Pretty sure he'll cost best part of 10 million
Injury prone
past his best
Will be on silly money

If we could get him on a free on say £30kpw on a one or two year contract, then yes.

Are there Any other recent examples?
Billy Sharp's goal returns in the seasons before rejoining United were 5 & 6 (at Championship). A friend who supports Doncaster Rovers and sometimes scouted for them (yep paid to) said he was awful. I saw this friend again this weekend and asked him about it, repeated the same and included the immortal words 'his legs had gone' (that was in 2014). We were then interrupted by an Arsenal fan who said 'I have no idea what you guys are talking about,' first tip of the season; Sharp to score against Arsenal.

Genuine question, how often do players rediscover their glory days? If we go for Austin we’re banking on him showing the form he hasn’t in a few years... and after some pretty bad injury issues.

Suppose mcgoldrick might count in terms of delivery on a consistent basis for us but I suspect not commuting for that length of time aided that. Hopefully wilder might be able to get the best out of Austin and get him firing as he’s shown talent and got a few pl goals.

Are there Any other recent examples? Otherwise my fear is this is an unwilderlike singing, approaching one of those signings that is based of reputation where 2/3/4 clubs takes a punt in the hope of rediscovering a fleeting period of form. This usually Ends up with Bolton taking a punt.

Most of the players we have signed and have played well under wilder. Sharp, coutts, leon, mcgoldrick and Duffy to name a couple that I can think of straight away. Not saying i think Austin would be a good signing because i honestly can't make my mind up on this one but if theres anyone who can get the best out of players surely wilder has to get that achievement.

Could even go even further into it and say Egan, O'Connell, Stearman all also wasn't rated that highly till wilder got hold of them either. So half of our team 😂😂

I'd like us to sign him but I would also like us to bring in a younger striker too.

I thought he was great a few years ago. I've read he hardly plays a game and by the look of him I think he's reached the point in his career where it wouldn't matter if he never kicked a ball again in anger. He's made his money. He's got the lifestyle. Why bother?

A very good player - but I'd be very careful about his motivation. We've had too many, "one last pay day" types down there.

Zero since Wilder was in charge though it has to be said.

im for it & would fit the club. because the majority of our team that got promotion were "rejects" that weren't wanted by the club Henderson Moore O'Connell Cranie Stearman Norwood Freeman Sharp Duffy Hogan Mcgoldrick & its what we do McGoldrick is the biggest example of this nobody wanted him. when we offered him the trial it was the 1st time the phone rang. 11 months later He scored v inter milan, player of the season & premier league footballer. who has every chance at playing at euro 2020

this doesn't sound like a man who lacks motivation & doesn't care

Agree with you on JE and JOC but is Stearman really rated? I'd fear the worst should anything happen to JE and Stearman be the main cover next season.

I rate Stearman yes. He did a good job for us in our first year back in the championship and has looked decent when he has had to step in since then also if he is good enough for the prem is a different story but was deffo good enough for us in the championship.

This does...the following quotes are taken from Southampton fans forum...

"Charlie Austin is a young bloke who gets p!ssed a lot and sometimes embarrasses himself. So f---ing what? He was a product our club bought and now is about to sell. They knew what they were getting. They certainly can't be so amateur that they weren't even aware of his lifestyle, can they? For a while he was our best goal scorer. Now, he's not. I don't think he's going to be missed very much and I don't see that he has much love and devotion from our fans to miss either. That's life in the football world"

"Charlie Austin is a fat injury prone useless c*nt who hopefully will never play for us again.
Let's hope some mugs like QPR will get him off our wage bill"

"Should of been sold two seasons ago past it! Blowing out ass after 20 minutes I have seen people with higher fitness levels playing 5 aside footy....."

"I think the idea of signing him makes sense for a promoted club... but not if they've scouted him"

I trust Wilder to make the right decisions on signing players - to me, there's enough smoke here to suggest fire - but we'll see...maybe?

All about opinions and of course all are valid. From my pov, I thought he did no better than ok in the season before last and the massive upgrade when JE came in last season was obvious. Admittedly, he did well in the few games he came on for, most notably M'boro but IMHO I think he's a long way off Prem standard and I'm actually a little surprised CW has seemingly not lined up other cover/competition for JE so far.

Gosh - let's all hope that CW and AK think about that! 🙄

Fair enough as you mentioned all down to opinions but I thought for the price we bought stearman I thought he steadied the ship the first year we come back up and allowed us to build on that, then we improved with Egan which is an obvious improvement. I still think stearman is a decent championship footballer and think he probably offers a lot of support etc in the dressing room before matches kind of like our championship version of Jake Wright for me. I doubt he will be able to make the step up to the prem but he is one of the only experienced players we have at that level which might be why he is sticking around.

SHEFF UTD WANT AUSTIN
Sheffield United have enquired about the availability of Charlie Austin, according to Sky sources.
Southampton would accept an offer in the region of £10m.
The 29-year-old scored twice for Southampton in 20 appearances in the Premier League last season.

£10m! That's ridiculous and tbh I'm not that keen anyway, not that we have a say! I'd rather Madine to be honest, you know that Madine can play 46 games and will be a handful and not on the wages Austin will be.
