Onwards and upwards to next week. What pubs are people frequenting next Saturday before and after the game?
Also, not knowing Bristol in the slightest - is Ashton Gate walkable from the Ibis central?

Last year we went in "The Robins", which isn't far from the away end. Though it's supposed to be home only. Possibly end up there again on Saturday, depends if we'll get away with drinking there again... it's not an easy accent to fit in with undetected :D

Can't remember where we've been before that.

There aren't many "near" to the ground to be honest and they don't serve alcohol inside.

As for the Ibis, I've no idea where it is, we've always driven and parked just down the road from the ground.

IBIS I think is central near renovated docks/riverside where there are plenty of places for drinking and only a short walk from Clifton where there are many more pubs which would be expected in a Student area. Sadly its about 40mins walk from Ashton Gate and the public transport is piss poor.

the pumphouse and the nova scotia at the far end of the floating harbour seem to be recommended away pubs these days, map here. to be honest though I'm thinking about staying in the city centre then getting a taxi out near the ground or walking it.

We stopped in Bath 2 years ago and got the train to Bristol. (live game, played shit, lost 2-0) As mentioned before its a 40 min walk from station with only one shit pub inbetween.

Just as a warning to anyone driving down, they've double-yellowed all over Winterstoke Road which is the main road next to the ground and used to be popular for parking (and even double yellowed the footpaths for some strange reason). Additionally, don't park in the retail park car park next door to the ground (with PC World, KFC etc.) as I've just been given a £75 fine for being in there longer than 90 minutes (I wasn't by the way).

Balls! cheers for the heads up, any idea if it's also on the main road where it filters off left and under the road? Usually park on here just past the traffic lights next to Ashton Vale Road.

That's precisely the bit they've double-yellowed. I work on Ashton Vale Road and someone went a bit crazy and double-yellowed every bit of tarmac visible a month ago.

Shite :(

I take it this carries on up past KFC and towards the pub/shops up the other end of the road?

Any suggestions on alternative parking?

I think it does although I'll check on the way home tonight. I'll ask around the office to see if the locals have got any idea on parking, although I think the other side of the ground which has several small residential roads should be okay.

Nice one, thanks!

North Street in Bedminster is a decent spot for pre-match food and drink. Take your pick from the Spotted Cow, Hen & Chickens, Tobacco Factory and Cafe Ceiturica (who serve a nice brekkie). Avoid the BS3 bar which is a local bar for local people who appear to be prepared to maintain that status at all costs. My mate also picked up some of the nicest custard slices i've ever tasted from a bakery en route to the ground.

I forgot to mention, it's only 10 minutes or so from the away end.

The Pump House is only a minute away from me  It is a nice place, not loads of seating though and I'm not sure how they'd react to being invaded by footie fans. I'll have a wander down to the ground though and scout back on what pubs look any good.
Bloomin' can't wait for this game.

Do you have a parking space surrounded by big angry dogs available? with access straight into a public house? :D

The Spotted Cow serves a decent pint and there is usually good music on.

We'll be in there before and after the game - and will park round the back streets.

Also, a superb fish place has opened - Fishminster - which I can recommend.

IBIS I think is just across the river from Temple Meads. If so - 30-ish minutes walk (40 mins sounds about right). There are decent pubs in Southville/Bedminster - just avoid the ones right by the ground, if in colours.

Directions for walking from the station are as follows from someone I work with who walks it a fair bit ...

I would cut through Redcliffe opposite the station and then get on to Coronation Road. When you get to the tannery on Coronation Road you fork off left and will be able to see the Mecca!!! About 2 miles that should take 30 mins.

Not quite Mecca, but hey - it's Brizzle so different standards :D

maybe north street or thereabouts is a good spot for both drinks and parking then if people are meeting up?

I'm easy (so they say)... what time are you due in Bristol dw?

Foxy is driving and it usually takes us around 3 hours (apart from when it bloody snowed around Birmingham last time) so we can aim to get there around the same time.

I hope some of the southern-based Blades will come and make themselves known :)

I'm due in before 12 so can be over towards the ground/ north street from about 12.30 onwards - if you're going to be later than that I can do a quick round of record shops in town to entertain myself and fill the time, so I TOO am pretty easy.

I think we usually set off around half 8/nine o'clock so should be there by twelve.

My number is the same anyway so drop me a text when you're around :)

If anyone else wants me number to come and say hello, PM me.

nice one. I'll be the suave looking mutha approaching from the north side of the river - keep an eye out. will text you when i get in to brizzle and see where you're at.

Thanks Bessie and Derrywan. I'll be there on Saturday with BladeinThatcham. More than happy to meet some Unitedites for a few shandies before kick off. The North street area sounds good. Reckon we should be getting there around 12.30.

We're staying around in Bristol for the evening, 'so draw, win or lose .... there'll be plenty of booze' ;)

I had a little walk round the ground today, the nearest look like the BS3 Bar and the Coopers Arms, though I don't know what these are like so I'd take Dessie's and avoid the BS3. The one I went in before the match last year was the Tobacco Factory which was pretty decent and had a mix of home and away fans, about 5 mins walk away.
If anyone was planning on going to the Pump House that's about a 15/20 minute walk to the ground, not the most straightforward route though.

linz/ foxy and whoever else, I'll probably head first for the tobacco factory as it's the first place I'll hit walking from town in that area. if you end up parked further down the road nearer spotted cow or somewhere else just give me a text or send a pigeon and I'll come meet youse.

ollesandro if you want to catch up with us, drop me a pm and i'll send you my mobile no.

I shall also hopefully be in the tobacco factory prior to the game. Not sure what time though, as I should be in Bristol town centre for about 12:00 and then walking towards the ground with pub stops on the way.

For those of you looking for parking, I parked on Smyth Road last year, which is only two minutes from the ground and fairly easy to get away from.

Blade in Thatcham and I are staying in the Ibis Central hotel. I've printed a map out with directions from there to the Tabacco Factory. We're aiming to be in Bristol before middday, so after the walk we'll probably be at the pub for about 12.30 (ish).

Look forward to seeing you all then :)

Plan for a few Brizzle Blades and a couple of Dublin Blades over for the day is 1.15ish in the Rose Of Denmark, a fairly functional pub 10 minutes walk from the ground.

Before that we'll be in The Hope And Anchor, an excellent real ale boozer on Jacobs Wells Road that also does superb food. It's about a 15 minute stroll to The Rose from there.

Cheers

Well we ended up in the Tobacco Factory...

Good to see Derrywan again as always, but we also met Ollessendro, Blade in Thatcham and Bath Blade. Good to meet you all!
