We could make a great team picking up 5 or 6 of those.

David Vaughan would get us promoted.

Not joking, he'd be the first out of that list. Significant improvement from Hammond.

"Dan Burn"

Maybe Adkins will get his man at long last?

Also, we could build a team of ex-SWFC players!!!

Lots of 30 somethings on there, although they appear to have a better pedigree than our 30 somethings in most cases! Chris Burke if fit would be decent as would Scott Wagstaff who is still only 26.

A lot of them will be looking at there last big pay day , with a over inflated salary . Will they want to fight for the cause , want to be in the trenches , want to run through brick walls . We have to be remember that they are being released for a reason and are surplus to requirements.

This is were a players character counts for everything and a pity that Hammonds legs have gone. Right idea , wrong player.

Albeit I am not fully convinced with Adkins , there has been method in his madness , which has failed .

The thing is though, it surely depends on the individual player as to what their motivating factor is. Keith Gillespie and Dean Saunders are examples of a 30 years olds or beyond 30 who did wonders for us. Bob Booker another of course! ;-) But several of the older heads we bought were disappointing over the years like Ugo Ehiogu, Ian Rush, Lee Hendrie and Dean Hammond! I reckon there's some gems in there and if they don't want to come for our wages then fine, but I'm sure a few will too.

He'd be good alongside Nicky Law as part of a 4-2-3-1. That would be a good footballing midfield base with enough bite and mobility.

That would be my three. Harriott will do well with Charlton in this league.

As you say, he'll do well with Charlton. He'll be one of their key players. Would be a great signing for us but I don't see why he'd move to us now. He'll just stay down south with another big club in the same division.

Would imagine Lee Novak would get snapped up, always liked the lad when I have seen him play

These are good, but could you get the same lists from Turkey? Cheers :)

Would be all for his signing.

14 goals in a poor Chesterfield team this season, plus he's the type of striker that'd be a good foil for Billy and Che.

Turner would be a decent signing for us, I would expect Wednesday to keep him though.

aaah, get ya!

Hamit Altintop
Bruno Alves
Jose Bosingwa
Raul Meireles

They're all Turkish based and out of contract in the summer.

Hope we sign Meireles and then his wife can sit next to me.

Not sure what she looks like from the front.... nor do i care ;)

Looking at that list and thinking there is a chance we might sign some of them makes me cry tears of shit

Agreed, a six footer up front who can add more goals to Billy and Che's tally, all good for me.

Not the attitude to have if you ever go to Thailand.

Karl Henry and Neil Danns might be about 33 but they'd be a better bet in defensive midfield than Hammond. They're both naturally more athletic for a start and I'm confident they could both give us at least one good season in L1. I'd hope for younger players but I wouldn't object to one of these two.
If we're to sign players over 30 I'd rather they be defenders - I think Gordon Greer and Mike Duff would be rock solid - but you can never rule anything out completely. Chris Burke at 33 for example would be far too tricky and clever for L1 defenders but you'd still have to be careful and ideally take him on trial first. He wouldn't be suited to 3-5-2 either, but if it's to be 4-4-2 he'd be worth considering if there's no younger alternative.

can't we sign anyone who is around 25 that noone has heard of?? instead of 30 odds that used to be good once and played for some prem. outfit once. We used to laugh at the pigs for doing the same.

We'd all like players on the way up. But they'll always be in the minority when you look through the out of contract lists. It's about separating the useful experienced players from the past it ones, and if we're without a big budget that's something we'll have to do, at least for a couple of signings. That's not to say there aren't decent younger free agents we could sign, Dan Burn's one for a start but I doubt that's too realistic.

other teams seem to find them.. it has nothing to do with budget.. we like to sign 'names' to show how big we still are. trouble is by the time we can afford them they're fucked.

If they're 25 and nobody has heard of them, they're probably not very good.
