was in London today and bumped in to Dean Saunders in All Bar 1 outside Euston. He'd just finished a Talksport stint and was enjoying a Guiness.

Obviously being an ex-Blades player I was straight over introduced myself got a drink and spent 10 minutes chatting.

Random conversation. Deano was saying he'd just said on Talksport that Leicester could win the Champions League because he wanted to fill a gap of silence so just kept talking. His own words were:

Now why the fuck would I say something like that live on air!

We then had a debate about who was the better player Bayle or De Bruyne before he left to grab his train.

Came across as a really nice bloke, with a cracking sense of humour. wished us well for this season and said we had a real chance.

Got me thinking which ex Blades players others have bumped in to and what the convo was about?

Whilst navigating residential streets to The Baseball ground (circa 1994 ish), only minutes to kick-off, a car pulled into a parking space beside us, out jumped Carl Bradshaw, Glyn Hodges and Charlie Hartfield.

They asked us if we knew where the ground was - they were lost - then walked to the ground with us.

Don't mind admitting that as a precocious early-teen, I was awestruck at talking to such 'superstars'!

Many years later, in fact only a couple years ago, I supped a pint with John Brayford in a boozer (well, wine bar) on Shepherds Bush Green before we beat QPR in the cup. He's a nice bloke, doesn't come across at all like your stereotypical footballer - we even had a little rendition of the GCB on exiting the pub - good lad!

Once saw Trenton Wiggan selling carpets outside Presto foods, think Tom Heffernan was driving the van.

My wife met the original Deano....the one and only Brian Deane....spring 2015 at Hallamshire with his mother who was in for tests .
They talked football. Deano discussed 2014 world cup and Brazil's crap display.
"What went wrong?" said Mrs Hello.
"David Luiz..that's what went wrong", opined Deano.
He wrote an autograph for me on a piece of paper.

Working as a rep for a well known trade joinery company I bumped into Carl Bradshaw doing property renovations. When I found out his name I said, you didn't used to play footie for United did you? Of course he replied yes. Seemed to be a really nice bloke but you can see how he became soooo succesful. Driven? Hell yeah!

Stuart McCall, who lived in Harrogate at the time. Used to bump into him most Friday's in Asda with his mum doing her shopping for her. Always stopped and had a chat. Top bloke. His kids went to the same school as my grandkids. Deano outside Barclays in Harrogate a few years ago. 'You going to the game this afternoon' says I. 'No I can't, I've got a family do to go to or I would have been there' he replied.
Andy Gray many times, think he must live here.
Loads of football managers over the years in Harrogate, obviously they didn't live anywhere near us, but over the posh side of town.
Gareth Southgate lives here too.

I deliver takeaways for an Indian. Dane Whitehouse loves a curry. He has his pictures on the wall.
Also deliver to Kyle Mcfadzean, never gives me a tip either

Danny Bergara was a customer of mine, his good lady still is. Not and ex blade but John McGovern used to be a customer as well. He captained forest to 2 European cups.

Chris Wilder in a pub near Fulwood last April...........long chat about everything football and asked him straight "so how about the Blades manager job then Chris?" Reply - " not a chance - been through the interview process before and the Board haven't got a clue what they are doing"

Yeah right, ok then.............see you at the Lane in a couple of weeks Chris..............and I'm fucking delighted he is here, even though he's a lying twat!!!

Crossing on Ecclesall Road at some lights and the car at the front had a guy driving who looked like Michael Tonge. So I said to my mate 'hey, that guy looks like Michael Tonge', and his windows were open so he heard me and he started laughing, and it was Michael Tonge.

Michael Tonge.

Saw Paul Stancliffe in my local Morrisons Wednesday I think

Didn't speak to him as he had one of them looks on his face that sort of said he didn't want to be there, plus he was too busy deciding whether to buy Heinz baked beans or Branston

Saw Santos on a train from Manchester to Sheffield about 5 years ago. He was stood for the whole journey intimidating people passing by with pretend headbutts.

I've seen George Santos in Manor Top Asda before

Keith Curle in Meadowhell a few weeks ago.

Ha. Santos was the team manager when Ken Jnr played at Bramall Lane in that charity footy thing where you pay to play (FootballAid)
Santos was a true gent and a really nice bloke.
Spent a good deal of time with all the lads and their families.

Got a bit worried, mind, when both he and Ken Jnr were the last two to get out of the showers and back up to the bar :o

I know he's not a blade and the forum police may well want to have a word with me regarding posting on the right forum,however.....bumped into Alex Higgins in donkey man's spital hill late 80s,his last appearance at crucible, asked him how he was doing losing 5-4 but can turn it around tomorrow replied we left donkey man's at 4-30,Higgins and this gorgeous blonde bit of fluff he had with him still there, dancing and drinking...looked at snooker results next day yep......he got beat 10-4....what a legend.

See Kevin Gage regularly in Dronfield, used to have the green dragon pub, think he's got the vic now?
Carl Bradshaw lives at the top end of Killamarsh I believe, in a house he built.
And I think Tony Currie lives, or used to live, in our old house in Killamarsh.
Also, not sure if this counts, but often see Danny Wilson on Brampton in Chesterfield.

When I lived in Brid I often used to chat with Colin Morris who worked in Arundales Peugeot dealership. Now I live in Athens I see Tri Dellas and Vas Borbokis having coffee in the cafe next door. I've chatted Blades stuff a couple of times.

We have a winner here unless someone met Monty in a Brisbane surf shack....

PS - I hope that pair invested some of their career earnings outside of Greece.

When I first saw them my wife thought that I was crazy because I was awe struck and saying to her do you know who they are? She has no idea about anything footy related. They are really nice guys, but unfortunately recently been sacked by Atromitos who now are doing better in the league.
