Wilder wont pay anything like 10 million for an aging striker could be interested at the right price no where near 10 million

Really doesn't fit in with CW's ethos of buying investment type players.

Maybe it's agent talk, maybe he is somewhere near the bottom of CW's list, maybe the rumours are being used to nudge other targets, their agents or clubs along but either way, I'd be very surprised if he arrived at BDTBL

We should use this summer to acquire a long term successor to Sharp.

Getting a 30 years injury prone player in on high wages wouldn't be a good move in my view.

There’s a temptation to use McGoldrick as a barometer for assessing the reward of recruiting talented players, that have had a history of injury problems. It’s a high risk strategy though, and at £10m surely is too high risk to consider Austin viable.

I don't understand why folk think CW has an investment ethos when recruiting players.
He doesn't pursue a player thinking I can make a nice bit of profit there. He targets players that he believes will be an improvement on the ones he's got.
Premiership survival is worth way more than any potential profit from the sale of a player.

I think it because CW has repeatedly said it. I'm struggling to think of m/any of CW's signings that have lost a significant percentage of their transfer value whilst with Utd. Even players that have been relatively less successful (Carruthers and even Lundstram) would likely recoup what or close to Utd's outlay on them. The only possible exception would be Thomas

I think he actually explained the complete opposite of your point. He talked about legacy and he wants to sign players of the correct age so that once he’s gone the club has a player who is also a saleable asset.

I noticed last year if you take CW 100% word in his interviews he usually spells out who he is after.

Id much rather us go in for Marriott at Derby or Robinson at Preston, than Austin.

That said, preference would be Maupay and McBurnie.

As a ‘type’ of striker, McBurnie is thr most similar to Austin, both 6ft+ and can win headers.
Marriott, Robinson and Maupay are smaller, quicker players.

I hear you. I think when we look for absolute bargains like we do then any potential loss will be marginal. But I don't think CW recruits with a view to resale profit. I do however think he recruits to invest in the club's benefit. Forget McG cos I don't think anyone could have foreseen just how well that would workout. But Norwood signed for less than 2mil! Sale of the century. Bought to improve the 1st 11 with a wealth of promotional exp. His leadership on and off the pitch has taken us back to the big time. But we're not looking to turn in a profit on him now are we?
Egan our record signing. Bought to improve the starting 11 and sort our defence out. Will be the future club captain. Not sold on to make a profit.

I think we're almost saying the same thing CB. I agree Utd's strategy is different to say Brentford's but it's also very different to the Massive's (or even Man Utd's) model over the previous few seasons who have bought players such as Fletcher and Rhodes whose residual valuation was only ever going to reduce in a bid to achieve success in the short term

I think 'exact opposite' is a tad harsh haha. I actually think our points are very similar. Improving the club and establishing it as a Premiership club being at the core of that.
The only difference being that you think he buys players to sell on at a profit. I don't think that is the motive.

His legacy will be an internationally renowned academy. That will be one of our first news conferences.

Profit is no longer in buying and selling a player, the money is having academy products reach your first team squads and selling them if they are good enough.

I’d personally love it, but I can’t recall seeing anything that makes me think Wilder is that type of manager. He’s mentioned the training facilities, but what has he done for bringing young players through?

I can balance that out with the fact it would be impossible to have our rate of growth and progress by bringing young players through, and you would have needed one hell of the crop of talented kids, but the fact is for the passed 3-4 years we’ve significantly slowed our investment in that area.
Going for a top level academy will cost a fortune and I doubt it’ll be done until we’ve had at least 2-3 consecutive years at this level. After that it’ll take another 5 for any top level talent to come through.
My guess is we’ll continue to pick up those who’ve fallen out academy programmes elsewhere for the next few years rather than look to grow our own. If we’re still in the Premier League in 2022 then maybe we’ll be hearing of plans to upgrade but I can’t see it anytime before then.

if you listen to many of his interviews you will hear him say that a big investment is required in this area and that will be his legacy. We’ll see about how it’s dealt with this summer. I expect that someone capable of producing talent will come in.

I did hear him discuss leaving a legacy, which we didn't do last time in the prem, but I wouldn't like to say whether he meant academy or training facilities. Or both.

Got to laugh at this Austin thing: struggling Southampton 'are willing to sell' a striker to a rival, I seriously don't believe we're in for him, Norwich won't be and Villa definitely won't. Burnley have a fine collection of strikers of this quality already, which leaves Brighton and they have Murray. I see egg on the Southampton faces regards this one!

Agreed at that price!!

I agree with you. Sorry, that’s your reputation ruined...

Bloody hell I'm beside myself here Pinchy! Haha
I wouldn't worry about my reputation though... You'd do well to ruin that!
You will be pleased to hear however that on reading one of my posts I quickly edited it to replace 'of' with 'have'... Everyday is a school day!

Good for you mate. Just remember “fucking ‘have’” and you’ll of it sorted...

Pretty sure this guy is 'fake' but seems reasonably popular on twitter.
