"United can announce that a second Championship fixture has been brought forward.

Chris Wilder's Blades were set to visit Nigel Clough's Burton Albion on Saturday 18th November but the game will now be brought forward to Friday 17th November with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Brewers have a preference for playing home fixtures on Friday nights and the game being brought forward gives Wilder more preparation time for the home encounter with Fulham on the following Tuesday.

It's the second amendment to United's fixture list - the Easter clash at Brentford will now be played on Good Friday (30th March)."

So instead of not being able to get a ticket for the Saturday game, I will now not be able to get a ticket for the Friday game.

Hmmmm.

Rail options back afterwards are poor - 23:40 is the last one back with a nice 40 minute wait in Derby after the boozers have shut.

It was a night game last time too. Hopefully this time we'll have a better hope than Woolford to try and win us the game.

Mini bus it is then, it's not that far, I used to fit towbars in burton/derby everyday a few years back, only an hour, jnc28, a38, easy.

Game will now be played at 7:45pm on Friday 17th November as opposed to Saturday 18th November. There's no mention of SKY TV requesting it and the article states "The Brewers have a preference for playing home fixtures on Friday nights"... What the hell does that mean?

Are you on a dial up connection with one of those modems that makes a shrieking noise?

BTW, did you know that Elvis is dead....

My guess, Nigel and Brayford plan their romantic getaways for saturday day times

They tell the wives the've got a match on but already played on the Friday without there knowledge and hey presto , a whole saturday for them to have a lovely day together !

The pubs still shut at 11.00? I know Derbyshire's a bit backwards but I didn't realise they were still in the eighties.
Int' olden days it were Sheffield that used to shut at 10.30pm and Derbyshire pubs stayed open till 11.00pm. Which is why we used to get all these folks with funny accents streaming over the border at 10.45pm to get a last drink - oreight den pal?

The Fairway pub in Birley is in Derbyshire and back when Yorkshire-Sheffield pubs closed at 10:30 it did reyt business.

They used to play a lot of Friday nights in their conference north and conference days. You have to remember that they were a tiny team, even the conference was a dream, on a par with the likes of Matlock, Gresley (big rivals) and Worcester (sorry JonnyRed(WCFC) ). Therefore they were a second team so to speak for a lot of Derby or Stoke fans (and even the odd Blade :) ).

Therefore if they (Burton) played when they (Derby/Stoke) didn't, they tended to get a better crowd. Bit like Tranmere did. Not sure that they would still.need to.do that now they are unbelievably in the Championship - but it is where it stems from.

Thanks for reminding me BP!

Unbelievable as you say..

And now the gap between Burton and Worcester is 8 divisions with our demise!

Personally I think each small rural attractive county should have a quota for tow bars and a very low quota too. No good comes from a tow bar. Towing a feckin horsebox, trailer or caravan really ruins my joy riding around rural beauty spots. How can a man from the city spend a Sunday effectively polluting nature and frightening wildlife in his fast motor car when his speed is restricted by people with tow bars..

Tow bars second only to the pigs in my house in the evil and unwanted section..

Gonna be a reyt struggle for tickets for this one I reckon. Might be worth registering with their ticket office early doors as a home supporter if you want to get one.
