Brooks

Why so? I would start him from the word go in the championship, he's quite clearly ready.

And his experience of playing against senior professional footballers has come from where?

Remember, he almost went to a league 2 side on loan this season.

He needs to be eased into it gently, not thrown into it.

The most skillful player I've seen (who played for ours and Man Us boys sides), could skin everyone you put in front of him but as soon as he got kicked up in the air by someone older her went into hiding. I'm not saying Brooks is the same but friendlies and youth games are a totally different ballgame to Championship football.

I've rubbished more academy prospects than most. I never see what others see. But Brooks looks to be a real talent. I can see him being heavily involved next season, and us getting some very big bids for him, sadly.

I wish people were capable of grasping the context of such comparisons rather than just paying attention to the name compared to.

Brooks is indeed like Messi. He's a pure dribbler. If he gets kicked, if he gets knocked down, he'll get up and do it again in exactly the same way, totally undeterred, nothing puts him off his game. That mental toughness added such to ability is a very valuable combination.

Sometimes it's like banging your head on a brick wall. Thankfully the overwhelming majority on tonights threads get the whole Brooks thing.

It was me and no I don't need a chill pill.
I said he approaches his game the way Messi does. Not that he's as good.
Me or anyone bigging him up on here ain't gonna have jack to do with what he does or where and when he goes but it would be nice just to dream.
People need to realise that to say that one player reminds you of another is not the same as directly comparing their abilities. He genuinely does remind me of Messi with the movement, the left foot ball control and the way he glides across the pitch.

Chesterfield though Robbie, this wasn't some lower league pub team

My old man normally picks out the good ones straight away. On Kyle Walker's full debut he said "that kid has got it, he will play for England."

He was at the game tonight while I'm having to follow it on twitter from the West Country. He texted me saying "we have a very special player there" ....he's never been wrong about the best ones.

In fairness David Blunkett could've text that after tonight's cameo ;)

And just sometimes you see a player and you just know.
Rooney was what,16,17? Tore up the Prem.
It happens.
Brooks just won player of the tournament playing for ENGLAND.
Just sometimes its good to back a thoroughbred because you can see what it can do.
I will bet you any odds the kid goes right to the absolute top.
His attitude will ensure that just as much as his abundant talent.

Regarding his contract, now is the time to extend it for as long as we can.

What happens when (and it is when) he makes an impact in the Championship? His agent will instantly expect 10k p/w+.

If we offered him a 4 year contract now on 5k p/w there's a great chance he'd sign it. That's a lot of money and could set him up for life. But I don't think it's all about money for him. He wants to play. And if he's playing, he'll probably be happy to stay.

And all things considered 5k or even 10k p/w would be a no brainer of a commitment to make from our point of view. Literally the only thing that could stop us making big money from him is a serious injury - and that could happen to any player, and you can't factor that possibility in when it comes to contracts.

What do they say about the best way to overcome certain fears? Spiders for example. Chuck them in a room full of fuck off spiders, and after that the chances of batting an eyelid at your bog standard house spider are fairly slim. Short term pain, long term gain and all that.

To be fair, I know someone who was there tonight and although he didn't explicitly say it, I think it's safe to say he is indeed better than Messi.

Come back when you've learned how to read what people actually post.

The players he will play against next year aren't necessarily going to be bigger, stronger and faster than the ones he's played against already. They will however be better.
He's already big enough and he's already old enough to make the step up, we just need to see if he's as good as we hope.

That's the similarities I draw from him too. He's a similar type of player to him and Silva how he glides along the pitch.
Very similar dribbling style and a lot of his tricks and touches are very Draxler-esque. He also has that urgency and positivity in his play that once he beats his man he immediately looks to bring others into it. No flash fannying about, keep the move going. Very impressive for his age.

If you good enough you're old enough......

......Gerrimsold!!!

DCL just scored the winner in the World Cup for ENGLAND. Would you have played him last season in League 1?

Brooks was impressive in Toulon but it was a tournament made up of second string U-20 players. Bit of a different situation.

I hope he's amazing for us. It would be great if he starts and tears the league a new one. I really doubt it though. I'm just trying to put a few good performances into some kind of perspective.

A center midfield of Coutts, Fleck and Brookes is looking very very tasty :p

I'd love Brookes to start at Rovrum and have a full 90 mins against a team that is better than Chessie.

One of his biggest strengths is dribbling at pace. He might not be lightning quick but he can dribble at full speed, and the ball sticks to his feet. That's extremely hard to defend against. Imagine when he gets a bit more powerful?

The Draxler comparison is another good one. Similar directness and elegance.

We have other attacking midfielders with good ability but with that direct threat, he offers something none of them have.

I'd also point out that against Malaga he got on the ball more than Carruthers did in the first half of that game. He did it again tonight, he seems to have a knack of getting on the ball a lot, like Duffy does. Very comfortable playing anywhere across the pitch.

In style, he's a natural for that 10 position in our current system. I'd play him from the right initially but if he's good and consistent enough he could end up playing the sole central attacking role before we know it.

That's my Brooks eulogising done for tonight anyway. Be back on Friday.

He was an absolute revelation off the bench again tonight. He plays with no fear and has the opposition running scared on the back foot. Yes it's early days but there is little doubt the lad has more potential than any other since Kyle. It's doesn't take a genius to work it out. For once though we need to make sure he's tied down contract wise, resist any bid that isn't ridiculously stupid and gradually introduce him this season. It's hard trying to contain your excitement when you watch him play though. It's possible we may have a real gem on our hands. Let's keep it that way.

It was a cracking goal whatever anyone thinks about if he is good enough, maybe he is maybe he isn't, not seen enough of him to make a judgement, what I did see was a young un run through the Chessie defence and bang it in the net. If that is owt to go on we have a player here.

Totally agree but just to add he doesn't just dribble into a dead end. He can look up, pick a pass, take the shot and make space for others. A rarity in someone so young

When's Pinchy going to come along and bring this thread down like a lead balloon?

Calm down chaps, he's still very young and the last thing we need to do is start heaping expectation on him. He's going to need time to come through and develop an all-round game.

I was saying the same thing only last week... however after watching his last two cameos I think he's the real deal. Looked head and shoulders above anything on the pitch.

Not saying he's ready to start and play 45+ games this year but he looks like he's going to be a pretty special player.

Difference being DCL never looked ready. Never. You can already see that Brooks can add something to any game he might be involved in.
