The morning after the month before...

What could United have done to make you happy (happier) this last month of transfer ins/outs?

Sign a player in his early 20s from the league below. I'm surprised Wilder's knowledge of that division hasnt led to that.

A few of our signings look like we're just getting by until we find someone better. But Phipps' "three window rebuild" is looking quite accurate.

Didn't realise that DCL was from, wait for it...Hillsborough?! I always thought he was a Blade but maybe not? Not that, that makes him a Wednesday fan but it just got me thinking that maybe if he was a Pig fan as a kid then it would contribute to him leaving now as opposed to not making an impact at United. I certainly wouldn't want to leave United as a fan, and play no games really, unless I was never going to play for the club, but DCL was definitely heading for a career here, until he did what Jordan Slew did, who of course we're led to believe is a Blade. Oh for more Dane Whitehouse's!

Utter conjecture and utterly wrong. DCL is a Blade and always will be but this deal is great for both club and player.

Didn't realise that growing up near Hillsborough automatically made you a pig. Sure there's a few on here who are in the same position.

Dominant = 1
Creative = 1
Toatl = 2

or

Dominant & Creative = 1

I've got this feeling, maybe our creativity will be ...

from the flanks
the very long ball
we will be relying on opposition mistakes (due to the midfield)
something i'm not intelligent enough to list.
We'll struggle to come down the flanks due to our narrow pitch but we shouldn't have to come down the flanks all the time anyway, the central midfielders are there for a reason, not to just stand there looking pretty playing 5 to 10 yard balls going no where.

Fleck might prove to be a good player for us but we have to play to his and our strengths. I fear CW has underestimated this position, I so hope I'm wrong but I just can't see it. Maybe we can revisit this thread in a couple of months to reassess?

Bert was born in Chapeltown and brought up in Ecclesfield. That should make him the uber Wednesdayite. But he isn't.

At least the 1 million will keep the academy ticking over for another year.

As pointed out earlier in this thread, if the Academy exists to merely sustain itself and as a by-product produce a few players for minor Premiership teams to STOCKPILE in the hope that may make the grade,

- then the Academy is not functioning on behalf of Sheffield United, it is functioning for the players and their agents AND for the premier league to plunder. The premier league teams have so much money, throwing a million at someone like DCL in case he makes the grade is like betting on a crap horse on the off-chance it might win.

But every time a player is sold by one club to another, its not like scoring a goal in a football match, its like the buying team scores a goal and the selling team is deducted another goal at the same process. In other words Everton (our competitors) have just scored two goals against us. And look what happens when this is done to us on a regular basis, we slip further and further down the pile.

Our academy seems to exist more for our competitors than it does for SUFC, therefore I say, demolish it.

Ditto, here. Born and brought up in Oughtibridge.

Read the post mate and you'll find i asked the question as opposed to saying that because he is from Hillsborough that he is a Pig fan. I even said that being from Hillsborough doesn't necessarily make him a Wednesday fan, but I just asked the question!? I stick to the point about his football career though, its a massive gamble and I wouldn't want a move to the Prem unless I knew I was definitely going out on loan to play football. He won't be playing senior football until January at the least and for the next two or three season's his career will be spent on loan at lower league clubs when he could have just played for the club he supports and live the dream.

Sorry Booker - re-read and I can now see what confused me; think there's an additional "that" which changes the syntax completely!

Despite all the good things we have heard about DCL, many on here have not seen enough of him to have an opinion. We are a league 1 club that seriously needs to rebuild and players like him are the life blood of clubs like us, keeping him was never going to happen. The academy does not exist to produce players for us, it exists so that we can develop players in order to sell on and keep our head above water. If we were serious about developing players for ourselves, we would have more capable coaches and people in charge of the academy that didn't just pass coaching courses, like we have now, and would have experience at a good level to enable them to pass it on to academy players. You can't buy experience, it's earned. But as we see season in season out in recent years, only players no-one wants seem to progress to our first team. DCL won't be playing first team football at Everton, he is in the development squad because the players deemed almost good enough for the first team are out on loan (Holgate, Gallagher etc) and they need numbers. Good luck to him, he now has a chance to develop without the pressure to succeed, he wouldn't have got that here. So while some see it as a disappointment that DCL has gone, I see it as a necessary evil to provide much needed funds through a player we can't guarantee will progress.

I nearly pissed myself reading that, don't do it again. :)

I thought you might...........but it all depends what you as a fan expects from a CM player?

I expect them to be able to do most things - the best 2 I have seen (none prem) is the Reading pair of Sidwell and Harper.

Coutts does have problems, but he can pass and has shown a tad more urgency in the past few games.

So, we might have wanted a CM player - but we haven't, so what's the alternatives?

I think the whole windows has been pretty good. Annoying to think that Che Adams money was likely spent on paying off Adkins & his horrific 2 lieutenants Hammond & Woolford

Would've liked like byron webster but im ok as moores seems a very good capture

The alternative is to play a 5-0-5 formation, that should sort it. :)

Seriously, we should be looking at getting a released player in, in the next week or so. The only problem with that is they normally get released for a reason and it isn't a good one.

Looks like he's hit the ground running for the Everton U23's...

"Dominic Calvert-Lewin has though and the athletic and classy looking young forward, signed on deadline day, opened the scoring after 19 minutes, capitalising on a poor back pass in the United defence before first-team outcast Oumar Niasse headed home Kieran Dowell's cross in the second-half...."

"Calvert-Lewin showed flashes of why the club paid £1.5m to sign him.

The expectation is that he will be challenging to become a first-team player in the not too distant future – but maybe his immediate focus can be on fighting to become a Premier League 2 title winner...."

Well done lad.

Glad to see that he is doing well, but he only ever seemed mediocre when I saw him play for us.

Can't put a teenager into a rubbish team and expect miracles. Every now and again you'll get a Rashford that can do that, but those kind of people have been at the top clubs since they were pre-teen, for the most part.

My grandmother could have finished that.

I had the exact same thought (although in my head I said 'nan' instead of grandmother).

Amazing what you can do in an empty stadium, perhaps? Last time I saw the lad play he missed a fucking peach of a chance which would've killed off the game.

This kid will prove a lot of people wrong on this thread.

Him and Che Adams are both utter crap, we got a great deal for them.

We are now rich! Rich as kings! :)
