He said we've bid £6m for Freeman as well which is bullshit.

I think 'exact opposite' is a tad harsh haha. I actually think our points are very similar. Improving the club and establishing it as a Premiership club being at the core of that.
The only difference being that you think he buys players to sell on at a profit. I don't think that is the motive.

Time will tell. But so far we’ve not signed anyone of that type so far in CW reign. Be strange to see that change now after so much success.

Exactly... I can't see his ethos changing now... Improving the team is CW's priority... Not making a profit on a player

I agree. Wilder will buy whoever he thinks will improve the team.

That said - there is a difference when spending a few 000’k on a player compared to say 8m +. It didn’t really matter if we paid 250k for Clarke or £500k on Holmes to do a job, that’s different to splashing millions and millions on a player - at some point the residual value of that asset must be considered.

We can’t afford to sign Austin for 8m if he’s only gonna be worth 2 if we come down imo.

Let’s see what happens. But me personally cannot see it. Maupay / Mcburnie I can see. Won’t be long to see who’s right. I will back any signing but this doesn’t fit for me. £10m for a player who’s 29! And huge wages!

This would be out of the norm.

Cadette said it's bollocks anyway.

I believe in Richard Cadette.

See who's right? About what?... I'd be more than happy with Maupay and McBurnie too 👍
I was just making a point about our transfer ethos.
Think you might of misunderstood me.

I see lots of people would prefer Mcburnie, Maupay, Robinson etc, versus a player with 4 or 5 years of premiership experience, who at 29 is hardly over the hill. Modern footballers do not fall off at all at 30, it's more like 35 now due to better sports science. Their bodies are in better shape and their decision making is better than younger players.

No I understand your point. I just don’t think Austin in anyway shape or form fits our Ethos. Mcgoldrick maybe our oldest signing, but he was on a free.

Don’t see us paying 10m for a 29 year old.

It’s the resale value. Austin has an injury his value drops half! As he falls into the 30 and injured category. Not a signing you can make for 10m who quite frankly hasn’t done great in the prem.

Personally I rate him as a player I’m not sure at 8 million though . I have a feeling there could be some truth that we are interested , paying by instalments , think they’re desperate to move him on, most of our other targets the clubs want cash up front, we don’t have any so I’m led to believe

Sorry, but i think you (or your source) are wrong. 'Don't have any money' after we have just been promoted to the money swishing about PL? Dont believe it.

Not saying that we are loaded by PL standards (far from it probably) but on the basis that we have probably just taken an initial £50m instalment from the PL (payable to the club entity not any chairman), and CW has been quite open that he is happy enough with the budget and that he is trying to get players in, then im calling bullshit.

Why keep peddling the same negative line? Im happy to see what happens in the next few weeks, and i would be majorly surprised if we havent spend a good few bob.

All will be revealed soon i suppose, but im very confident we will be busy in the ttansfer market no we are in July and money will be there to help CW.

So you rate him as a premiership striker? But don’t rate him at an 8m striker? Strikers in the championship go for £10m plus? So what exactly do you rate him as?

I think the reason the fee is relatively big for his age and recent form will be to help in subsidising the wages he’s had over recent seasons.

I'm very meh about Austin, get the player QPR had a few years ago and bingo but get the injury prone one from the last couple of seasons and it's a big chunk of the budget gone....I think the fact that Southampton, who we should be looking at as direct competition, are willing to offload him.....says it all really.

I feel the same. A few years ago I'd have liked to have had him at our club. But he's not really done it over the past couple of seasons and some Soton fans are less than complimentary about him. Seems to be a bit of a "celeb" first nowadays and footballer second.

I can see the attraction though...he could be available for a knockdown fee and if Wilder could get him fit and motivated to play then we could have got ourselves a bargain. I suspect that Ollie McBurnie is a clear first choice for us, but if he's dithering over a decision and they want £15M for him I can see us, at least, making a play for someone like Austin. It will all become much clearer soon, maybe later this week?

So you keep.saying

Ever since Richard Cadette said there was nothing in the Austin rumours, the rumours seem to have cranked up even further

Austin nothing is right about him age, injuries,Premers pedigree not great,
He’s yesterday’s news

We all seem to believe what Cadette says but in the news all our links are with Austin and I can't find hardly any with Maupay.
Basically the press think the opposite to RC.

The local Southampton corespondent has just been on Talksport taking about their Che Adams transfer.

He said that the Saints are now trying to get their surplus players off the wage bill
And then said he understands “there is no truth in the rumours that Southampton have received any interest about Charlie Austin from Sheffield United”.

Apparent 5 million pound bid made

That tweet was 9 hours ago and so if the talksport announcement on no Austin bid was just now then presumably the £5m bid that this Walton guy has said is probably rubbish.
