous

Is it Smoke and mirrors, or is it no smoke without fire?

Either way, once this game starts there's only one way it's headed

I can't think of a situation in recent times where we've come out and said we're not selling. I know all the usual rhetoric regards not holding the players career back, but somewhere, somehow, we have to find some resolve to hold on to our players if we are to achieve our goal of promotion. 5 seasons and counting is proving that the continuous selling of our best or most promising contracted players does not help our cause.

I suppose the flip side is that if we were to be offered a deal that was just too good to turn down then there would be a case to allow it to happen. However, history might indicate to us that perhaps that may not always be the case. Add to that, that in recent times how many occasions have there been whereby the manager gets all the transfer fee back to invest in the squad? It always seems to be the case that the Manager has already spent the money and therefore the sale is to balance the books.

My own view is that under CW, Che could yet turn out to be our biggest asset next season. I believe the best is yet to come and CW is the man to help him achieve it, but that's only an opinion and of course remains to be seen

Finally and apart from the above, I don't agree with the Star that we have a "plethora of options in attack" Take out Che and we have Sharp, Done, Sparky and DCL, with perhaps a target man yet to arrive. That imo is not a plethora, certainly not in real terms because I feel there are still question marks against one or two of them.

Che is Quality, still not sure if he's a striker or a winger. At present his inexperience suits being off the strikers or as a winger. Long term i think his future should be up top, but we'll see

I don't think we saw the best of him under Adkins and I also think CW will get more out of him.

The other wankers are going to be very hard to move on. It's pathetic that it should even come to this, but if we have to sell Adams to fund the incomings we need then so be it.

...interesting Mr Bond...might just be me but perhaps Wilder would be happy to get a million or so quid in for Che to spend on four or five players?

Just a thought ;)

Million or so quid? Where will the other 750k come from then? Lottery tickets?

I'd say that his value is no more than 250k at the moment.

His agent was very active with rumours in the last window. Didn't someone register on here informing us ? Nothing transpired, no bids as far as I'm aware.

It's 1 July, there will be a lot of this.

If someone offers daft money, take it. Otherwise the coaching staff have a big job to turn his raw talent into consistent performance.

If we need the money to strengthen, then as long as we got a good fee for him and were going to invest it all in bolstering the team, I'd be happy with the sale.

Lots of ifs there.

Che is worth 3 million to a premier club its the potential they look at we would be mad to sell though as if we get promotion we could double the fee and every player we sell the money disappears in the black hole so why sell when we never reinvest utb

And what, my dear chap, do you believe is the chance of:
a) us negotiating a decent fee for him and
b) Tufty seeing any of the money

Personally, I think there's more chance of me getting a steamy threesome with Kelly Brook & Scarlet Johannsen this Saturday night ......... although I'm prepared to take one for the team here if the footballing gods are listening :D

Che would go for £250 to £300k cash with add on and sell on clauses.

Even in this era of money madness in the premiership , there is no chance we would get any more for him.

At the moment he is a raw potential talent , and would be better stopping at the lane for his development . Trouble is we ain't got many assetts to sell , which would help the building of the squad .

I can see Done going just to release some money in PX. with another league 1 club .

Have to disagree LBOE, I think he is worth a fair bit more, At 19, plucked from non-league to get 12 goals in his first full season, I believe his potential will command a much higher fee

What would be the benefit to the club in accepting £250k for a player who's just signed a new long term contract? Whilst McCabe is a Grand Master at selling our best players at the drop of a hat, he isn't stupid enough to allow him to go for next to nowt because he gains nowt imo

Adams wouldn't go for any less than 500k, no way.
