Sounds good....so are you happy to stop going to Bramall Lane for a full 2 years?
There’s a real risk that some of our previously loyal fans get out of the habit, find something else to do and never return. It would put an abrupt halt on floating support, potential support, students from attending a single home game for at least 2 years.
Remember if we re-do the whole Kop, the capacity would be 20,000 for a minimum 2 years.
That’s 17,000 home fans with 3000 away fans, the PL won’t allow any club to give away fans less than 3000 or 10% of the capacity, which ever is lower. So we;d be obliged to give away fans 2000 in the lower tier meaning 1000 seats would be wasted due to segregation. Assume we give away clubs the full 3000.
Alternatively we could have a raffle system for those 17,000 home seats but you can guarantee whatever we do regarding a total rebuild it will seriously piss off many life long fans when it dawns on them they may miss loads of home games.
I can appreciate all of the problems you've noted and the SS upper tier would have to be built first. As posted before the rebuild of Liverpools main stand had a ROI of just 3 years. Now I appreciate we aren't in their league, but United would have a seat buffer while the kop could be redone, plus hopefully match day income would increase from the inevitable prawn sandwich brigade.
The kop as someone posted before was done on the cheap - it really does belong in the last century which is when it was built. The entire underneath could be put to good use instead of the earth that is their presently to create decent pre-match facilities. Home fan areas such as Newcastles St James Park is mega moons in front of what we offer and with Spurs setting new bench marks for stadia design, we should at least offer our home fans something better.
For all the problems involved, it has to be done properly - especially if we want to move on as a football club.
Our facilities, even in South Stand are an absolute disgrace, but still better than the kop. Their is zero room pre-match in South stand even to walk to your seat without hassle. Again to repeat whats been written hundreds of times - anyone above six foot tall cannot sit comfortably on the kop. Me (6'2") and my boy (6'4") cannot sit on the kop, but we are very noisy on SS and always when going away. Perhaps if the facilities were better on the kop, we could go back and the continued crap atmosphere on the kop that some fans talk about may return.
There should always have been a master plan - except there wasn't - just a piecemeal development which is what we've ended up with.
BDTBL will always be home - the least we can do is have something more than idiots design it and continuing to build cheap.
The catalyst could very well be CW - he's started a ball rolling and we need to keep it rolling and hopefully over the next few years money can be found to create better facilities.
