Brutally honest Wilder on Talk Sport

Yes right is spot on. We played well and should have won in my opinion, certainly not lost. These are the margins the players need to close

he could start by improving his distribution
I’m a big admirer of Henderson but have to agree his distribution is very poor!Yesterday as in the previous 4 home games he had very little to do mainly due to an outstanding defensive effort and a great game plan from the boss!
He dropped a bollock,he deserved his bollocking, no one will remember to save he made from Salah, he didn’t keep us in the game he COST US THE GAME!

i hadn’t noticed until watching kaspar schmichael .. his distribution is superb

I don’t think it’s that black and white. Different situations call for different responses, even for the same person. It’s one of the reasons I feel Roy Keane was one of the best midfielders of his generation but makes an awful manager. SAF has spoken about instinctively knowing when to deploy the hairdryer, and when to put an arm around someone.

I agree Hendo should be big enough to accept his mistake, which I’m sure he has. Now imagine Wilder has had a word, great. Now imagine Hendo also hearing/seeing his manager criticising him in the media. That’s the bit I think he needs to be careful of.
Our manager has shown over the 3/4 years he's been here that he knows how to treat his players.
He's used defeat to teach em a lesson and going
forward if they don't learn those lessons they'll be gone.

Henderson has loads of confidence and doesn't need to be told don't worry about it so he regains mental strength. He needs to be angry as hell with himself so he concentrates like a maniac in future games. Wilders strength is not that builds players up from the outside but encourages them to build themselves up from the inside which is far more effective. Stevens is an absolute fucking revelation. I've heard it said that the players don't like wilder but there is fantastic team spirit between them. It's working out for sure and I really think and hope like hell wilder has it in him to be another clough.

Winning is pushing it. 0-0 would've been fair but 1-2 on chances would also be a fair argument from a scouser.

Too honest, or just right?

Calls it spot on as ever , we need to start converting performances into points , we all know we should have a zero points return from last 3 home games but this league I see unforgiving.
We need to learn quickly as the games come along thick and fast

He's fucking spot on. Our goalie makes a mistake and he's a wanker, the loanee makes (another) one, and the ground rises and sings his name.

If/as/when we go down (and we will if we lose at home every bastard week) Henderson and the new signings will fuck off and the rest of the squad-who deserve to stay up because they are all tremendously good enough- will be back where they don't deserve to be.

I think the chants after the goal were to try and raise Henderson's spirits after the goal so he didn't fall to pieces. A much better response than our cunt fans sarcastically cheering George Long making a routine catch shortly after an error - doing the opposition's job for them.

Henderson is a liability at the minute but there's no sense making it any worse. I agree about the threat of relegation though, losing three quarters of your home games is not the way to stay up.

I wonder if we can trade in any of those nice BBC comments or TalkSport plaudits for any extra points come the end of the season.

Some good comments on here, and mostly in support, but I suppose the only acid test is how the players react next week at Watford. We very rarely lose two in a row, so Wilder has a good record in these situations, but this now makes this game even bigger. Win, and we are right on track, everything rosy, before another International break, but I don't want to think about losing.

But that’s Wilders point.

If Henderson and other players who make mistakes don’t bounce back...then they aren’t as good as they think they are.

It’s a way of sorting out the men from the boys.......sink or swim mentality....so Wilder can’t lose really.
It’s a tough world in football...any players that sink and can’t handle the PL will be replaced.

Ian Wright made a similar comment to mine on MOTD so I don’t I’m saying something outlandish.

Something that we know that Ian Wright might not is the self belief / arrogance that Henderson has. If you have that kind of belief then you need to back it up with near faultless displays 99% of the time.

I appreciate he's young but he's nowhere near demonstrating that level of consistency.

He's partly made a rod for his own back IMO. Let your goalkeeping do the talking for you.

He, justifiably, got praise from Wilder for saves against Chelsea and Southampton, off the top of my head, he will be man enough to accept criticism when it's due.

He’s got to accept that the wages and price reported in today’s paper Man U will want for him means he shouldn’t make mistakes like the one yesterday. I’m sure he’ll bounce back.

Wilder may have been verbal a bit harsh but was correct and well within his rights, he’s a winner with a competitive winners attitude

Our manager has over 800 games experience. He started the habit of winning things for fun about 5 years ago.

I think he lnows all about man management
He also knows all about media management in his own 'smooth' way.

Not worried about the lad going forward
He's young and will make mistakes
Hope we have a list of targets lined up for next season if he goes back to man utd

For me, CW's criticisms were fair and contructive of the errors rather than the individuals. He called it as he saw it and like he said, it was there for the whole world to see.

It is also great to see how his stance has shifted slightly and he no longer portrays us as 'a humble club', but one who have earned the right to be respected by our opponents. Every team has to earn the points they take off us to keep CW satisfied... even if they are the European Champions

They’ve all played under a lot of successful managers though and will have an insight into what works and what doesn’t.

True but I'd trust Wilder to know how to deal with a player he's had for over a year as opposed to a pundit who doesn't really know Wilder or Henderson.

In any role we've all had managers at work, good and bad, but it's frightening in my industry how many people get to management level who haven't the faintest idea about man management, as well as thinking one size fits all.

Wilder's record gives him a lot of leeway with me because he's shown differing approaches with different players and had far more success than not.

He's backing Wilders comments as oppose to pochetino cosseting lloris

All keepers make mistakes some are easy to forget if it doesn't change the outcome of the game.
Hendo had his lack of focus and dropped a howler last season which cost us points last season at home to leeds. It didn't do too much harm in the long run as we went up auto anyway.
He dropped this season's clanger yesterday. He has had his one for this season so he should be solid the rest of the way.

I love the fact that he has a winner’s mentality. However, I think he needs to be careful how he does it public. Consistently slating players to the media (I’m not saying he’s doing that, but it has been borderline in recent weeks), rarely ends well. I think the fans should be commended for how they reacted to Hendo following his mistake. I’ve no doubt that helped him refocus and save the Salah effort. Like it or not, sometimes people respond better to a cuddle rather than a rocket. The best leaders are able to understand and adapt to that.
Some players need a cuddle others need a bollockimg, it’s up to the manager to find out what each ondividual need s to achieve their best. Personally I think deano with his big personality will absolutely respond better to criticism and the questioning of his ability than a cuddle

I am in a minority who thinks his 'big clanger' at Chelsea was a foul on him rather thsn a bad mistake.

Im pretty sure he'll make more mistales this srason though and so will evety other keeper in the P.L. with one or two on over £200k a week and most are seasoned keepers and full International players.

Not sure it was a foul, but one side on camera showed the Chelsea attacker getting his toe end to the ball marginally before Deano got there, causing the ball to bounce of him, but looking like he'd spilled it.

Any professional footballer who needs a cuddle after fucking up is in the wrong job. The Liverpool fans smelled blood after Deano's gaff and gave him pelters but he didn't cave in or anything. That's got to be to his credit and thankfully he managed to pull himself together without a cuddle. I also noticed his team mates didn't rush round to console him either, they seemed nonplussed and appeared to just tell him to get on with it.

Handled well by all including the GK himself.

So an honest Sheffield bloke ( no offense ladies )
Who tells it as we all see it , we play well he says it , we don’t he says it , we miss chances , players have off days he calls it as we all see it , they thought he was harsh on his players on MOTD , I’m sure Wrighty thought that as a player
Everybody makes mistakes / errors it’s why they put rubbers on the ends of pencils
It’s how you react and learn from it that’s what makes you better and stronger , when I was playing cricket or football you knelt on the ground so if you missed it with your arms your leg stopped it
I prefer this attitude from our manager , non of this soft soap shite ,
Most of us have to work damn hard to provide for our families , we appreciate hard work and graft ,
It’s what we expect from our team ,
I bet you throughout his career Deano doesn’t make that mistake again
Well said Chris it’s what we all see and what we all want to hear
It’s a winning mentality , it’s the mark of a champion not willing to accept 2nd best neither should we

I agree with your take on Wilder's response. He doesn't make excuses for us and that's really refreshing. I think he's a great ambassador for our club and it's really good for the image of the club to have someone like him telling it how it is. It will earn the respect of other clubs and fans the world over.

Regarding Deano's error, well...it was unfortunate in so much as it was a basic error and it should be avoidable. He's still a young lad learning his trade but frankly you don't expect to see a goalkeeper going down with legs open to catch a ball. It's one of the basics of the job. Unfortunately for him he made a similar error for England not long ago. And he spilled one v Chelsea. So, he has to guard against that happening again - I'm sure he'll make other mistakes, all goalies do, but what he doesn't need is for this gathering of low balls to become a weakness for him. The rest of his game was superb. Hopefully he'll fix it. As Wilder says, if he wants to be the best of the best, he has to cut that out.

Interesting that De Gea has signed a 5 year contract now at Man Utd. So opportunities for Henderson seem limited there. He could well be on the move next summer and we should be in prime position to sign him. Although the reported fee of £20m will no doubt be judged against what we already have in house, in terms of Moore and Verrips. I think Moore is a decent keeper, but Henderson is better. As for Verrips, we don't really know much about him, apart from the rave reviews he's had in Belgium. I suspect that Verrips may emerge as a strong challenger to Henderson this season if he gets a chance to wear the shirt.

What does Ian Wright know about managing a club? The square root of F all I reckon, which is why he chooses to sit on a sofa and get very well paid for giving off the cuff opinions. To be fair to Wright, he's previously been quite complimentary of us.

I always try to read any articles on Wilder either online, on here posted by your goodselves or in magazines. What comes shining through is that his man management skills are a big part of what makes him so successful or at least more successful than most. I read that one of his former players, think it was at Oxford, said that Wilder just knows what makes players tick and he uses that to get the best out of them. Now we all know that Deano is a confident lad, sometimes maybe a tad over exuberant but you've got to have a strong personality to be a keeper. I think Wilder's comments are just a strategy on his part to get the best out of the player.

He certainly knows more and is better placed than any pundits.
