Fair play Burnley, the much better team. We aren’t good enough to go up. Nothing worse than the play offs though.

Agree….they are similar to us when we had Souttar….very strong defensively.
They seem focused on doing just enough, whatever it takes, to win….often looking like they are playing in 2nd gear.
Don’t think Burnley did much today, they hardly created any chances but they generally controlled the match….and looked quite comfortable.
It’s disappointing when you think it seemed a pretty easy win for them.

Just to add my two-penneth; I'm quite optimistic about going up through the okay-offs! But I'm generally illogically optimistic. Even since the Cardiff okay-offs final when we went into the okay-offs 16 points ahead of Wolves and were 0-3 down after half an hour, then came out and missed a pen after half time.

That game was no disgrace. If anything we were the better team and 2 pieces of madness cost us. They are a very slightly better version of us.

Gus was MOM on losing team. Bring on the play offs - I reckon we will do it.
Good god man we were poor in the final third spent most of the second half hoofing

I thought we looked better first half. But for schoolboy defending we'd have been in front. Second half we fell away and looked knackered like we have for most second halves this season. People have been crying out to change it up and play 2 up front. As soon as he does it the same people have a meltdown. It's laughable.

OK I exagerated a bit
Maybe 8 minutes

The match stats from two different sources say he committed 3 fouls in the match, two in the first half and one in the second.

84' Foul by Josh Brownhill (Burnley).
15' Foul by Josh Brownhill (Burnley).
9' Foul by Josh Brownhill (Burnley).

Parkers and Kompanys Burnley are chalk and cheese

Yeah he got away with a few early in

Are the players on the piss as much as the Manager? I’ve never seen a team blowing out of its arse as much as us after 60 minutes. Who’s the Fitness Coach? I’d sack him before Wilder. Get Tony Daley back. Hamer is overweight which pisses me off. Who on the staff is giving him a bollocking about this? For fucks sake Owners, get the Management and fitness teams out of the club and start again with a team of professionals.

'I don't think we were poor', said Warnock.

Well, our automatic promotion dreams splutter out with barely a whimper. Burnley were in control for almost all that game. Best two teams in the league go up. We'll see what play-offs travesty is to come.

We set up with more attackers and less midfielder and hoofed it a bit which actually unsettled them for a bit until they noticed the huge gaps in our midfield. Competitive first half until we lost it towards the end but we offered next to nothing in the second. Just looked like a go-standard Championship team. Well organised, little else. Our crossing and passing was atrocious most of the game.

Cooper - 5.5 - Didn't have a great amount to do but he'd expect to do better with the first (albeit, that is harsh) and his kicking was dogshit all game again. How many times has he just kicked it MILES out of play in the last month?
Burrows - 5 - Slipped for the first, although didn't really make a difference, but he looked slow and leggy all game. They were simply more athletic than him and he hardly got forward. The dire free-kick straight out of play near the end said it all.
Robbo - 5 - Back and got booked for being a whiny Scouse cunt. We looked less secure without Holding there and he lost many of the battles.
Anel - 4 - Terrible game. Gave a stupid penalty away and was wresting the opposition all game. Like Robbo, lost too many battles.
Choudhury - 6 - Did well early on but much of his play was mixed. Still, our best defender tonight.
Souza - 4 - Slow and laborious. Gave ball after ball away. Takes too much time on the ball and slow to react.
Peck - 4.5 - Tried to muscle Brownhill and Cullen who made him look like a teenage boy. Had a poor one today and looked like a player in his first professional season. Gaps everywhere.
Hamer - 6 - Again, another stupid foul for laziness. he was the only player who looked likely to create anything and did well for the goal.
BBD - 3 - Looked really clumsy and slow. Even gave away some of the most stupid fouls you'll see.
Moore - 5 - Made himself a nuisance and had a couple of decent efforts early on but he seemed to fad after about 30 minutes. Nowhere near good enough at holding the ball up. Needs to be better.
Cannon - 4 - Great for him to get the goal but outside of that he was repeatedly too slow and outmuscled. Difficult against the best CBs in the league but he was toothless.

Subs:

JRS - 5.5 - At least had a go, but he was always second best.
Campbell - 4.5 - Deserves credit for his defensive work but offered zero in the attaching sense.
McCallum - 2 - Came on, first cross skied out of play. Looks slow and shit. He's been an absolutely dreadful signing who has offered almost nothing.
Seriki - 5 - Came on to offer an attacking option but offered little.
Brewster - 3 - Didn't even know he was on the pitch until he got booked.

You would have thought Brooks (where is he?) or O'Hare would have been better options from the bench than Brewster.

Wilder - 4 - He confused everyone with his set-up, which worked for about 30 minutes where we were competitive but after that we were clearly second best. His subs were woeful and made us even worse. Once again, can anyone see a plan? A system? Outside of give it to Hamer and hope he does something?

This was a game we had to win and where was the energy or desire? Hannibal was more determined than our team put together.

What a fantastic summary of the game
Fatastic as in Complete fantasy

Agree. He looks like he lives down the pub.

I don't think they were 'much better' - hardly anything in it- they got the rub of the green. Gus was the best player on pitch by levels.

I can see where you’re coming from because there’s been similar things said about us much of the season.

Think Burnley played in 2nd gear and if we score they raise their game, going into 3rd and 4th gear to try and score again.
We had some good spells of possession around the centre circle area because Burnley were happy to let us control that part of the pitch once they went 2-1 up.
However whenever we got in the Burnley third of the pitch, we were quickly closed down. Trafford hardly touched the ball.

Also there were long periods, edpevially 1st half, where our tactics were the long boot upfield.
It’s almost the end of the season and I’m still not sure what our style of play is.
Also quite often when we make substitutions it rarely improves us….many of our players also look more tired than the opposition.

I’m still a Wilder fan but these factors don’t show Wilder in a good light….so I totally understand some of the negative criticism.
However those predicting we’ve no chance in the play-offs, people don’t know how unpredictable the play-offs can be.
In fact I’d rather go into the play-offs as underdogs instead of being big favourites.

I’ve been watching football a long time and we have the smell of a defeated club already I’m afraid….

Would love to be orovrn wrong but believe will go out with a whimper

Like today we had to go for it to keep our hopes alive… would you say that was going for it?
Looked and felt like a game with nothing on it

Agree but I think people under estimate how Burnley using Parker’s negative (but very effective) tactics can kill a game.
Burnley often turn league games into games that look like pre-season friendlies…they are great at controlling and managing out games.

Agree there.

Not sure they will be able to do that in the prem but fair play, they’re up

congrats to leeds & burnley they've been brilliant in the run in & we've been awful at worst possible time we were finished after Plymouth. & its almost a relief to be put our of automatic misery

i hope the utd players seeing those burnley celebrations. it angers them enough to get back in form for the playoffs. as since calendar turned april. we've been nowhere near the form we seen between aug - mar. we've too many costly errors
